Local and Global Attention Fusion Network For Facial Emotion Recognition (얼굴 감정 인식을 위한 로컬 및 글로벌 어텐션 퓨전 네트워크)

  • Deep learning methods and attention mechanisms have been incorporated to improve facial emotion recognition, which has recently attracted much attention. The fusion approaches have improved accuracy by combining various types of information. This research proposes a fusion network with self-attention and local attention mechanisms. It uses a multi-layer perceptron network. The network extracts distinguishing characteristics from facial images using pre-trained models on RAF-DB dataset. We outperform the other fusion methods on RAD-DB dataset with impressive results.

  • The perception of facial esthetics is critically important to orthodontists. A viewpoint to facial esthetics is influenced by various factors and dependent on the perception of observer. The purpose of this study was to examine the differences regarding esthetic viewpoints among orthodontists, to identify attractive profiles preferred to orthodontists and to present the characteristic aspects of attractive profiles upon the degree of facial convexity. 35 persons whose faces were judged as attractive one by S orthodontists were selected out of 133 young Korean women. Soft tissue profiles Identified as a good-profile group were measured and analyzed. And then according to the facial convexity, good-profile group was subdivided to convex (G-Sn-Pg$9^{\circ}$) and straight (G-Sn-Pg<$9^{\circ}$) groups for the purpose of this study. There were statistically no significant differences regarding esthetic viewpoints among S orthodontists(p<0.05), even if there exists prevailing concept that the standard for facial esthetics is substantially subjective.   • 1. Objectives Recently there have been studied the trials to take out the characteristics of Sasangin's face. 3 dimensional modeling is essential to find out sasangin's face. So the studies of standard face model and face type are necessary. 2. Methods I have reviewed the researches of standard facial modeling and facial type in the inside and outside of the country. 3. Results and Conclusions The Facial Definition Parameters are a very complex set of parameters defined by MPEG-4. It has defineds set of 84 feature points and 68 Facial Animation Parameters. Face type has been researched to divide into male and female, or the westerns and the orientals, or sasangin(Taeyangin, Taeumin, Soyangin, Soeumin).

  • The purpose of this research is to contemplate chronological changes of Korean actress facial image and fashion from 1960s to 1990s and to identify Korean women's ideal beauty reflected through the times. Adjectives describing representative actresses of each studied decade were collected from major newspapers and magazines. Korean women's ideal beauty was divided into 4 sub-types such as youthful, pure, sophisticate, and sexy images. As a result of analyzing actress facial image and fashion, youthful and pure beauties were found consistently over the studied periods. Representative characteristics of sophisticate and sexy beauties have been changed over the studied periods which were influenced by socio-cultural environment factors. The result of this research can provide meaningful sources for historical drama, celebrity marketing strategy planning, and personal image consulting.

Face Tracking System Using Updated Skin Color (업데이트된 피부색을 이용한 얼굴 추적 시스템)

  • *In this paper, we propose a real-time face tracking system using an adaptive face detector and a tracking algorithm. An image is divided into the regions of background and face candidate by a real-time updated skin color identifying system in order to accurately detect facial features. The facial characteristics are extracted using the five types of simple Haar-like features. The extracted features are reinterpreted by Principal Component Analysis (PCA), and the interpreted principal components are processed by Support Vector Machine (SVM) that classifies into facial and non-facial areas. The movement of the face is traced by Kalman filter and Mean shift, which use the static information of the detected faces and the differences between previous and current frames. The proposed system identifies the initial skin color and updates it through a real-time color detecting system. A similar background color can be removed by updating the skin color. Also, the performance increases up to 20% when the background color is reduced in comparison to extracting features from the entire region. The increased detection rate and speed are acquired by the usage of Kalman filter and Mean shift.

  • Objectives : This study investigated the relationship between presymtoms and stroke subtype in early state of stroke patients. Methods : From Oct. 2005 to May 2007, 623 early state stroke patients were included. Patients were hospitalized within 30 days after the onset of stroke at DongGuk University International Hospital, Kyungwon University In-cheon Oriental Medical Hospital, or Kyung Hee University Oriental Hospital. We investigated general characteristics, stroke subtype, and presymtoms (facial spasm, neck stiffness). Results : Hemorrhagic stroke had more facial spasm than ischemic stroke(odds ratio 2.80). Small vessel occlusion had more neck stiffness than others(odds ratio 1.59). Conclusions : Facial spasm and neck stiffness would be valuable as stroke presymtoms.

Recognition of Facial Emotion Using Multi-scale LBP (멀티스케일 LBP를 이용한 얼굴 감정 인식)

  • In this paper, we proposed a method to automatically determine the optimal radius through multi-scale LBP operation generalizing the size of radius variation and boosting learning in facial emotion recognition. When we looked at the distribution of features vectors, the most common was $LBP_{8.1}$ of 31% and sum of $LBP_{8.1}$ and $LBP_{8.2}$ was 57.5%, $LBP_{8.3}$, $LBP_{8.4}$, and $LBP_{8.5}$ were respectively 18.5%, 12.0%, and 12.0%. It was found that the patterns of relatively greater radius express characteristics of face well. In case of normal and anger, $LBP_{8.1}$ and $LBP_{8.2}$ were mainly distributed. The distribution of $LBP_{8.3}$ is greater than or equal to the that of $LBP_{8.1}$ in laugh and surprise. It was found that the radius greater than 1 or 2 was useful for a specific emotion recognition. The facial expression recognition rate of proposed multi-scale LBP method was 97.5%. This showed the superiority of proposed method and it was confirmed through various experiments.

  • The nasal and zygoma bone are parts of frequently fracturing of facial bones because of anatomically protrusion. Of facial bone fractures, nasal bone is at the high level of incidence rate. But zygoma fracture that anatomical characteristics increase the incidence rate also is occupied considerable part of the facial bone fracture. The outline of face is decided by form of underlying skeletal structure, of that, zygoma plays an important role in. Zygoma is closely attached to surrounding anatomic structure as orbit, maxillary sinus. Aesthetic and functional disturbance are developed by zygoma fracture from trauma, complications, as facial asymmetry, trismus, sensory disturbance, epistaxis, periorbital hemorrhage, diplopia etc, are developed. The patterns of complications following displacement of fractured fragment of zygoma by trauma are slightly different.

Analysis of Clinical Research Trends for Acupotomy Treatment of Peripheral Facial Palsy

  • The purpose of this review was to investigate acupotomy treatment for peripheral facial palsy. By reviewing recent clinical trends, this may contribute to standardizing acupotomy treatment methods. There were 7 randomized controlled trials and 6 case series using acupotomy treatment for peripheral facial palsy published between January 01, 2014 and April 05, 2021, which were retrieved from 9 online databases. The number and characteristics of participants, main treatment sites, combination treatments, size of acupotomy needle, frequency and total period of treatment, evaluation indices, efficacy, and adverse events were analyzed. "Tender point or induration," "infraorbical foramen," and "buccal mucosa" were the most used treatment sites. The sizes of acupotomy needles varied from 20 mm to 80 mm in length, and 0.35 mm to 1.0 mm in diameter. One treatment cycle was performed every 3 to 5-7 days, and the number of treatments per treatment session ranged from 3 to 5-9 cycles. The results were evaluated using 1 to 4 evaluation indices and 9 different evaluation indices were used overall. The efficacy rate was the most used index, followed by the House-Brackmann grade, and electrocardiography. The "Risk of Bias 2," categorized most studies as having "some concerns." There were few adverse events reported.

Clinical and cephalometric characteristics in patients with anterior open bite and mandibular condylar resorption (Original Article 2 - 전방개교합이 동반된 하악과두흡수 환자의 임상적 특징 및 악안면 골격형태에 관한 연구)

  • The aim of this study was to investigate clinical and cephalometric characteristics of patients with anterior open bite and mandibular condylar resorption. Total of 45 subjects were recruited from the patients who visited the Department of Oral Medicine, Kyungpook National University Hospital in 2006 for treatment of temporomandibular dysfunction. After taking patient's history concerning temporomandibular joint dysfunction, clinical examination was performed and panoramic, transcranial, and lateral cephalometric radiographs were obtained. The cephalometric data were compared to those of normal Korean population. The results were as follow: 1. Clinical characteristics 1) Female was 4.6 time more prevalent than male, and 82.2% of the subjects were in second and third decade. 2) Angle's Class I occlusal type was 51%, Class II was 29%, and Class III was 20%. 3) The mean value of the overjet and overbite were 3.2mm and -1.1mm, respectively. 4) Most of the patients had parafunctional oral habits. 2. Cephalometric characteristics 1) SNA showed no significant difference between condyle resorption and normal group. However, in female resorption group, SNB was lesser and ANB was greater than those in normal group. 2) SN-GoMe and FMA increased in resorption group. 3) Palatal plane angle did not show significant difference between resorption and normal group. 4) Total posterior facial height was significantly smaller and total anterior facial height showed no significant increase as compared with those of the normal group. 5) Mandibular body length did not show any significant difference between resorption and normal group.
