Comparison of Riboflavin Status between Traditional Farming Women and Commercial Farming Women in Korea

  • this study was undertaken to compare the riboflavin status of rural women with different physical activity intensity and to determine factors influencing biochemical fiboflavin status. The study was carried out over three different farming seasons : planting (June), harvest(October) and interim(February) in two rural regions of Korea. One was a traditional farming region, the other a commercial farming region with heavier work intensity. Twenty women in the traditional region and eighteen women in the commercial region were involved. The intensity of physical activity was determined by a daily activity record. Body composition was assessed by bioelectrical impedence. Dietary riboflavin intake was measured by the food frequency method. Riboflavin biochemical status was assessed by erythrocyte glutathione reductase activity coefficient (EGR AC) and ruinary riboflavin excretion. The results from the EGR AC and urinary riboflavin excretion during the period showed the overall riboflavin status of the commercial farming women was significantly worse than that of the traditional farming women(EGR AC p<0.0001, urinary riboflavin excretion p<0.05). The traditional farming group had about 40% with risk of riboflavin deficiency, whereas the commercial farming group had about 70%. Overall mean nutrient intake was not significantly different between the two groups, however, overall mean percent lean body mass representing long term physical activity was significantly higher in the commercial farming group ( <0.005). It appears that the biochemical riboflavin status of traditional farming women was significantly influenced by riboflavin intake and crude nitrogen balance while the biochemical riboflavin status of the commercial farming women was significantly influenced by riboflavin intake and percent of lean body mass over the three seasons. 농가 가족원의 생활시간 분석 (An Analysis of Rural Families' Time-Use)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze time-use of rural families. The data for 9l4 persons or 400 farm households in eight provinces were collected using time diary. The results were as follows. 1) The time-use of the farming season were different from that of the off-filming season in rural area. 2) In the case of farm wort the working hours of husband were significantly longer than those of wife during the farming and of-filming season. In contrast the working hours of wife for housekeeping were significantly longer than those of husband during both seasons. 3) The time spent of work by rural adults is much longer than average work hours of adults in general during the farming season. And the rural adults spend less time in leisure compared to the adults in general during the farming season.

유기농가 부부의 노동과 일상생활 (The Labor and Everyday Life of Organic Farm Households Coulpes)

  • This study identifies the spectrum of different forms of sharing labor in farm houses following the increase in the production of organic produce and deals with the gender division of labor and every day life of the farm households. The increased labor burdens of organic farming give more work opportunities to wives, weakening the gender barriers. However, some of the farm households seeking for economic feasibility are strengthening the gender barriers by specialized work divisions, leading to outside order labor of harvest, sorting, and packaging in order to increase efficiency in agricultural management in extreme cases. Even in the alternative distribution system, farm households has become subject to the distribution system as it is shown that coop claimed the segmentation of sorting work. This is because the convenience of the customers goes before the advantages of producers. Jinju, seeking for economic feasibility, has established the springboard for growth by greenhouse through monoculture and specialization and are operating economic growth stably. Farm couples with this condition, where their incomes are relatively high, are attempting to recharge their energy during low seasons. It is expected that this will be a model case of conventionalization of organic farming. Significance of organic farming in this matter is discussed.

여성농업인의 경영주 등록 결정에 대한 일·생활 분야 영향요인 (Factors Influencing the Registration as Managers of Female Farmers on the Field of Work and Life)

  • This study aims to identify the factors influencing the registration of managers or co-managers in agricultural management in the field of work and life of female farmers and to derive implications for expanding the registration of female farmers as managers and securing the status of women. In this study, binomial logit analysis was conducted with 1,043 questionnaire responses collected on&offline to achieve the research purpose. As a result of the analysis, it was found that the duration of farming, decision-making initiative, the experience of the supporting policies for farming activity, the activities of the crop group/research or female farmer's group, and the experience of supporting policies for self-development and leisure activities had a statisticallty significant effect on the registration of female farmers.

Tele-operating System of Field Robot for Cultivation Management - Vision based Tele-operating System of Robotic Smart Farming for Fruit Harvesting and Cultivation Management

  • Purposes: This study was to validate the Robotic Smart Work System that can provides better working conditions and high productivity in unstructured environments like bio-industry, based on a tele-operation system for fruit harvesting with low cost 3-D positioning system on the laboratory level. Methods: For the Robotic Smart Work System for fruit harvesting and cultivation management in agriculture, a vision based tele-operating system and 3-D position information are key elements. This study proposed Robotic Smart Farming, an agricultural version of Robotic Smart Work System, and validated a 3-D position information system with a low cost omni camera and a laser marker system in the lab environment in order to get a vision based tele-operating system and 3-D position information. Results: The tasks like harvesting of the fixed target and cultivation management were accomplished even if there was a short time delay (30 ms ~ 100 ms). Although automatic conveyor works requiring accurate timing and positioning yield high productivity, the tele-operation with user's intuition will be more efficient in unstructured environments which require target selection and judgment. Conclusions: This system increased work efficiency and stability by considering ancillary intelligence as well as user's experience and knowhow. In addition, senior and female workers will operate the system easily because it can reduce labor and minimized user fatigue.

제과용 원료 감자의 계약생산과 계약지역 감자 농업의 산업화: 강원도 양구군 해안면을 중심으로 (Contract Farming of Potatoes for Confectionery Raw Materials and the Industrialization of Potato Farming in Contract Area: Focusing on Haean-myeon, Yanggu-gun, Gangwon-do)

  • 계약생산을 주도하는 기업은 농산물 생산에 통제력을 발휘하고 계약지역 농업 구조에 영향을 미치게 된다. 본 연구는 국산 원료의 사용 비중이 높은 칩가공용 감자의 계약생산에 주목하고 제과업체 𐩒기업과 강원도 양구군 해안면 감자농가 간 계약생산을 대상으로 계약생산의 특징을 규명하고 계약생산이 지역농업에 미친 영향을 농업의 산업화 관점에서 설명했다. 연구 결과 계약기업은 감자의 품질 및 농작업의 수월성을 확보하고자 기계작업이 용이한 농지 보유 농가를 우선 선정하고 농기계를 공급하는 등 농업의 집약화를 촉진하고 있다. 또한 일정 규모 이상 계약이 가능한 농가를 선정하고 판로를 보장하여 농업의 집중화에 영향을 주었고 나아가 가공용 품종의 공급 및 재배 기술의 확산을 통해 계약지역 감자 농업의 전문화를 촉진한 것으로 나타났다. 이상과 같은 세 가지 차원에서 계약생산은 지역농업의 산업화를 촉진한 것으로 확인되었다.

고령화 사회 농촌 노인의 노동과 여가의 시간 배분 (Allocation of Time between Work and Leisure of the Rural Elderly in Korea)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the allocation of time between work and leisure by the rural elderly in Korea. The data used for this study are collected from fm households during the peak ($17^{th}\;to\;30^{th}$ June) and off-peak ($28^{th}$ November to $10^{th}$ December) farming seasons of 2005 using time diary. The sample for this study consists of 120 elderly over 65 years old living in rural area in eight provinces. The major findings are as follows. (1) The time spent of farm work by rural elderly in much longer than average work hours of elderly in general regardless of farming season. The indicates that the elderly farmers are the sustaining forces of agriculture as the urban industrial sector absorbs the younger labor force rural area. (2) There are significant differences in the work time(including form work, housework, and farm work plus house work) by gender, age, education, marital status, living arrangements. (3) The rural elderly spends less time in leisure compared to the elderly in general even during the off-peak season. (4) Especially during the peak season, time allocation between work and leisure by the rural elderly is heavily skewed, resulting in an inadequate amount of time for reproduction of labor. (5) There is only significant age difference in the amount leisure time regardless of farming season. (6) Male elderly farmers work approximately 30 minutes to 1 hour longer on farm than the females do, but the total work time (farm work plus housework) of female elderly is longer than that of the male elderly. There is no significant gender difference in the amount of leisure time during the peak season, whereas the men have more leisure than the women during the off-peak season. To conclude, the gender differences in time allocation among the rural elderly are minimal. However, the rural elderly of both genders suffers from excessive work hours and heavy workload compared to the urban counterpart.

농작업에서 발생하는 하지자세의 근골격계 질환 위험도 평가를 위한 인간공학적 평가도구 개발 (Development of an Ergonomic Checklist for the Investigation of Work-related Lower Limb Disorders in Farming - ALLA: Agricultural Lower-Limb Assessment)

  • Objective: To develop an ergonomic evaluation tool which can be apply to assess the lower-limb postures associated with farming tasks. Background: In general, most of existing ergonomic assessment tools was developed to investigate the work-related musculoskeletal disorders of the upper-limb postures in manufacturing industry. Methods: As the first step of development of the evaluation tool, 13 lower-limb postures that were commonly observed in farming task were investigated by the subjective discomfort ratings, heart rates, and muscle activities. And then, an ergonomic evaluation tool for the lower-limb postures was developed based on results of the first experiment. Lastly, the ergonomic checklist which was developed in the current study was compared with other existing ergonomic assessment tools. Results: Based on the results of comparisons between a newly developed assessment tool and other existing assessment tools, it was found that a newly developed tool can perceive more sensitively for the various lower-limb postures than other assessment tools. Conclusions: Lower-limb posture assessment tool which can evaluate and assess risks of lower-limb WMSDs which were prevalent in farming tasks more easily and accurately was developed in this study. The lower-limb assessment tool can also be utilized to prevent WMSDs related with lower-limbs as well as improve working environments.

발달장애인의 사회적 농업분야 일자리 창출방안 연구 (Study on the Creation of Jobs in the Social Farming of People with Developmental Disabilities)

  • 본 연구는 사회적 농업에서 발달장애인의 일자리 가능성을 모색하여 창출방안을 도출하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 해외 사회적 농업 활동 중에서 발달장애인 대상 사례를 참조하였다. 그리고 국내의 사회적 농장 다섯 곳을 방문하여 관찰하고, 담당자를 인터뷰하였다. 연구내용은 발달장애인의 일자리로서 사회적 농업의 의미와 가능성을 파악하고 사회적 농업에서 지속가능한 발달장애인 일자리 창출방안을 탐색하였다. 연구결과, 국내의 사회적 농업은 초기단계 있으며, 발달장애인에 대한 치유와 돌봄 중심의 농업체험 중심의 활동이 대부분이었다. 향후 지속적인 농업교육과 활동을 통해서 발달장애인에게 적합한 농업 일자리로서의 가능성이 충분하다는 결론을 도출하였다. 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 본 연구에서는 사회적 농업 분야에서 발달장애인 일자리 창출모형을 제안하였다. 본 연구에서 제시하는 일자리 창출모형은 크게 치유중심의 체험형, 돌봄 중심의 보호작업형, 사회적 일자리 모형으로 구분하였고, 사회적 일자리 모형에 스마트 팜 모형과 식물공장 모형을 추가하였다.

스마트 농축산업을 위한 ICT 표준화 중점항목 분석 (ICT Standardization Strategy Item Analysis for Smart Farming and Livestock Farming)

  • IT 와 농업 및 축산업의 융합은 생산, 유통, 소비 분야에서의 효율과 질적 향상을 기대하게 되었고 특히 IT 영역의 정보 분석 기술과 자동제어 기술은 농산물 생산에 많은 장점을 제공하게 되었다. 네트워크 기반에서의 농축산업 분야 ICT 확대는 기술적, 환경적인 측면에서의 어려움들을 해결하게 되었으며 ICT 융합을 주도하는 국내 및 국제 표준기구에서는 최근 스마트 농축산업 영역에서의 필수 기술 항목을 표준화하여 다양한 문제를 해결하려고 시도하고 있다. 본 논문에서는 IT와 접목한 스마트 농축산업 환경에서의 ICT 표준화 중점 항목을 분석하고 로드맵을 제시한다.
