This study conducted in-depth interviews with a range of stakeholders, such as designers and marketing professionals from upcycled Korean fashion brands, to examine how their sustainable values are reflected and developed through corporate activities related to planning, production, promotion, and distribution. The sustainable values inferred from the interviews were coded based on Schwartz's universal values with a view to addressing conflicts of values and promoting the sustainability of upcycled fashion brands in Korea. Through this process, the study derived universalistic, economic, and self-oriented sustainable values. The study also proposed a conceptual framework for upcycled fashion brands by discussing difficulties and limitations and offer proposals that could help the industry. The results indicate that a key driver for market success is promoting sustainable values in upcycled fashion. Finally, suggestions are offered for follow-up research that can further support sustainable practices in the fashion industry.

  • Regarding the evolving technological landscapes and the integration of fashion imagery into virtual spaces, like the metaverse, this research navigated the transformative dimensions of body expression in contemporary fashion. It is rooted in a posthuman framework, interpreting the novel forms of representation emerging in this dynamic technology-fashion intersection. A comprehensive exploration of posthumanism, transhumanism, and posthuman perspectives preceded the image analysis to elucidate shifting paradigms in portraying the human form within artworks. The analysis of posthuman expressions in fashion imagery unveiled a rejection of hierarchical viewpoints within the human species, challenged gender norms, and embraced diverse body representations. Four distinctive classifications emerged: "Incapacitating of Male Power from Gaze," "Revealing Fearlessly," "Fashioning Non-human Beings," and "Techno-morphism of Body." These categories emphasized transcending conventional beauty standards, highlighting inclusivity by embracing diverse body representations and technologically integrated expressions in fashion. This study addressed the need for more comprehensive ones on evolving posthuman classifications in fashion imagery. The identified trends offered valuable insights for image creators and scholars, encouraging deeper exploration of expressive intentions and perspectives.

  • This study analyzes global fashion clusters to provide insight for the domestic fashion market to form a competitive fashion cluster. We examine formation factors and operation types of the global fashion clusters to understand their characteristics. We also explore the effectiveness of each global fashion cluster by investigating the stage of development in fashion clusters. Fourteen cases of global fashion clusters are collected and analyzed. First, global fashion clusters show three types of formation and operation: self-formation, self-formation & government based development, and government, institute, and enterprise based formation & development. Second, the characteristics of global fashion clusters are based on functions related to space, learning, innovation, network, and knowledge. Third, there are four steps in the development stage of global fashion clusters: professional clusters, industrial clusters, learning clusters and innovative industrial clusters. In particular, innovative industrial clusters, the final stage of development, have high levels of effectiveness in terms of co-growth and collaboration among fashion-related businesses in fashion clusters. The results of this study can help guide the development of local fashion cluster in Korea.
