The purpose of this study were to analyze the agricultural work and household work of farm couples. Time use survey are vital towards understanding social obligations and also an important input policy analysis. Rural farm work divided into the peak and the off-peak farming seasons was analysed to study the allocation of daily time use among farm couples. The major results are as follow: Farm work time is longer in the peak than in the off-peak. Especially, women farmer's farming work time in the off-peak is still longer than man farmer's that. The gender difference in total work time in this study shows that the women farmers work more. During both seasons, the time allocation of the women farmer were unbalanced because of the differences in the level of workload by gender.

The objective is to find the classification criteria between urban and rural, and to classify the urban and rural area all the country in Korea. For the research objectives, reviews of related literature and statistical yearbooks were used for finding criteria and analysing data. Through reviewing the literature, some indicators were selected in views of rurality and urbanity, and gathered the data from statistical yearbooks. And factor analysis was used to find first and second factor for classifying region. Six factors as a city surrounding(36%), non-farmer household population ratio(28.1%), cultivated acreage(12.48%), agricultural production surrounding (12.40%), the farm family number change(5.58%) and household number rise and fall(5.54%) were finding. And rurality factors were cultivated acreage, agricultural production surrounding, the farm family number change and household number rise and fall, and urbanity factors were city surrounding and non-farmer household population ratio. Based on the first and second factor loaded amount, four type regional classification was followed.
This case study surveyed management situations of environmentally friendly farming (EFF) and their awareness situations. Farmers are aging as an average age of 62-year old. The EFF did not increase farmer's income, however, farm income of EFF was more than that of conventional farming. Farm household liabilities showed large deviation among farmers. Livestock and greenhouse farm households have more liabilities because of facilities and feed cost. Farmers of EFF have been also cultivating conventional farming, but they don't plan much conversion intention of conventional farming into EFF owing to lack of differentiated and stable market for their environment-friendly agriculture products. And they are guessing that EFF income will usually not increase more. For increasing of EFF income, they think that it is necessary to enlarge production area, change to high-income crop, develop processing foods, change to organic farming and so on.
The Farm Household Economy Survey (FHES) is carried out by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry every year. In this paper, we reveiwed the current status of the FHES and assessed the precision of the survey results. Finally we proposed some recommendations for improving the precision and presented the improvable directions of FHES with some feasible solutions.
Farm households consumption pattern from 1960 to 1968 was analized as follows. First, the influence of the price on the consumption pattern was observed by year for 9 years. Second, the influence of farm households and by size of the consmption pattern was analized by year for whole household and by size of the arable land. Third, the present status and problems of farm families consumption pattern was attempted to be found out compared with the pattern of all families of Seoul. Forth, the pattern of food expenditure which has the largest proportion in the living expenditure was analized. Following results and conclusions are obtained from the above analysis.1. The average nominal increase rate of all farm households has been increased gradually for 9 years, mostly due to the rise in household goods prices paid by farmers. 2. The living expenditure varies with the price and the disposal income, The influence of the latter is greater than that of the former. 3. The Engel's Coefficient of farmers. the average of which was 54.9%, recently tends to decrease gradually. The larger is the size of arable land, the lower is the Coefficient of farm households. But the Coefficient of farm households is higher than that of city families. 4. In general the proportion of food expenditure has a great influence on the consumption pattern, The average percentage of miscellaneous expenditure is 23.9% and it is next to food expenditure. The relationship between them is going reversely. Housing expenditure has usually the constant proportion. But the difference of the proportion between farm households (4.0%) and city families (17.1%) is considerable. Clothing expenditure and fuel and light expenditure have small variations. The former tends to increase with the income, and the latter tends to decrease with it or is constant. 5. Considering the food expenditure pattern, the average percentage (78.4%)of staple food of farm household is remarkably high compared with Seoul (48.3%) and other cities (54.0%). The decrease of the percentage of staple food expenditure in farm households is not so much as cities. 6. The propertion of the staple food expenditure of Farm families don't have so much differences by the size of arable land. But the rice proportion of staple foods has the tendency to increase with the income level. Subsidery food expenditure doesn't increase by year and by size of the land, while the consumption of meat and manufactured foods tends to increase with size of the land. But even big farm households don't reach to the level of cities in consumption of them. 7. Food consumption pattern may be influenced by the factors such as the knowledge of wife about nutrition, customs, consumption habits, and so on. The difference between farm households and city families in food consumption pattern is inferred from the above factors. Presently, the increasing income of the people promote the consumption of all items of living expenditure both in cities and farm households. But the Engel's Coeffcient and the proportion of the staple food expenditure is expected to decrease in farm households more than in cities.
Purpose - The structural changes of Korean agriculture are complex due to heterogeneous production processes and farms' features. This study analyzed trends of dualism in Korean agriculture over the period 2000-15 based on farm-level data to clarify the specific trends of dualism in terms of farm income, farm-size, and farm operators' age. From the results of this study, we would be able to understand the features of structural changes in Korean agriculture more profoundly. Research design, data, and methodology - We incorporated farm-level data in South Korea: Agricultural census and Farm household economy survey. As measures of inequality, we used size-weighted quantiles, and normalized Gini coefficients as well as mean and conventional quantiles. The size-weighted quantiles are more robust to changes in the number of small farms, but they are more sensitive to changes in the distribution of farm-size. Thus, they would be more useful to identify trends of dualism of Korean agriculture. Results - The results show that the farmland distribution of crop farms became more skewed and dispersed. However, the herd distribution of livestock farms became more concentrated. To be specific, their mean and 1st quantile increases more rapidly than their size-weighted 2nd quantile and size-weighted 3rd quantile. Gini coefficients of livestock farms regarding their herd distribution decreased by 0.1 on average. In the case of income distribution, the results indicate that the polarization regarding farm household/agricultural/non-agricultural income became more severe. However, we also found that the distribution of transfer income became concentrated continuously. The results imply that transfer income including subsidies would decrease farm income polarization. Lastly, during the study periods, Korean farms were aging over time, and age distribution of them more concentrated. Conclusions - The structure of Korean agriculture has been changing, even though the absolute size of it decreased over time. Land (herd) distribution became more dispersed (concentrated). Inequality regarding agricultural income became more severe, and it made farm household income more polarized even though transfer income would decrease income gaps among farms. Lastly, farms continue to age regardless of farm types and this might affect the structural changes in Korean agriculture in the future.
This study is aimed at evaluating the present management status of the rural special production area development projects and identifying managerial problems to propose new direction of the political countermeasures for the projects. In the con text of implementing the five year's economic developent plans for the past three decades, agricultural production and farm-household income have also been grown rapidly. However the income gap between rural and urbarn laborer, as an internal problem, has widened during the decades and the UR problems concerning free trade of agricultural products, as an external problems, are now agonizing the small-holder farm economy in Korea. The internal and external farm problems could be solved through improvement of agricultural structure and provision of off-farm jobs for farm household income increase. As a part of the off-farm income sources, the rural special production area development projects have propelled by the government throughout the country. The main problems to be solved for the successful implementation of the projects are as follows : 1. Present loan amount by the financial fund was estimated at 6-7% of the total installation costs required. To expand and implement the project successfully, enough financial credit support with favorable terms and conditions have to be considered by the government. 2. The operation patterns of the special production area development project should be recommended from the view point of cooperative and private operation to maximize farm household incomes including profits, marketing charges and dividens. 3. Improvement of the marketing channel of the products and marketing information through TV program and other mass communication should be implemented strongly to promote marketsales by the financial supports of the government. 4. In connection with the off-farm income increase, the population migrating to urban area in outside Chungnam province equivalent to 10-12 thousand persons with age of 20-49 years should be taken into account politically to be employed in the projects in the province. 5. Surplus farm labors should be created by means of improvement of agricultural structure including large farm management with farm mechanization and job opportunities have also to be provided in connection with the rural special production area development projects. The two imminent subjects are the prerequisites to increase off-farm incomes for the farmers living in Chungnam province. 6. Required credit supports for investment and operation costs of the projects should be taken actions by the government.
The Farm Revival Program of the Farm Land Bank, implemented in 2006, initiated as the Agricultural Land Bank's business proposal to achieve efficient usage of farm land. Also, expansion of Farm Revival Program will bring positive effects when considering the fact that Farm Revival Program contributes to farm liability issues and management improvements. However, despite the importance of Farm Revival Program, searching for improvement methods through a rural demand survey is very insufficient. The following research limits the target to farms that applied for the management redemption project within Gangwon Province and examined the application motivation, project satisfaction, and demands of the farms. This research holds value as a fundamental data which reflects the demands of farms to better manage Farm Land Purchasing of the Farm Land Bank.

This paper investigates the determinants of credit accessibility and the effect of credit on the income of farm households borrowing from Vietnam Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development, Giong Rieng District Branch, Kien Giang Province. Based on the primary data of 200 farming households who are the customer of the bank, the study applied the Probit regression model to examine determinant factors of credit accessibility of farm households and employed the Propensity score matching method to investigate the impact of credit on households' income. The findings of the Probit regression shown that three independent variables that significantly influence the access to credit of households are household size, income source, and farm size. Besides that, the Propensity score matching method results showed a difference of 23.799 million VND/year between the income of borrowing households and that of non-borrowing households at the significance level of 1%. The difference in the imcome from the interval and central matching methods are VND 24.700 million VND/year and VND 24.633 million VND/year, respectively. Given empirical findings suggetsted that several recommendations to increase the credit accessibility of farm households, thereby creating favorable conditions for improving their income.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the farmland scale improvement project and to present basic data for establishing a long-term improvement scheme of this project. Professional rice cultivators' farming scale after receiving the farmland scale improvement fund has increased compared to the situation before receiving the fund support. The average paddy fields increased by 220% (from 2.75ha to 8.82ha), the average upland increased by 27% (from 0.44ha to 0.56ha), and the average orchard land increased by 44% (from 0.25ha to 0.36ha). The rice production costs per 10a are estimated as 608,678won for below 3ha, 488,721won for 3-6ha, 487,431won for 6~10ha, and 425,313won for over 10ha, which decreased with increasing farming scale. The effects of the farmland scale improvement project on income variation are summarized as follows. 1) Average farm household income for all subjects has increased by 223 % (from 40,517,000won to 90,295,000won). 2) For each category, the results show that average farm household income has increased by 9,766,000won for below 3ha, 35,898,000won for 3~6ha, 42,822,000won for 6~10ha, and 72,697,000won for over 10ha.
