Hand motion classification problem is considered as basis for sign or gesture recognition. We promote optical flow as main feature extracted from images sequences to simultaneously segment the motion's area by its magnitude and characterize the motion' s directions by its orientation. We manage the flow orientation histogram as motion descriptor. A motion is encoded by concatenating the flow orientation histogram from several frames. We utilize simple histogram matching to classify the motion sequences. Attempted experiments show the feasibility of our method for hand motion localization and classification.

In this paper, we introduce a method of extracting three-dimensional feature points through the movement of a single mobile device. Using a monocular camera, a 2D image is acquired according to the camera movement and a baseline is estimated. Perform stereo matching based on feature points. A feature point and a descriptor are acquired, and the feature point is matched. Using the matched feature points, the disparity is calculated and a depth value is generated. The 3D feature point is updated according to the camera movement. Finally, the feature point is reset at the time of scene change by using scene change detection. Through the above process, an average of 73.5% of additional storage space can be secured in the key point database. By applying the algorithm proposed to the depth ground truth value of the TUM Dataset and the RGB image, it was confirmed that the\re was an average distance difference of 26.88mm compared with the 3D feature point result.

Video images captured by vehicle cameras often contain blurry or dithering frames due to inadvertent motion from bumps in the road or by insufficient illumination during the morning or evening, which greatly reduces the perception of objects expression and recognition from the records. Therefore, a real-time electronic stabilization method to correct fuzzy video from driving recorders has been proposed. In the first stage of feature detection, a coarse-to-fine inspection policy and a scale nonlinear diffusion filter are proposed to provide more accurate keypoints. Second, a new antiblurry binary descriptor and a feature point selection strategy for unintentional estimation are proposed, which brought more discriminative power. In addition, a new evaluation criterion for affine region detectors is presented based on the percentage interval of repeatability. The experiments show that the proposed method exhibits improvement in detecting blurry corner points. Moreover, it improves the performance of the algorithm and guarantees high processing speed at the same time.
This paper suggests the method of the spherical signature description of 3D point clouds taken from the laser range scanner on the ground vehicle. Based on the spherical signature description of each point, the extractor of significant environmental features is learned by the Deep Belief Nets for the urban structure classification. Arbitrary point among the 3D point cloud can represents its signature in its sky surface by using several neighborhood points. The unit spherical surface centered on that point can be considered to accumulate the evidence of each angular tessellation. According to a kind of point area such as wall, ground, tree, car, and so on, the results of spherical signature description look so different each other. These data can be applied into the Deep Belief Nets, which is one of the Deep Neural Networks, for learning the environmental feature extractor. With this learned feature extractor, 3D points can be classified due to its urban structures well. Experimental results prove that the proposed method based on the spherical signature description and the Deep Belief Nets is suitable for the mobile robots in terms of the classification accuracy.

SURF algorithm is an algorithm to extract feature points and to generate descriptors from input images. It is robust to change of environment such as scale, rotation, illumination and view points. Because of these features, it is used for many image processing applications such as object recognition, constructing panorama pictures and 3D image restoration. But there is disadvantage for real time operation because many recognition algorithms such as SURF algorithm requires a lot of calculations. In this paper, we propose a design of feature extractor and descriptor generator based on SURF for high memory efficiency. The proposed design reduced a memory access and memory usage to operate in real time.
Since spatio-temporal local features for video representation have become an important issue of modeless bottom-up approaches in action recognition, various methods for feature extraction and description have been proposed in many papers. In particular, BoF(bag of features) has been promised coherent recognition results. The most important part for BoF is how to represent dynamic information of actions in videos. Most of existing BoF methods consider the video as a spatio-temporal volume and describe neighboring 3D interest points as complex volumetric patches. To simplify these complex 3D methods, this paper proposes a novel method that builds BoF representation as a way to learn 2D interest points directly from video data. The basic idea of proposed method is to gather feature points not only from 2D xy spatial planes of traditional frames, but from the 2D time axis called spatio-temporal frame as well. Such spatial-temporal features are able to capture dynamic information from the action videos and are well-suited to recognize human actions without need of 3D extensions for the feature descriptors. The spatio-temporal BoF approach using SIFT and SURF feature descriptors obtains good recognition rates on a well-known actions recognition dataset. Compared with more sophisticated scheme of 3D based HoG/HoF descriptors, proposed method is easier to compute and simpler to understand.
For many years, researchers in face description area have been representing and recognizing faces based on different methods that include subspace discriminant analysis, statistical learning and non-statistics based approach etc. But still automatic face recognition remains an interesting but challenging problem. This paper presents a novel and efficient face image representation method based on Optimized Local Ternary Pattern (OLTP) texture features. The face image is divided into several regions from which the OLTP texture feature distributions are extracted and concatenated into a feature vector that can act as face descriptor. The recognition is performed using nearest neighbor classification method with Chi-square distance as a similarity measure. Extensive experimental results on Yale B, ORL and AR face databases show that OLTP consistently performs much better than other well recognized texture models for face recognition.

In this paper, we propose a new approach for content-based video retrieval using non-parametric based motion classification in the shot-based video indexing structure. Our system proposed in this paper has supported the real-time video retrieval using spatio-temporal feature comparison by measuring the similarity between visual features and between motion features, respectively, after extracting representative frame and non-parametric motion information from shot-based video clips segmented by scene change detection method. The extraction of non-parametric based motion features, after the normalized motion vectors are created from an MPEG-compressed stream, is effectively fulfilled by discretizing each normalized motion vector into various angle bins, and by considering the mean, variance, and direction of motion vectors in these bins. To obtain visual feature in representative frame, we use the edge-based spatial descriptor. Experimental results show that our approach is superior to conventional methods with regard to the performance for video indexing and retrieval.
This article describes 3 dimensional (3D) face recognition system using histogram of oriented gradients (HOG) based on face curvature. The surface curvatures in the face contain the most important personal feature information. In this paper, 3D face images are recognized by the face components: cheek, eyes, mouth, and nose. For the proposed approach, the first step uses the face curvatures which present the facial features for 3D face images, after normalization using the singular value decomposition (SVD). Fisherface method is then applied to each component curvature face. The reason for adapting the Fisherface method maintains the surface attribute for the face curvature, even though it can generate reduced image dimension. And histogram of oriented gradients (HOG) descriptor is one of the state-of-art methods which have been shown to significantly outperform the existing feature set for several objects detection and recognition. In the last step, the linear discriminant analysis is explained for each component. The experimental results showed that the proposed approach leads to higher detection accuracy rate than other methods.
In this paper, to provide the robustness of character recognition, we propose a recognition method using the dilated boundary curve feature which has the invariance characteristics for the shift, scale, and rotation changes of character pattern. And its some characteristics and effectieness are evaluated through the experiments for both the english alphabets and the numeral digits. The feature vector is represented by the fourier descriptor for a boundary curve of the dilated character pattern which is generated by the circular mask dilation method, and is used for a nearest neighbort classifier(NNC) or a nearest neighbor mean classifier(NNMC). These the processing time and the recognition rate, and take also the robustness of recognition for both some internal noise and partial corruption of an image pattern.
