  • In general, the daily safety inspection activities, which investigate damages in structures and measures the size of the damage, have been relied heavily on the visual inspection so far. Since the probe of the condition and performance of facilities by such personnel is often dependent on the subjective judgment of the investigator, the consistency and repeatability of the probing results may reduce. Particularly, damage located in a difficult-to-reach place depends mainly on experience with the naked eye, and an unsafe method using a ladder has mainly applied when necessary. Therefore, in this study, we tried to propose a way of using images that can reduce the deviation between safety inspection investigators, enhance objectivity, and improve the safety of workers. In this study, we have applied homographic transformation as a method of correcting the image. As a result of analyzing the size of the damage in the corrected image of the test subject, it confirms that the accuracy of measuring the magnitude of the damage can satisfy the target levels of 5.0mm and 0.005m2, the target accuracy levels. As a result of the field verification test to which the proposed image correction technique applied, the coefficient of variation of the crack length in the structure decreased from 5.4~7.0% to 0.072~0.12%, and that of the damaged area from 10.9% to 1.6%. It confirms that the measurement accuracy is improved. Therefore, it is expected that this study on the image utilization technique in safety inspection activities can increase the accuracy of damage measurement and improve the reliability of the safety inspection reports and exterior survey drawings.

  • This paper deals with the reinforcement performance of acrylate for reinforcing the settled railway roadbed. Concrete tracks have the advantage of reducing track maintenance costs and high resistance to track destruction. However, roadbed settlement is occurring in some construction sections, and the safety of railways is a serious concern because of difficulties in maintenance. Currently, maintenance through the track restoration method is being carried out in Korea as a way of roadbed settlement in concrete tracks, but continuous re-settlement can occur because the roadbed itself cannot be reinforced, and there are very few cases of reinforcement of railway roadbeds and field application. So the development of reinforcement materials and construction methods to reinforce railway roadbeds is required. Therefore, in this paper, acrylate was selected as reinforcement material for railway roadbed, and the reinforcement performance of acrylate was analyzed through experiment. As a result, it was analyzed that the acrylate can penetrate into a permeability coefficient of 1×10-4 cm/sec, and secure uniaxial compression strength of 0.5 MPa/30min or more and stiffness of 80 MPa or more.

  • Traffic data by vehicle classification are important data used as basic data in various fields such as road and traffic design. Traffic data is collected through permanent and temporary surveys and is provided as an annual average daily traffic (AATD) in the statistical yearbook of road traffic. permanent surveys are collected through traffic collection equipment (AVC), and the AVC consists of a loop sensor that detects traffic volume and a piezo sensor that detects the number of axes. Due to the nature of the buried type of traffic collection equipment, missing data is generated due to failure of detection equipment. In the existing method, it is corrected through historical data and the trend of traffic around the point. However, this method has a disadvantage in that it does not reflect temporal and spatial characteristics and that the existing data used for correction may also be a correction value. In this study, we proposed a method to correct the missing traffic volume by calculating the axis correction coefficient through the accumulated number of axes acquired by using a piezo sensor that can detect the axis of the vehicle. This has the advantage of being able to reflect temporal and spatial characteristics, which are the limitations of the existing methods, and as a result of comparative evaluation, the error rate was derived lower than that of the existing methods. The traffic volume correction system using axis count is judged as a correction method applicable to the field system with a simple algorithm.

  • In intracavitary radiotherapy, incorrect location of the source can cause excessive dose to normal tissue, so it is essential to evaluate the location accuracy of the source. In this study, basic research was performed on digital line dosimeter based on lead (II) oxide (PbO) to improve analog verification method. Therefore, a polycrystalline PbO unit cell dosimeter was manufactured and the measurement performance for Ir-192 sources was evaluated. As a result, the reproducibility satisfies the evaluation criteria of 1.5% with a relative standard deviation of 0.85%. Linearity showed excellent results with a linear coefficient of R2 of 0.9998. In the case of distance dependence evaluation, the power function R2 showed 0.9855 for PbO and 0.9974 for diode, and the overall average difference was 1.66% for PbO and 2.18% for diode. This study presents the basic detection performance of the polycrystalline PbO dosimeter for the Ir-192 source and can provide basic data in the field of radiation measurement.

  • With the spread of COVID-19 and the government policy of social distancing, the demand for subways and buses is decreasing, whereas the demand for public bicycles and personal transportation is increasing. Hence, research is needed to understand the characteristics of this phenomenon and to prove the statistical reliability of the correlation between the subway and shared bicycle demands. In this study, the correlation between the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases and the replacement rate of subway and public bicycle demands was examined, but the statistical significance was not significant. However, during the period of September to December 2020, in which the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Seoul started to increase rapidly, there was a correlation between the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases and the replacement ratio. If the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases increases by more than a certain number, public bicycles are expected to play a significant role as alternates to the subways. It is expected that the role of public bicycles will increase, and that it is possible to suggest the direction of transportation operation and policy establishment for the continuation of COVID-19 countermeasures in field demonstration after elementary technology development. It is also expected that this study will suggest a direction for future development and policymaking.

  • The copper plating process used to fabricate the submicron damascene pattern of Cu wiring for Si wafer was applied to the plating of a PCB pattern of several tens of microns in size using the same organic additives and current density conditions. In this case, the non-uniformity of the plating thickness inside the pattern was observed. In order to quantitatively analyze the cause, a numerical calculation considering the solution flow and electric field was carried out. The calculation confirmed that the depletion of Cu2+ ions in the solution occurred relatively earlier at the bottom corner than the upper part of the pattern due to the plating of the sidewall and the bottom at the corner of the pattern bottom. The diffusion coefficient of Cu2+ ions is 2.65 10-10 m2/s, which means that Cu2+ ions move at 16.3 ㎛ per second on average. In the cases of small damascene patterns, the velocity of Cu2+ ions is high enough to supply sufficient ions to the inside of the patterns, while sufficient time is required to replenish the exhausted copper ions in the case of a PCB pattern having a size of several tens of microns. Therefore, it is found that the thickness uniformity can be improved by reducing the current density to supply sufficient copper ions to the target area.

  • Using air as an insulator due to its low heat transfer coefficient has been studied and has been widely commercialized to save energy in the field of thermal insulation technology. In this study, we analyzed the heat insulating effect of hollow silica nanoparticles mixed in non-uniform size, and the maximum heat insulating efficiency of these particles given the limited number of particles that can be mixed with a medium such as paint. The hollow silica nanoparticles were synthesized via a sol-gel process using a polystyrene template in order to produce an air layer inside of the particles. After synthesis, the particles were analyzed for their insulation effect according to the size of the air layer by adding 5 wt % of the particles to paint and investigating the thermal insulation performance by a heat transfer experiment. When mixing the particles with white paint, the insulation efficiency was 15% or higher. Furthermore, the large particles, which had a large internal air layer, showed a 5% higher insulation performance than the small particles. By observing the difference in the insulation effect according to the internal air layer size of hollow silica nanoparticles, this research suggests that when using hollow particles as a paint additive, the particle size needs to be considered in order to maximize the air layer in the paint.

  • Geologic sequestration technologies such as CCS (carbon capture and storage), EGS (enhanced geothermal systems), and EOR (enhanced oil recovery) have been widely implemented in recent years, prompting evaluation of the mechanical stability of storage sites. As fluid injection can stimulate mechanical instability in storage layers by perturbing the stress state and pore pressure, poroelastic models considering various injection scenarios are required. In this study, we calculate the pore pressure, stress distribution, and vertical displacement along a surface using commercial finite element software (COMSOL); fault slips are subsequently simulated using PyLith, an open-source finite element software. The displacement fields, are obtained from PyLith is transferred back to COMSOL to determine changes in coseismic stresses and surface displacements. Our sequential use of COMSOL-PyLith-COMSOL for poroelastic modeling of fluid-injection and induced-earthquakes reveals large variations of pore pressure, vertical displacement, and Coulomb failure stress change during injection periods. On the other hand, the residual stress diffuses into the remote field after injection stops. This flow pattern suggests the necessity of numerical modeling and long-term monitoring, even after injection has stopped. We found that the time at which the Coulomb failure stress reaches the critical point greatly varies with the hydraulic and poroelastic properties (e.g., permeability and Biot-Willis coefficient) of the fault and injection layer. We suggest that an understanding of the detailed physical properties of the surrounding layer is important in selecting the injection site. Our numerical results showing the surface displacement and deviatoric stress distribution with different amounts of fault slip highlight the need to test more variable fault slip scenarios.

  • In this study we introduce a new method for high-spatial-resolution continuous wave (CW) aerosol lidar that has a high spatial resolution in the near field and a low spatial resolution at long distances. A normal lidar system uses a nanosecond-pulse laser and measures the round-trip TOF between the aerosol and laser to obtain range resolution. In this study, however, we propose a new type of spatially resolving aerosol lidar that uses laser-scattering images. Using a laser-light-scattering image, we have calculated the distance of each scattering aerosol image for a given pixel, and recovered the short-range aerosol extinction. For this purpose, we have calculated the distance image and the contribution range of the aerosol to the given one-pixel image, and finally we have calculated the extinction coefficients of the aerosol with range-resolved information. In the case of traditional aerosol lidar, we can only obtain the aerosol extinction coefficients above 400 m. Using our suggested method, it was possible to extend the range of the extinction coefficient lower then several tens of meters. Finally, we can remove the unknown short-range region of pulsed aerosol lidar using our method.
