Cadmium sulfide (CdS) thin film for flexible optical device applications were prepared at $H_2(Ar+H_2)$ flow ratios on polyethersulfon(PES) flexible polymer substrates at room temperature by radio frequency magnetron sputtering technique. The CdS thin films deposited at room temperature showed a (002) preferred orientation and the smooth surface morphologies. Films deposited at a hydrogen flow ratio of 25% exhibited a photo- and dark-sheet resistance of about 50 and $2.7{\times}10^5{\Omega}$/square, respectively. From the result of the bending test, CdS films exhibit a strong adhesion with the PES polymer substrates and the $Al_2O_3$ passivation layer deposited on the CdS films only shows an increase of the resistance of 8.4% after exposure for 120 h in air atmosphere.
PURPOSES : This paper, presents the results of a laboratory study aimed to verify the suitability of a particular type of Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) steel slag to be recycled in the lithic skeleton of both dense graded and porous asphalt mixtures for flexible pavements. METHODS : Cyclic creep and stiffness modulus tests were performed to evaluate the mechanical performance of three different asphalt mixtures (dense graded, porous asphalt, and stone mastic) prepared with two types of EAF steel slag. For comparison purposes, the same three mixtures were also designed with conventional aggregates (basalt and limestone). RESULTS : All the asphalt mixtures prepared with EAF steel slag satisfied the current requirements of the European standards, which support EAF steel slag as a suitable material for flexible pavement construction. CONCLUSIONS : Based on the experimental work, the use of waste material obtained from steel production (e.g. EAF steel slag) as an alternative in the lithic skeleton of asphalt mixtures can be a satisfactory and reasonable choice that fulfills the "Zero Waste" objective that many iron and steel industries have pursued in the past decades.
This article introduces the characterization of spin coated ZnO transparent conducting oxide on the flexible substrates. As a II-IV compound semiconductor, ZnO has a wide band gap of 3.37 eV with transparent properties. Due to this transparent properties, ZnO materials can be also employed as the transparent conducting electrode materials. Therefore, strong demands have been required for the transparent electrodes with low temperature processing and cheap cost. So, We will investigate the electrical property and optical transmittance of ZnO transparent conducting oxide through the 4-point probe resistivity meter, and ultraviolet-vis spectrometer Lamda 35, respectively.
Silicon nitride thin film deposited with Plasma Enhanced Chemical Vapor Deposition was treated by a nitrogen plasma generated by Inductively Coupled Plasma at room temperature. The treatment was investigated by Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy and Atomic Force Microscopy on the surface at various RF source powers at two RF bias powers. The amount of hydrogen was reduced and the surface roughness of the films was decreased remarkably after the plasma treatment. In order to understand the causes, we analyzed the plasma diagnostics by Optical Emission Spectroscopy and Double Langmuir Probe. Based on these analysis results, we show that the nitrogen plasma treatment was effective in the improving of the properties silicon nitride thin film for flexible display.
In this paper, we investigated the position-dependent stress distribution of indium-tin-oxide (ITO) film on Polycarbonate (PC) substrate by external bending force. It was found that there are the maximum crack density at the center position and decreasing crack density as goes to the edge. In accordance with crack distribution, it was observed that the change of electrical resistivity of ITO islands is maximum at the center and decrease as goes to the edge. From the result that crack density is increasing at same island position as face-plate distance (L) decreases, it is evident that the more stress is imposed on same island position as L decreases.
A hybrid passivation method using parylene and silicon dioxide combination layer for a flexible organic light emitting diode (FOLED) was applied on a polycarbonate substrate. A parylene coating by vapor polymerization method is a highly effective passivation process for the FOLED, and it applies all top surface and the edges of the FOLED device. In order to minimize the permeation of moisture and oxygen from the top surface of the device, an additional layer of silicon dioxide was deposited over the parylene coated layer. It was found that the water vapor transmittance rate (WVTR) of parylene (15 m-in-thickness) / SiO2 (0.3$\mu$m-in-thickness) combination layers deposited on polycarbonate film was decreased under the value of 10-3 g/m2day. The FOLED with the hybrid passivation showed remarkably longer lifetime characteristics in the ambient conditions than the non-passivated FOLED. The lifetime of the passivated FOLED was 400 hours and it was more than ten times over the lifetime of the convectional non-passivated FOLED.
IZO/Al multilayer anode films for flexible top emitting organic light emitting diodes (TOLEDs) were grown on PEN (polyethylen-enaphthelate) substrate using twin target sputter (TTS) system. To investigate electrical and optical properties of IZO/Al multilayer films, 4-point probe method and UV/Vis spectrometer were used, respectively. From a IZO/Al multilayer films with 100nm-thick Al, sheet resistance of $1.4{\Omega}/{\square}$ and reflectance of above 62% at a range of 500~550nm wavelength could be obtained, In addition, structural and surface properties of IZO/Al multilayer films were analyzed by XRD (X-ray diffraction) and FESEM (field emission scanning electron microscopy) and AES (auger electron spectroscope), respectively. Moreover, flexibility of IZO/Al multilayer anode films were examined by bending test method.
The development of next generation displays such as flexible display is a major challenge. Most materials and processes in current flat panel display industry cannot be transferred to flexible substrates. Typically, indium tin oxide (ITO) thin films are brittle and need to be deposited at high temperature to achieve an optimal opto-electrical property, therefore ITO films cannot be used as a flexible electrode. Up to date, many alternative materials to ITO have been proposed such as conductive polymers, nanometals, solution deposited transparent conductive oxide(TCO) and carbon nanotubes(CNTs). CNT based transparent conductive films are fabricated on glass and polymer substrates. CNT thin films exhibit a sheet resistance ($R_s$) of nearby $10^3\;{\Omega}/sq$ with a transmittance of around 80% on the visible light range, which is attributed by excellent dispersion and interaction among CNTs, solvents and polymeric binders. This talk will present the current studies, opto-electrical properties, design criteria and its applications for CNT-based transparent conductive films.
We report on plasma damage free chemical vapor deposition technique for the thin film passivation of organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs), organic thin film transistor (OTFT) and flexible displays using catalyzer enhanced chemical vapor deposition (CECVD). Specially designed CECVD system has a ladder-shaped tungsten catalyzer and movable electrostatic chuck for low temperature deposition process. The top emitting OLED with thin film $SiN_x$ passivation layer shows electrical and optical characteristics comparable to those of the OLED with glass encapsulation. This indicates that the CECVD technique is a promising candidate to grow high-quality thin film passivation layer on OLED, OTFT, and flexible displays.
The preparation and characteristics of ITO anode films grown using a linear facing target sputtering (FTS) technique for use in organic light emitting diodes (OLED) and flexible OLED is described. The electrical, optical, and work function of the ITO anode, which was prepared by linear FTS at room temperature, were comparable to those of commercial ITO anode films. In particular, linear FTS-grown ITO films shows very smooth surface without defects such as pin hole and cracks due to low substrate temperature. Furthermore OLED with the linear FTS-grown ITO anode film shows comparable electrical and optical properties to those of OLED with the commercial crystalline-ITO anode film. This suggested that linear FTS is promising thin film technology for preparing high quality anode film in OLEDs and flexible OLEDs.
