High Resolution Analysis for Defective Pixels Detection using a Low Resolution Camera

  • A system for high-resolution analysis of defective elementary cell (R, G or B) on Flat Panel Display (FPD) is described. Based on multiple acquisitions of low-resolution shifted images of the display, our system doesn't require a high-resolution sensor neither tedious alignment of the display, and will remain up to date even facing an important increase of the display dimensions. Our process, highly automated and thus flexible and robust, is expected to perform a full analysis in less than 60s. It is mainly intended for production tests and display classification by manufacturers.

  • Fatigue cracks in structural components are the most common cause of structural failure when exposed to fatigue loading. In this respect, fatigue crack detection and structural health assessment are very important. Currently, various smart materials are used for detecting fatigue crack and measurement of SIFs(Stress Intensity Factors). So, this paper presented a measurement of SIFs using MFC(Micro Fiber Composite) sensor which is the one of the smart material. MFC sensor is more flexible, durable and reliable than other smart materials. The SIFs of Mode I(K I) as well as Mode II(K II) based on the piezoelectric constitutive law and fracture mechanics are calculated. In this study, the SIF values measured by MFC sensors are compared with the theoretical results.

유비쿼터스 인터페이스 기술에 대한 고찰 (A Study on the Ubiquitous Interface Technologies)

  • This article introduces developing trends of an 'Ubiquitous Interface' as an access method for use of various network resources, such as public wireless networks and un-licensed wireless networks in ubiquitous sensor network environments, without troublesome settings or operations by users. 'Ubiquitous Interface' is a relatively wide sense meaning not only physical interface of specified device or between processors, but anything method for access USN. These 'Ubiquitous Interface' able to provide seamless services that adapt autonomously to the user's movements and changes in the state of wireless resources. Recently, strongly recommended current technologies are RFID, NFC, Multi-mode mobile terminal, UMA mobile terminal and Wearable computer as a future ubiquitous interface. These technologies are have to have flexibility and multiple physical communication channels for seamless service hand over and serve easy connection at huge USN to user. Also, they have to must have flexible software structure. Finally, through the 'Ubiquitous Interface', we will be experience of seamless communication and realize a real liberty of communication.

카본나노튜브 스트레인 센서 제작 기술 (Fabrication of Carbon Nanotube Strain Sensors)

  • In this study, the strain sensing characteristics of single-wall carbon nanotubes(SWCNTs) networks were investigated to develop a film sensor for strain sensing. The SWCNTs film are formed on flexible substrates of poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) using spray process. In this manner we could control the transparency and obtain excellent uniformity of the networked SWCNT film. The carbon nanotube film is isotropic due to randomly oriented bundles of SWCNTs. Using experimental results it is shown that there is a nearly linear change in resistance across the film when it is subjected to tensile stress. The results presented in this study indicate the potential of such films for high sensitive transparent strain sensors on macro scale.

  • This paper is concerned with the theoretical and experimental study on the force control of a miniature robotic finger that grasps an object at three other positions with the fingertip. The artificial finger is a uniform flexible cantilever beam equipped with a distributed set of compact grasping force sensors. Control action is applied by a piezoceramic bimorph strip placed at the base of the finger. The mathematical model of the assembled electro- mechanical system is developed. The distributed sensors are described by a set of concentrated mass-spring system. The formulated equations of motion are then applied to a control problem in which the finger is commanded to grasp an object. The H$_{\infty}$-controller is introduced to drive the finger. The usefulness of the proposed control technique is verified by simulation and experiment..

  • ZigBee technology that is observed to radio network of low electric power with latest WPAN's IEEE 802.15 .4 technologies is evaluated as best technology for sensor network and digital home network construction. This need exclusive use application for monitoring, managing, controlling and organizing this nodes. However, these program has weaknesses that is hard to construct flexible system with Internet. This paper will use web server linked with gateway to manage sensor network that is consisted of ZigBee node and design system that manages ZigBee device with relative fast responsibility using AJAX web technology.

  • In this paper we presented experimental results of a gas sensor utilizing multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWNT)composites for the alcohol detection which is useful to checking drinking and driving, for example. The MWNT-composites were deposited using spray method on PES substrates suitable for use in low-cost and flexible sensors. We observed the variation of conductance from the sensors exposed to alcohol vapors evaporated at 37C equal to the human body temperature to match real condition. As the result, the conductance was decreased with the increase of ethanol vol% diluted in water. The sensors showed good sensitivity and linearity.

Self-activated Graphene Gas Sensors: A Mini Review

  • Graphene has been widely considered a promising candidate for high-quality chemical sensors, owing to its outstanding characteristics, such as sensitive gas adsorption at room temperature, high conductivity, high flexibility, and high transparency. However, the main drawback of a graphene-based gas sensor is the necessity for external heaters due to its slow response, incomplete recovery, and low selectivity at room temperature. Conventional heating devices have limitations such as large volume, thermal safety issues, and high power consumption. Moreover, metal-based heating systems cannot be applied to transparent and flexible devices. Thus, to solve this problem, a method of supplying the thermal energy necessary for gas sensing via the self-heating of graphene by utilizing its high carrier mobility has been studied. Herein, we provide a brief review of recent studies on self-activated graphene-based gas sensors. This review also describes various strategies for the self-activation of graphene sensors and the enhancement of their sensing properties.

Nanofinger Sensors for Health-related Applications

  • Surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) has long been projected as a powerful analytical technique for chemical and biological sensing applications. Pairing with portable Raman spectrometers makes the technique extremely appealing as real-time sensors for field application. However, the lack of reliable, uniform, low cost and ease-of-use SERS enhancement structures has prevented the wide adoption of this technique for general applications. We have discovered a novel hybrid structure based on the high-density and uniform arrays of gold nanofingers over a large surface area for SERS applications. The nanofingers are flexible and their tips can be brought together to trap molecules to mimic the biological system. We report here a rapid, simple, low-cost, and sensitive method of detecting trace level of food contaminants by using nanofinger chips based on portable SERS technique. We also present here the characterization of surface reaction of target molecules with our gold nanofinger substrates and the effect of nanofinger closing towards SERS performance. This new type of nano-structures can potentially revolutionize the medical and biologic research by providing a novel way to capture, localize, manipulate, and interrogate biological molecules with unprecedented capabilities.

  • A robust intelligent algorithm for AGV navigation control is presented here based on both magnetic and gyro sensors to track a reference trajectory. Since the proposed system uses an intermittent array of short magnetic tape strips, it lends itself to a very easy installation and maintenance compared to other types of positioning references such as electric wire, magnets, RF and laser beacons. The neural network is to predict the lateral deviation of the AGV in the intervals where no magnetic tape references are available. Further, the use of intelligent control ensures a robust and flexible control performance. Computer simulation of AGV control demonstrates its adequate tracking performances even where the sensor information is not available. Real experiments using Samsung AGV are also on the way for real verification
