  • Purpose: This study analyzes the self-efficacy and CAD/CAM practice of dental technology students with the aim of providing data that will be useful for improving CAD/CAM education. Methods: A questionnaire survey on self-efficacy and CAD/CAM practice was given to students who participated in face-to-face classes in the Department of Dental Technology at a college in Daegu and Gyeongsangnam-do. The survey period was two weeks long (June 15, 2020 to July 2, 2020), and 84 students completed the questionnaire. Results: The higher the self-efficacy, the fewer difficulties or mistakes students made in CAD/CAM practice. The most difficult parts of the scanning process were the top and bottom arc operation and the bite match arc insertion. The most difficult part of the design work was the use of (multiple) tools. The difference between the degree of difficulty and the degree of mistakes during the practical course was shown as the margin line setting in the design work. Setting the margin line was not difficult, but the degree of mistakes was nonetheless high. In the CAM process, height control was the most difficult part, but the degree of mistakes did not differ according to students' self-efficacy. Conclusion: Given that higher self-efficacy correlated with fewer difficulties or mistakes in CAD/CAM practice, students should be encouraged to enhance their self-efficacy. This may be done by improving their satisfaction with their major course of study, forming friendly relations with their colleagues, and increasing the ratio of performance rather than observation in CAD/CAM practice.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the features that make residents feel “at home” in ALFs in Southwest Virginia and to suggest further policy and design guidelines for better Quality of ALFs as a “home.” For this purpose, residents' needs, experiences, and opinions of the physical environment, the social environment, and the organizational environments such as policies and programs of ALFs were identified. As a multi-case study, five ALFs in Southwest Virginia were studied using constant comparative methos of data analysis. In addition to face-to-face interviews with 25 residents and five administrators of five ALFs, observations were conducted with personal journal. Overall, the five sites selected presented homelike features showing the philosophy of assisted living which combines housing and services. Each facility was designed to be a single-family house or multi-family dwelling in outside appearance. As a whole, residents felt isolation and loneliness and they did not have active interaction with other residents because of diverse background among the residents. However, all of them had close relationships with the staff. The staff's attitude and behavior seemed to influence greatly the residents' feeling “at home.” Despite the provision of diverse activities by the facilities, many residents did not participate in the programs. Most of the residents agreed that the rule and regulations were fair. In spite of high satisfaction with the facility, many people did not think of their current dwelling as a real ‘home.’ As the biggest difference between living in their own homes and living in the ALF, people pointed out a lack of independence, freedom, and autonomy. Residents of ALFs may have reordered their priorities in their current life situation so that safety, security, and care were more important to them than feeling “at home.” Among the three factors --physical, social, and organizational-- that affect the residents' perception of ALFs as a “home, ” many emphasized the importance of social factors such as relationships with the staff and residents, and social support from their family or friends.

  • Purpose: Full-thickness skin grafts are usually used in facial reconstruction, but on occasion, split-thickness skin graft is also used from the scalp due to the limitation of donor site. However, there were complications, such as alopecia, folliculitis and blood loss. In addition, it can not be used in patients with baldness. Under the circumstances, we used medial arm skin as split-thickness skin graft donor site in lieu of scalp. We investigated the efficacy of the medial arm skin as a donor site of facial skin graft in comparison with scalp. Methods: From 2000 to 2005, the split-thicknesss skin grafts were performed using the medial arm skin in 10 patients and the scalp in 10 patients. We inspected the skin color match, texture match by the visual analogue scale. Scar contracture was estimated by the Visitrak $grade^{(R)}$(Smith & Nephew). The statistical analysis was performed by SPSS 12.0. Results: There was a more satisfaction in color match, texture, and scar contracture in medial arm skin than in scalp. Conclusion: According to these results, medial arm skin may be used efficiently as an alternative donor site of scalp in the facial reconstruction.

  • Background: Epidermal cysts are benign, slow growing cysts that often develop on the head, neck, chest, and back of adults. The most common method of surgical excision involves the use of a scalpel and often leaves a scar proportional to the size of the cyst. Therefore, minimally invasive techniques are required. Among these techniques, the $CO_2$ laser-based technique is minimally invasive and has lower complication rate, shorter recovery times, and lesser scarring. This paper aimed to compare the results and postoperative complications associated with a $CO_2$ laser-based excision against conventional surgical excision for epidermal cysts. Methods: We surveyed 120 patients, aged 16 to 65 years, with epidermal cysts on the face measuring 0.5 to 2.2 cm in diameter. Twelve months later, we compared the scar length, recurrence rate, patient satisfaction, and complications between patients treated with $CO_2$ laser excision versus surgical excision. Results: The mean scar length (12 months postoperative) after $CO_2$ laser excision was $0.30{\pm}0.15cm$, and that following surgical excision was $1.23{\pm}0.43cm$ (p= 0.001). The procedure time (time from incision after local anesthesia to the end of repair) was $16.15{\pm}5.96minutes$ for $CO_2$ laser excision versus $22.38{\pm}6.05minutes$ for surgical excision (p= 0.001). The recurrence rates in the surgical excision group and $CO_2$ laser excision group were 3.3% and 8.3%, respectively; this difference was not statistically significant (p= 0.648). Conclusion: The cosmetic outcome of $CO_2$ laser excision is excellent. For epidermal cysts measuring 2.2 cm or smaller, $CO_2$ laser excision is recommended, especially when aesthetic outcome is considered important.

  • In 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic has brought dramatic changes in the field of engineering education. Contrary to the traditional engineering education emphasis on content-oriented, design-based, hands-on, experimental, and field experience, most of engineering classes in 2020 had to be undertaken remotely online. However, it has not been explored how professors and students perceive about such a shift in engineering education. The aim of the current study was to investigate the perceptions of professors and students on online classes in engineering colleges during spring Semester 2020. Questionnaire data were collected from 100 professors and 4,152 students in the college of engineering. The results of this study were as following: Students were less satisfied with the online classes than professors. The online lecture method that students were most satisfied with was the recorded lecture. This is likely due to the fact that the recorded lectures can be repeated multiple times anytime, anywhere. Moreover, the experimental classes, which conventionally has more of an emphasis on the hands-on experience, also had to be conducted remotely, showing even lower satisfaction among students. Most of professors reported that the average hours they spent on preparing for online lecture increased compared to face-to-face class. Both professors and students preferred in-person exam as a desirable method of end-of-semester assessment for grading. The results of the current study have important implications for the improvement of online course environments. It is important for professors to design a structured class suitable for online education and understand the challenges students encounter during online classes. Also, professors should communicate more openly about their expectations and rubrics for class goals and assignments. Schools also needs to make effort to provide the support for the internet environment of students.

  • Domestic delivery app services are taking a leap forward as the non-face-to-face culture spreads due to the COVID 19 situation and the industrial scale is also growing. In the expanding delivery app service market, we try to verify the structural relationship between variables by empirically analyzing the influencing factors of users' trust in rational and emotional factors. Delivery app service users trust and discriminate parameters in the relationship between rational and emotional factors. Satisfaction according to the trust of a valid delivery app service and service expansion model through word of mouth was designed. It was verified through a hypothesis whether it had an effect, and it can be used as a variety of service strategies for delivery app service users.

  • Contactless service is rapidly emerging as a new growth strategy due to consumers who are reluctant to the face-to-face situation in the global pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), and various technologies are being developed to support the fast-growing contactless service market. In particular, the restaurant industry is one of the most desperate industrial fields requiring technologies for contactless service, and the representative technical case should be a kiosk, which has the advantage of reducing labor costs for the restaurant owners and provides psychological relaxation and satisfaction to the customer. In this paper, we propose a solution to the restaurant's store operation through the unmanned kiosk using a state-of-the-art artificial intelligence (AI) technology of image recognition. Especially, for the products that do not have barcodes in bakeries, fresh foods (fruits, vegetables, etc.), and autonomous restaurants on highways, which cause increased labor costs and many hassles, our proposed system should be very useful. The proposed system recognizes products without barcodes on the ground of image-based AI algorithm technology and makes automatic payments. To test the proposed system feasibility, we established an AI vision system using a commercial camera and conducted an image recognition test by training object detection AI models using donut images. The proposed system has a self-learning system with mismatched information in operation. The self-learning AI technology allows us to upgrade the recognition performance continuously. We proposed a fully automated payment system with AI vision technology and showed system feasibility by the performance test. The system realizes contactless service for self-checkout in the restaurant business area and improves the cost-saving in managing human resources.
