Background: Labeled noise reduction (NR) data presented by manufacturers are considered one of the main challenging issues for occupational experts in employing hearing protection devices (HPDs). This study aimed to determine the actual NR data of typical HPDs using the objective fit testing method with a microphone in real ear (MIRE) method. Methods: Five available commercially earmuff protectors were investigated in 30 workers exposed to reference noise source according to the standard method, ISO 11904-1. Personal attenuation rating (PAR) of the earmuffs was measured based on the MIRE method using a noise dosimeter (SVANTEK, model SV102). Results: The results showed that means of PAR of the earmuffs are from 49% to 86% of the nominal NR rating. The PAR values of earmuffs when a typical eyewear was worn differed statistically (p < 0.05). It is revealed that a typical safety eyewear can reduce the mean of the PAR value by approximately 2.5 dB. The results also showed that measurements based on the MIRE method resulted in low variability. The variability in NR values between individuals, within individuals, and within earmuffs was not the statistically significant (p > 0.05). Conclusion: This study could provide local individual fit data. Ergonomic aspects of the earmuffs and different levels of users experience and awareness can be considered the main factors affecting individual fitting compared with the laboratory condition for acquiring the labeled NR data. Based on the obtained fit testing results, the field application of MIRE can be employed for complementary studies in real workstations while workers perform their regular work duties.
Background: Respirator fit testing is a method to assess if the respirator provides an adequate face seal for the worker. Methods: Workers from four Norwegian smelters were invited to participate in the study, and 701 respirator fit tests were performed on 127 workers. Fourteen respirator models were included: one FFABE1P3 and 11 FFP3 respirator models produced in one size and two silicone half masks with P3 filters available in three sizes. The workers performed a quantitative fit test according to Health and Safety Executive 282/28 with 5-6 different respirator models, and they rated the respirators based on comfort. Predictors of overall fit factors were explored. Results: The pass rate for all fit tests was 62%, 56% for women, and 63% for men. The silicone respirators had the highest percentage of passed tests (92-100%). The pass rate for the FFP3 models varied from 19-89%, whereas the FFABE1P3 respirator had a pass rate of 36%. Five workers did not pass with any respirators, and 14 passed with all the respirators tested. Only 63% passed the test with the respirator they normally used. The mean comfort score on the scale from 1 to 5 was 3.2. The respirator model was the strongest predictor of the overall fit factor. The other predictors (age, sex, and comfort score) did not improve the fit of the model. Conclusion: There were large differences in how well the different respirator models fitted the Norwegian smelter workers. The results can be useful when choosing which respirators to include in respirator fit testing programs in similar populations.

Lifetesting problems have been the subject of investigations for over three decades. Most suggested approaches are markedly different from those used in the related but wider goodness of fit problems. In the current investigation, it is demonstrated that a goodness of fit approach is possible in many lifetesting problems and that It results in simpler procedures that are asymptotically equivalent or better than standard ones. They may also have superior finite sample behavior. Several perennial classes are addressed here. The class of increasing failure rate (IFR) and the class of new better than used (NBU) are addressed first. In addition, we provide testing for a newer and practical class of new better than used in convex ordering (NBUC) due to Cao and Wang (1991). Other classes can be developed similarly and this point is illustrated with the classes of new better than used in expectation (NBUE) and harmonic new better than used in expectation (HNBUE).

The objective of this study is to investigate the problem of goodness of fit testing based on nonparametric function estimation techniques for the random censorship model. The small and large sample properties of the proposed test, $E_{mn}$, were investigated and it is shown that under the proportional hazard model $E_{mn}$ has higher power compared to the powers of the Kolmogorov -Smirnov, Kuiper, Cramer-von Mises, and analogue of the Cramer-von Mises type test statistic.
In this paper we propose a goodness-of-fit test statistic for testing the (null) parametric model versus the (alternative) nonparametric model. Most of existing nonparametric test statistics are based on the residuals which are obtained by regressing the data to a parametric model. Our test is based on the bootstrap estimator of the probability that the smoothing parameter estimator is infinite when fitting residuals to cubic smoothing spline. Power performance of this test is investigated and is compared with many other tests. Illustrative examples based on real data sets are given.

In this paper we propose a nonparametric lack of fit test based on the bootstrap method for testing the null parametric linear model by using linear smoothers. Most of existing nonparametric test statistics are based on the residuals. Our test is based on the centered bootstrap residuals. Power performance of proposed bootstrap lack of fit test is investigated via Monte carlo simulation.
This study was designed to develop and test a structural model for maternal adaptation and family stress in families with mentally handicapped children. A hypothetical model was constructed on the basis of the family stress theory developed by McCubbin etc. The model included 6 theoretical concepts and 11 paths. For the purpose of the model testing, empirical data were collected from May to August, 1992. The subjects of the study constituted 190 mothers of children in five special schools and one private institute in Seoul and Choong Nam. An SPSS PC+ and PC-LISREL 7.13 computer programs were used for descriptive and covariance structure analysis. The results of the study were as follows. (1) The hypothetical model showed itself a good fit to the empirical data [Chi - square=18.35(df=7, P=0.005), Goodness of Fit Index=0.991, Adjusted Goodness of Fit Index=0.959, Root Mean Square Residual=0.042), Non Normed Fit Index=0.90, Normed Fit Index=0.96]. (2) The results of Hypothesis testing indicated : 1) Social support(${\gamma}$$_{11}$=.238, T=2.352), Family functioning(${\gamma}$$_{12}$=.729, T=5.957) and Family life event stress(${\gamma}$$_{13}$=.125) had direct effects on situational definition. 2) Life event stress(${\gamma}$$_{23}$=.319, T=3.872) had direct effects on the effect of the handicapped child on the family. Family functioning(${\gamma}$$_{22}$=-.245) and situational definition($\beta$$_{21}$=-.335, T=3.227) had direct effects on the effect of the handicapped child on the family. 3) Situational definition($\beta$$_{31}$=-.273, T=3.493), family life event stress (${\gamma}$$_{33}$=.124, T=2.169) and the effect of the handicapped child on the family($\beta$$_{32}$=.264, T=-3.227) showed the direct effect on the maternal adaptation. The model was supported by the empirical data. Thus it was suggested that the model could be applied to family nursing care with the families with the mentally handicapped. The construction and testing of the comprehensive model seem to be the first trial in Korea.a.a.a.
This study was designed to develop and lest a structural model for paternal adaplation and family stress in the families with the handicapped children. A hypothetical model was constructed on the basis of family stress theory developed by McCubbin etc. The model included 6 theoretical concepts and 11 paths. For the purpose of the model testing, empirical data were collected from May to August, 1992. The subject of the study constituted 190 mothers whose children admitted in the five special schools and one privale institutes in Seoul and Choong Nam. In data analysis, SPSS PC+ and PC-LISREL 7.13 computer program were utilized for descriptive and covariance structure analysis. The results of lhe study were as follows. (1) Hypothetical model showed a good fit to the empirical data [Chi-square = 21.19 (df = 7, P = o. 003), Goodness of Fit Index=O.986, Adjusted Goodness of Fit Indes=0.946, Root Mean Square lesidual=0.048), Non Normed Fit Index = 0.80, Normed Fit Index=0.91]. (2) The results of Hypothesis testing indicated: 1) Social support(${\gamma}_11=.238$, T=2.352), Family Functioning(${\gamma}_12=.729$, T=5.957) had direct effects on situational definition. 2) life event stress(${\gamma}_23=.284$, T=5.220) had direct effects on the effect of the handicapped chid on the family. 3) Family functioning(${\gamma}_32=-.239$, T= -3.370) had direct effects on paternal adapation. From the above results, the significance of this study can be delineated as follows : The construction and testing of the comprehensive model seem to be the first trial in Korea. The model was supported by empirical dala. Thus it was suggested that model could be adequately applied to framily nusing care with the handicapped.
The NDT(Non-Destructive Testing) is valid for the defect detection of rolling stocks because it can be used to detect the defect in many invisible parts. For example, fatigue cracks are initiated in press fit parts that suffer from fretting fatigue damage such as the wheel seat and the NDT technique can detect those cracks. But the conventional ICFPD method can not apply to detect such cracks in press fit parts of the axle by some technical problems. In this study, we have introduced the new concept ICFPD method that can be applied in press fit parts of the axle. And we have shown the basic techniques of FEM about the new concept ICFPD method.
Accurate fit of the implant prosthesis is important in ensuring long term success of osseointegrated implant. Inaccurate fit of the implant prosthesis may give rise to complications and mechanical failure. To evaluate fite of the implant prosthesis, the development of the methods of analyzing the degree of misfit is important in clinical practice. To analyze the degree of the misfit of implant prosthesis, modal testing was used. A 2-dimensional finite element modal testing was accomplished. Four 2-dimensional finite element models with various levels of misfit of implant prostheses were constructed. Thickness gauges were simulated to make misfit in the implant prostheses. With eigenvalue analysis, the natural frequencies of the models were found in the frequency domain representation of vibration. According to the difference of degree of misfit, natural frequencies of the models were changed.
