Real Time Discrimination of 3 Dimensional Face Pose (실시간 3차원 얼굴 방향 식별)

  • In this paper, we introduce a new approach for real-time 3D face pose discrimination based on active IR illumination from a monocular view of the camera. Under the IR illumination, the pupils appear bright. We develop algorithms for efficient and robust detection and tracking pupils in real time. Based on the geometric distortions of pupils under different face orientations, an eigen eye feature space is built based on training data that captures the relationship between 3D face orientation and the geometric features of the pupils. The 3D face pose for an input query image is subsequently classified using the eigen eye feature space. From the experiment, we obtained the range of results of discrimination from the subjects which close to the camera are from 94,67%, minimum from 100%, maximum.

A Study on Social Media Advertising of Plastic Surgery Using Eye-Tracking (아이트래킹을 활용한 성형외과 소셜 미디어광고의 시선 추적 연구)

  • According to a survey on the frequency of access to medical ads by the Korea Press Foundation in 2017, the most commonly exposed ads among adult men and women are advertising about beauty, plasticity and obesity. As of 2011, South Korea had the largest number of cosmetic surgeries in the world, with 131 cosmetic surgeries per 10,000 people. As a result, as many as 1,414 plastic surgery clinics are operating in South Korea, and the number is also on the rise. Although there are various standards for evaluating people's appearance, the desire to pursue a better look is growing day by day. Then, one might wonder what factors influence consumers' choices among the numerous advertisements for plastic surgery clinics. Based on these questions, this study identified the examples of plastic surgery advertisements, analyzed their type, and identified the types of advertisements with the high visual appeal of the advertising consumer through eye tracking experiment. In total, seven eye-tracking tests of plastic surgery social media advertisements were conducted on 10 subjects. The results showed that the commercial model was the biggest factor that caught the attraction and attention of the ad recipient first and that the most focused and long-standing factor was the treatment contents. Therefore, it is important to select proper commercial models for hospital and clinic contents and to specify factual treatment contents when producing social media advertisements for plastic surgeons. We hope these findings will help create online advertising for plastic surgery clinics effectively.

Exploring the Analysis of Male and Female Shopper's Visual Attention to Online Shopping Information Contents: Emphasis on Human Brand Image (온라인 쇼핑정보에 대한 남성과 여성 간 시각 주의도 탐색 연구: 휴먼 브랜드 이미지를 중심으로)

  • Shopping information contents shown on online shopping sites represent online retailer's intention to draw potential consumers' visual attention. However, unfortunately, previous studies in literature show that most of the shopping information contents are naively designed just to appeal to consumers' visual attention without systematic and logical analysis of consumers' possible different visual reactions depending on gender. To fill in the research void like this, this study proposes eye-tracking approach to investigating the research issue of how gender affects consumers' visual attention towards human brand image contents on the online shopping sites. For the sake of conducting related eye-tracking experiments, we adopted two types of products - notebook computer as a utilitarian product, and perfume as a hedonic product. Results revealed that female consumers show higher visual attention to human brand image contents than male consumers. Besides, significant gender difference exists on the human brand image contents more highly when they are attached with a hedonic product like perfume, than a utilitarian product like notebook computer. From the eye-tracking-based experiment results like this, this study suggested theoretical backgrounds about gender differences towards online shopping information contents and related human brand image contents as well.

Predictive Characteristics of the Oculomotor System to the Periodic Signal (주기신호에 대한 안구운동의 예측 특성)

  • In this paper, we measured the tracking response time of horizontal eye movement to the target moving according to the square waveform to investigate the predictive characteristics of the human oculomotor system. And in the experiment we used the square waves with an amplitude of 5 degree and frequencies o.1, 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8, 1.0, and 1.2 Hz. Random occurrences of the human eye movement reponse time were analyzed using a finite Markov chain process and we found the results as follows. From both the experimental and theoretical results, we found the trend showing that Predictive characteristics moved from the transient state to the steady state.

  • Based on Nisbett and his colleagues' theoretical model "Holistic" and "Analytic" which show the differences in cognitive style of Eastern Asian and Westerners, the author hypothesized that the differences in cognitive style of people from diverse cultural backgrounds may influence their perception and usage of webpage. An experiment was carried out and the Eye-gaze device was used to assist to explore the relationship. The results revealed the relationship between cognitive style and webpage design. different cognitive style results different viewing pattern on webpage. Chinese people are more likely to have a holistic view of the whole page first and then focus on detail, while French people tend to read the heading information first and then proceeding down the page. Chinese emphasized the background as well as the whole look and feel of the webpage more, while French noticed the independent contents and element designs more on the webpage.

One Boundary Diffusion Model Analysis on Distributions of Eye Fixation Durations in Reading; Eye Movement Tracking Study (우리글 읽기에서 나타난 성인과 청소년의 고정시간 분포분석과 단일경계 확산모형 제안)

  • The aim of this study was to analyze word frequency effects on eye fixation duration in Korean reading with a one-boundary diffusion model and to show how these phenomena differ between adults (20-28yrs) and adolescents (13-14yrs). We predicted that the drift rate parameter in the boundary diffusion model would reflect the information processing of the fovea during silent reading. Through an eye movement tracking experiment while controlling word properties such as the word frequency and the age of acquisition, Experiment 1 and Experiment 2 show that the information processing pertaining to words to be placed in the fovea is connected to the drift rate of the one-boundary diffusion model parameters. In Experiment 1,in the adult group, the mean difference in the fixation time in the response proportion between the presence of high-frequency condition and low-frequency condition in the adult group was higher in quantile 0.9 than it was in the 0.1 quantile, but in the adolescent group, the mean difference in the fixation time in the response proportion between the two conditions was not significantly in the 0.9 quartile.In Experiment 2, the mean difference in the fixation time in the response proportion between early-acquired condition and late-acquired condition in both groups was also higher in the quantile 0.9 than in the 0.1 quantile. The distribution of the two conditions in the both groups was positively skewed, and the difference showed the same pattern found in the results of Ratcliff(Ratcliff & McKoon, 2008). Based on the experimental results, we propose one-boundary diffusion model as a tool to explain word property effects and individual differences in reading. In particular, we suggest that the drift rate parameter in the boundary diffusion model reflects the information processing of the fovea during reading. In addition, the results show that one-boundary diffusion model can be used to predict the aforementioned phenomena in reading.

A Study on the Menu Type of Instrument Cluster IVIS

  • Objective: This research was carried out to study the menu type design of instrument cluster IVIS(In Vehicle Information System) for efficient navigation under deconcentrated situations. Background: A driver controls the IVIS menu using the rest of cognitive resources while driving a car. Although a driver controls the IVIS using extra cognition resources, his or her distraction can still cause some safety problems while driving. Menu type design of instrument cluster is absolutely important for safe and efficient navigation. Method: Four menu types including paging, flow, icon, and list type were identified through reviewing the existing IVIS of vehicle and the menu structure of cellular phone. Four menu types were evaluated through experiment. The experiment consisted of primary and secondary task, which the primary task was to simulate a driving and the secondary task was to control an IVIS menu prototype. Task performances, menu type preferences, and eye-movement patterns were measured in this experiment. Results: The result shows that icon type was the best design in aspect of task performance and preference. A clue for next menu item provided a positive effect for efficient menu navigation. It was identified that most of subjects gazed the middle-top area of IVIS screen from eye-movement pattern. Conclusion: A basic design of Instrument Cluster IVIS was proposed considering the result of this study in the final. Application: The results of this study can be effectively used in the design of Instrument Cluster IVIS.

Gazing on Photographic Image (사진이미지를 향한 응시)

  • Reading a photograph is a process of perceiving the image in it. We are able to approach the intention of the photographer only from the sensory material of the image. To make sure how we see the image when we look at a photo, this paper did an experiment with Robert Doisneau's photo, 'Un Regard Oblique'. The hypothesis was set upon the idea of Mary Ann Doane, a pioneer in Gender study. Eye-tracker, Tobii was used to measure the movements and the fixation lengths of the pupils of 44 subjects. From the results of the experiment, it was verified that people look at photographic image in a certain way. At the same time, the gazing strength was differential on every subjects and subject groups.

A Study on the Analysis of Gaze Characteristic of The Villa Savoye - Based on the Difference between Architecture Major Group and Non-Architecture Major Group (빌라 사보아의 건축입면 주시특성 연구 - 건축 전공자와 비전공자의 차이를 중심으로)

  • The purpose of this study was to determine what rules or patterns exist when people gaze at a villa savoye, which is probably Le Corbusier's best known building, using eye-movement tracking techniques. Villa savoye was designed, addressing his emblematic "Five Points", such as pilotis, functional roofs, free floor plans, long horizontal windows, and freely-designed facades. This study examined how the villa savoye's facade image is formed in an objective manner. This study selected a total of 56 test subjects, and showed them an image of a villa savoye. Using eye-movement tracking tools, this study recorded where they mostly gazed at when seeing the building. In addition, an experiment was carried out to test the different points of view, relating to visual attention, between the two groups with different levels of knowledge in architecture. To analyze the data, the Gaze Frequency was used as the key indicator. The results showed that the subjects have a higher degree of attention to either the door or window in general than in former studies. The architecture major group showed that they gazed the experiment image more evenly.
