  • In this paper, the feedforward control with least mean square (LMS) adaptive algorithm is proposed and examined to reduce rotating error by runout of an active magnetic bearing system. Using eddy-current type gap sensors for control, the electrical runout caused by non-uniform material properties of sensor target produces rotational error amplified in feedback control loop, so this runout should be eliminated to increase rotating accuracy. The adaptive feedforward controller is designed and examined its tracking performances and stability numerically with established frequency response function. The designed feedforward controller was applied to a grinding spindle system which is manufactured with a 5.5 kW internal motor and 5-axis active magnetic bearing system including 5 eddy current gap sensors which have approximately 15∼30㎛ of electrical runout. According to the experimental results, the error signal in radial bearings is reduced to less than 5 ,Urn when it is rotating up to 50,000 rpm due to applying the feedforward control for first order harmonic frequency, and corresponding vibration of the spindle is also removed.

  • This paper presents a merit of feedforward Dyamic Matrix Control(DMC) for electrolyzer process. The electrolyzer consists of anode part and cathode part that are separated by ion membrane. As the electolyzer process consumes a large amount of electricity, electric power change is inevitable in order to take advantage of the cheaper electricity during night. But the electric power change makes the electrolyzer control difficult because the electric power change affect the dynamics of the process. Feedforward DMC treats the electric power change as a load disturbance and gives the weighting value to the disturbance prediction part in the DMC algorithm. Feedforward DC shows better regulation performance than PID control and feedforward-feedback control for electrolyzer process.

  • A brush-less type synchronous generator driven by an internal-combustion engine is used for emergency electric source. These types of generators have to maintain a certain range of output voltage even under the sudden load change conditions such as full load application and removal. This paper describes a method for suppressing the output voltage of a synchronous generator that operates excessively when the load fluctuates. The method used in this paper is a feedforward control method in which the main voltage control consists of a feedback loop using a typical PID controller and the load current is detected as a disturbance element and compensated directly. A feedforward system is constructed in which the load current is regarded as disturbance, and the appropriate feedforward controller configuration and parameters are found through simulation. Finally, it can be seen through the experiment that the feedforward control is performed properly. It can be seen that the generator terminal voltage is recovered to the steady state in a short period of time as compared with the existing PID control method even when the entire load of the generator is changed.

According to the experimental analysis, the error signal in radial bearings is reduced to less than 5 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ when it is rotating up to 50,000 rpm due to applying the feedforward control for first order harmonic frequency, and vibration of the spindle base is also reduced about same frequency.

  • This paper presents a longitudinal acceleration controller that can be applied to real vehicles (nonlinear and time-varing systems) with only a simple experiment regardless of the type of vehicle and the control interface structure. The controller consists of a feedforward term for fast response, a zero-throttle acceleration compensation term, and a feedback term (P gain) to compensate for errors in the feedforward term, and another feedback term (I gain) to respond to disturbances such as slope. In order to easily apply it to real vehicles, there are only two tuning parameters, feedforward terms of throttle and brake control. And the remaining parameters can be calculated immediately when the two parameters are decided. The tuning procedure is also unified so that it can be quickly and easily applied to various vehicles. The performance of the controller was evaluated using MATLAB/Simulink and Truksim's European Ben model. In addition, the controller was successfully implemented to 3 medium-sized vehicle (HMC Solati), which is composed of different control interface characteristic. Vehicle driving performance was evaluated on the test track and on the urban roads in Siheung and Seoul.

  • The decoupling of the systems is to let the inputs and outputs correspond one to one, by performing the state feedback or the output feedback on the given systems. In this paper, we propose a method for decoupling the separable-denominator two-dimensional systems. And, we study about the realization dimension of the dynamical feedback and the dynamical feedforward performed for decoupling.

  • DC-DC converter with chopper is seen to have problems, such as, loop instability and degradation of transient response, due to the interaction between input filter and switching regulator. In this paper, the switching regulator consisting of input filter and double chopper is analyzed, and the state space model at continuous current mode and the transfer function between duty ratio of switching pulse and output voltage are derived. The controller in this paper is designed as feedforward(P) and feedback(PI) control scheme to minimize the variation of output voltage, and computer simulation results are presented to show the performance of the proposed controller.

  • In this paper, in order to improve the control performance of piezoelectric actuator, an integrated control structure is proposed. The control structure consists of inverse hysteresis model , to compensate the hysteresis nonlinearty problem, and feedforward - feedback controller to give a good tracking performance. The inverse hysteresis model and neural network are used as feed-forward controller, and PID controller is used as a feedback controller. From diverse experiments it is concluded that the proposed control scheme gives good tracking performance than the classical control does.

  • In this paper, a simple method to design an MIMO sound field control system was proposed. The control system was designed to achieve 1) noise attenuation and 2) sound equalization by utilizing feedback and feedforward controllers. The method was based on partial model matching on frequency domain which only required measured frequency response data, or impulse response data in order to tune parameters of the controller. The proposed method was applied to a normal office room and results of experiment showed effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • This paper presents a development of throttle and brake controller for autonomous vehicle simulation environment. Most of 3D simulator control autonomous vehicle by throttle and brake command. Therefore additional longitudinal controller is required to calculate pedal input from desired acceleration. The controller consists of two parts, feedback controller and feedforward controller. The feedback controller is designed to compensate error between the actual acceleration and desired acceleration calculated from autonomous driving algorithm. The feedforward controller is designed for fast response and the output is determined by the actual vehicle speed and desired acceleration. To verify the performance of the controller, simulations were conducted for various scenarios, and it was confirmed that the controller can successfully follow the target acceleration.
