Experimental Study on the Fire Behavior in Double Deck Tunnel (복층터널내 화재특성에 대한 실험적 연구)

  • In the wake of expanding and overpopulating urban areas, traffic congestion has been worsening increasingly, causing huge economic losses. In a bid to effectively use the space of metropolitan areas, the construction and operation of a double deck tunnel has been on the rise. On the other hand, a lower height of a double deck tunnel is expected to generate more smoke and soot in a fire than other usual tunnels. Therefore, it is undesirable to apply the standard for fire intensity or smoke generation, which were designed for existing road tunnels. A part of an effort to propose a design fire curve that is useful for double deck tunnel, is intended to obtain and analyze the fire characteristics in a double deck tunnel through a real scale fire test. The test was conducted according to the fire scenario with one passenger car and two passenger cars; the monitored fire intensity was a maximum of 2.4 MW and 3.5 MW, respectively.

  • A gun is still one of the major weapons of a combat ship. To assess the ship's fire control capability which is influenced by tracking system, fire control algorithm, gun, the ship itself, target behavior, environment and engagement situation, simulation system for gun-oriented engagement for surface ship is needed. This paper proposes the process for designing and implementing a gun-oriented engagement simulation system using DEVS(Discrete Event Simulation Specification), which is a formalism based on the set theory. It consists of the following activities : 1) analyzing the characteristics of a gun-oriented engagement, 2) constructing the deterministic model of the combat ship of study with DEVS, 3) modeling properties of each entity showing as stochastic errors. With this process, the gun-oriented engagement simulation system is developed and applied for the combat system under development.

  • Three-dimensional thermal and mechanical coupled finite element models are proposed to study the structural behaviours of shear connectors under fire. Concrete slabs, steel beams and shear connectors are modelled with eight-noded solid elements, and profiled steel deckings are modelled with eight-noded shell elements. Thermal, mechanical and geometrical nonlinearities are incorporated into the models. With the proper incorporation of thermal and mechanical contacts among steel beams, shear connectors, steel deckings and concrete slabs, both of the models are verified to be accurate after the validation against a series of push-out tests in the room temperature or under the standard fire. Various thermal and mechanical responses are also extracted and observed in details from the results of the numerical analyses, which gives a better understanding of the structural behavior of shear connectors under elevated temperatures.

  • Repair and rehabilitation of existing structures is becoming a major part of construction, both in the industrially developed and developing countries. Advanced high strength composites are being utilized more and more for these applications because they are much stronger than steel, non-corrosive, and light. The light weight reduces the construction cost and time sustantially. The fibers are normally made of aramid, carbon, or glass and the binders are typically epoxies or esters. One major disadvantage of these composites is the vulnerability to fire. In most instance, the temperature cannot exceed $300^{\cire}C$. Since carbon and glass can substain high temperatures, an inorganic polymer is being evaluated for use as a matrix. The matrix can sustain more than $1000^{\cire}C$. The results reported in this paper deal with the mechanical properties of carbon composites made with the inorganic polymer and the behavior strengthened reinforced concrete beams. The results indicate that the new matrix can be successfully utilized for a number of applications.

  • Forest Fire can cause a serious damage to overhead conductors. Therefore, the detailed investigation for the changes of mechanical and electrical properties of damaged conductors should be carried out to understand the effect of forest fires on conductors. This is very much important to maintain transmission line safely. Especially, this paper describes the changes of mechanical and electrical properties of conductor due to forest fire and agents. The detailed will be given in the text.

  • In this paper, numerical simulation are conducted to predict the characteristics of the heat transfer and smoke flow and evacuation in the road tunnel. Fire source are used about 30 MW and the turbulent flow characteristics are considered by standard k-epsilon turbulent model. The effect of transient thermal behavior and disaster prevention can be used for designing the road tunnel.

  • 워터스크린(이하 W/S)에 의한 화재방화시스템은 도로터널에 화재가 발생시, 공간에 수막을 사용하여 구획화하고, 열 연기의 확산을 억제하며 유해 부유입자를 세정함으로서 인간의 안전을 확보 및 구조물의 피해를 극소화 하는 시스템이다. 이 W/S에 의한 구획의 성능을 평가하기 위해, 1/2의 터널 모형에 의한 공간 내 열 성장 파악을 위한 화재 실험을 분석하였고, 그 결과, 천정 근방 온도 및 방사수열량으로서는 발열 속도의 크기, 풍속의 대소에 의하지 않고 약 80%의 저감율을 나타냈다. 또, 발생한 유해 부유입자 농도에 대해서는 약 60%, 화원 성질과 상태로서 발열 속도는 약30%의 W/S에 의한 저감 효과를 나타내었다.

  • 최근 고시원은 저렴한 방값을 원하는 저소득층의 서민들이 주거하는 공간으로서 불특정 다수가 사용하므로 방화의 위험성을 안고 있다. 본 조사는 이 위험성을 검토하기 위해 SIMULEX 실험을 통하여 고시원 화재시 피난행동을 간접적으로 확인 하고 대비 하는데 도움이 되고자한다. 모형실험 결과 재실자들이 1층 출구 대피시 병목현상을 보였지만 연기의 유동은 위로 상승하기 때문에 3층 재실자들의 빠른 대피가 있다면 인명피해는 없을 것으로 판단된다. 만약 이번 실험 조건이 사람들의 인지능력이 떨어지는 시간 조건을 주고 대피시간이 늦는다면 4, 5층의 재실자는 연기의 빠른 확산으로 인해 많은 인명피해가 발생할 수도 있을 것으로 판단된다.

  • 본 연구는 Zone Model을 활용하여 장대도로터널의 화재성상 예측방법의 고찰을 목적으로 1/5 Scale 모형실험 및 MLZSUZUKI 결과 분석과 CFD와 MLZ의 비교 분석을 실시하였다. Modeling한 모형터널의 해석시간이 MLZ 1분, FDS 약 6시간으로 CFD에 비하여 360배의 시간 감소와 다층으로 구분하여 구간의 온도변화 및 환기풍에 의한 열기류의 움직임 등의 상황이 해석됨으로 향후 MLZ을 활용하여 터널화재의 위험성 예측에 용이할 것으로 판단된다.
