We fabricated the silicon nanodots using the low pressure chemical vapor deposition technique to investigate their electron field emission characteristics. Atomic force microscope measurements performed for the silicon nanodot samples having various process parameters, such as, deposition time and deposition pressure, revealed that the silicon nanodots with an average size of 20 nm, height of 5 nm, and density of $1.3\;{\times}\;10^{11}\;cm^{-2}$ were easily formed. Electron field emission measurements were performed with the silicon nanodot layer as the cathode electrode. The current-voltage curves revealed that the threshold electric field was as low as $8.3\;V/{\mu}m$ and the field enhancement factor reached as large as 698, which is compatible with the silicon cathode tips fabricated by other techniques. These electron field emission results point to the possibility of using a silicon-based light source for display devices.

Using microwave plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition, diamond films were successfully grown on Ti-coated glass substrates at temperatures as low as around 500$^{\circ}C$ in behalf of practical applications to field emitters. Electron emission was observed at turn-on fields below 18V-$\mu\textrm{m}$. Field emission characteristics of diamond films were discussed in terms of their crystalline qualities. diamond films with poorer crystalline qualities showed better field emission properties.
Using the LOCOS process, we have fabricated the lateral type polysilicon field emission triodes with poly-Si/oxide/Si structure and investigated their current-voltage characteristics for three biasing modes of operation. The fabricated devices exhibit excellent electrical performances such as a relatively low turn-on anode voltage of 14 V at VGC = 0V, a stable and high emission current of 92${\mu}$A/triode over 90 hours, a small gate leakage current of 0.23 ${\mu}$A/triode and an outstanding transconductance of 57${\mu}$S/5triodes at VGC = 5V and VAC = 26V. these superior electrical operation is believed to be due to a large field enhancement effect, which is related to the sharp cathode tips produced by the LOCOS process as well as the high aspect ratio (height /radius ) of the cathode tip end.
In this paper, I propose the field emission tip for the E-beam array system that is made by carbon nanotubes(CNT). CNT is one of the most expected future materials, because of its great mechanical, chemical and electrical characteristics. So CNT can be used for many applications such as electron emitter, sensor, single electron transistor and AFM tip. And CNT will be applied to our E-beam array system as field emission tip so we will improve the system's electrical characteristics.
The MILD combustion and pollutant emission characteristics were investigated computationally. The temperature of supplying air-stream and mixing rate (${\Omega}$) of exhaust gas in the air-stream were adjusted to investigate the effects of those parameters on the MILD combustion in jet flow field. The emission indices for NO (EINO) and CO (EICO) were introduced to quantify the amount of those species emitted from the combustion. The high-temperature region disappeared gradually as the mixing rate increased for fixed air-stream temperature. The EINO increased as the air-stream temperature became higher for fixed mixing rate, and the EINO decreased dramatically with increasing the mixing rate for each air-stream temperature condition. The EICO also decreased with increasing the mixing rate and it was nearly independent of air-stream temperature except for near ${\Omega}$ = 0.7. It was found that the CO supplied in the air-stream can be destroyed in the MILD combustion over the certain mixing rate.
we have investigated the field emission characteristics of the CNT/TEOS hybrid thin films fabricated by a spray method. It is found that the CNT/TEOS hybrid emitters show high current density, low turn on field, and long-term emission stability compared to the CNT emitters. These efficient field emission characteristics of the CNT/TEOS hybrid emitters are attributed to the TEOS sol, acting as a protection layer of nanotube emitter by surrounding the nanotube tip as well as a binder material to enhance the adhesion of nanotube emitters to the substrate. Therefore, the CNT/TEOS hybrid emitters could be utilized as an alternative for the efficient and reliable field emitters.
Nano-sized conical-type tungsten(W) field-emitters based on carbon nanotubes(CNTs) are fabricated with the configuration of CNTs/catalyst/buffer/W-tip by adopting various buffer layers, such as TiN, Al, Al/TiN, and Al/hi/TiN. This study focuses on elucidating how the buffer layers affect the structural properties of CNTs and the electron-emission characteristics of CNT-emitters. Field-emission scanning electron microscopy(FESEM) and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy(HRTEM) are used to monitor the nanostructures and surface morphologies of all the catalysts and CNTs grown. The crystalline structure of CNTs is also characterized by Raman spectroscopy. Furthermore, the measurement of field-emission characteristics for all the field-emitters fabricated shows that the emitter using the Al/Ni/TiN stacked buffer reveals the most excellent performances, such as maximum emission current of $202{\mu}A$, threshold field of 2.08V/${\mu}m$, and long-term (up to 24h) stability of emission current.
In this research, gallium-incorporated zinc oxide (ZnO:Ga) thin films have been used as a coating material for enhancing the field-emission property of CNT-emitters. Multi-walled CNTs were directly grown on conical-type ($250{\mu}m$ in diameter) metal-tip substrates at $700^{\circ}C$ by inductively coupled plasma-chemical vapor deposition (ICP-CVD). The pulsed laser deposition (PLD) technique was used to produce 5wt% gallium-doped ZnO (5GZO) films with very low stress. The structural properties of ZnO and 5GZO coated CNTs were characterized by Raman spectroscopy. Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) were also used to monitor the variation in the morphology and microstructure of CNTs before and after 5GZO-coating. The measurement of the field emission characteristics showed that the emitter that coated the 5GZO (10nm) on CNTs exhibited the best performance: a maximum emission current of $325{\mu}A$, a threshold field of 2.2 V/${\mu}m$.
I performed a semi-analytical numerical analysis of the effects of core size and electric field intensity on the light emission wavelength of CdSe/ZnS quantum dots (QDs). The analysis used a quantum mechanical approach; I solved the Schrödinger equation describing the electron-hole pairs of QDs. The numerical solutions are described using a basis set composed of the eigenstates of the Schrödinger equation; they are thus equivalent to analytical solutions. This semi-analytical numerical method made it simple and reliable to evaluate the dependency of QD characteristics on the QD core size and electric field intensity. As the QD core diameter changed from 9.9 to 2.5 nm, the light emission wavelength of CdSe core-only QDs varied from 262.9 to 643.8 nm, and that of CdSe/ZnS core/shell QDs from 279.9 to 697.2 nm. On application of an electric field of 8 × 105 V/cm, the emission wavelengths of green-emitting CdSe and CdSe/ZnS QDs increased by 7.7 and 3.8 nm, respectively. This semi-analytical numerical analysis will aid the choice of QD size and material, and promote the development of improved QD light-emitting devices.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the combustion emission characteristics changing auxiliary air injection in combustion field of coaxial swirling diffusion combustor. For this purpose, mean temperature, CO, CO2, O2 and HC concentration were measured by changing excess air ratio and auxiliary air injection. As a result of this study, mean temperature, CO2 emission were increased and CO emission decreased by increasing auxiliary air. Therefore, this paper showed the auxiliary air injection effected strongly on flame structure and combustion emission characteristics.
