  • This research investigated the effects of university library users' use patterns and their recognition of service benefits on the magnitude of service value assessments derived from users' statements using contingent valuation method (CVM). Library users' use patterns were operationalized by the number of library visits, library website visit counts and the degree of dependence on their own libraries. User benefits variables were measured by the level of satisfaction on the benefits of library use for teaching & instruction, research & writings, and employment & external activities. University library services were divided into circulation, journal articles (domestic & foreign), reference service, user education, reading room service and WTPs for each service were measured. The results from hypotheses testing show that the number of library visits affect WTP amounts for circulation, foreign article use, reference service and user education. The degree of library dependence seems to affect WTP amounts for circulation and user education. With regards to the hypotheses related to the recognition of library service benefits, the degree of satisfaction for teaching & instruction benefits seems to affect WTP amounts for reading room use.

  • Background: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of suction drain use following arthroscopic rotator cuff repair by comparing early pain score and range of motion (ROM) between groups with and without suction drains. Methods: The study included 153 patients with rotator cuff tears who underwent arthroscopic repairs at our clinic from April 2014 to March 2015. Following surgery, a suction drain was used in 85 patients (group D) and not used in 68 patients (group ND). There was no statistical difference between the groups in terms of age, gender, or total operation time. The clinical outcome with regard to pain (assessed by pain scores and analgesic requests) and passive ROM was assessed preoperatively and postoperatively. Results: Immediate postoperative analgesic requirement was significantly higher in group D (p=0.001), although there was no difference in pain outcomes between the groups during the 3-month follow-up period. A statistically significant difference in passive ROM was observed at the postoperative 2- and 6-week follow-ups (p=0.036, 0.035, and 0.034 in forward elevation (FE), external rotation at the side (ER) and 90 ER at weeks 2, respectively; 0.045 and 0.009 in FE and ER at weeks 6, respectively); however no significant difference was observed at the end of 3 months. During the study period, no complication was reported in either group. Conclusions: Use of suction drains after arthroscopic rotator cuff repair provided little benefit in terms of ROM or pain in the early postoperative period (up to 3 months).

  • This study analyzes the attitude toward new products through case studies. The contents of the case study applied to the study were analyzed about the attitude of the new product to the recently screened movie "Sanguiwon(the royal tailor)". The court was an institution that oversees the clothes of the royal family in the Chosun Dynasty. In a conservative and closed market environment, attitudes toward acceptance of new products are strongly influenced by internal and external factors. Authoritative and conservative attitudes to secure competitive advantage in existing markets ultimately hamper the acceptance of new products or cause externalities. Eventually, innovative resistance to new products emerges. On the other hand, the acceptance of new products in an open market will form an attitude toward new products, once they form a respectful attitude towards their own benefit or attitude. These market leaders, depending on the way they pursue their values, form an attitude to adhere to their products or accept innovation. The validity of this study was verified through other cases. Ultimately, success in the market for new products suggests that success can only be achieved by understanding the delivery of value to consumers.

  • Recently, due to external environment like the changes in health policy and various healthcare accreditations, along with hospital's internal efforts to improve the quality of medical services, demands for the development of medical information systems are increasing. Some examples are clinical information like DUR (Drug Utilization Review), CVR (Critical Value Report), and automatic benefit processing by treatment purposes, or hospital DSS (Decision Support System) on overall medical practice. Such systems act as a guide in making clinic judgments during practice or in other medical practice, and their effects on the medical treatment improvements are being proven by previous studies. In the reality of increasing attention in the effects of medical treatment improvement, studies related to hospital DDS were mostly focused on clinical, technical, and engineering points of view, and studies focusing on the user viewpoint are very limited. In order to verify the effects of DSS on practice improvements and hospital's management performance, this study used a research model constructed to verify how SERVQUAL of hospital DSS affects hospital management performance in BSC (Balanced Score Card) point of view. To empirically verify the research model, a questionnaire was conducted on the basis of "K-University Hospital's DSS" on clinicians and hospital employees related to system development, and the relationships between the factors were analyzed through path analysis. As a result of path analysis, excluding reactivity, tangibility, confidence, reliability, empathy among service qualities, had partially significant effects on management performance factors (learning and growth, internal process, financial affairs). This study is to prepare the theoretical ground on the management performance analysis of hospital DSS, and suggest the service quality of the system that should be considered in the planning and development stages for improved system.

  • The changed Korean government law associated with the public apartment housing supply, so called the $^{\circ}{\AE}$Apartment Sales Price $Cap^{\circ}{\phi}$, requires new system for estimating construction cost in order to set appropriate price. A model apartment project was carefully designed and its construction cost were analyzed in many different ways. Based on the analyses outcomes, 1,028,000 Won/m2 (excluding cost for underground parking lot) is the most appropriate Price Cap for a smaller than $85{\beta}{\geq}$ apartment unit. Further, it was revealed that the price have to be adjusted reflecting such factors as underground size; structural system; external complex quality; and consumer preferences. Findings from this study will enable the Korean government to realize faster and better application of the related laws. The methodology for obtaining appropriate apartment construction cost will also benefit for future researchers.

  • In fisheries financing before the liberation of Korea, the accommodation of funds through modern monetary facilities was hardly benefited to most of small-scale Korean fishermen except Japanese fishermen living in Korea and some large-scale Korean fishermen. In fact, since Korean economy was only in the beginning stage of capitalism free from natural economy in the end of Yi Dynasty, it was natural that the supply of funds should be lacked. But after the opening of ports in Korea, the external shapes in Korean society were slowly changed according as heteronomous modernization was pushed forward by means of western capitalism and the intentional invasion of Japanese was gradually weighed. Thus all kinds of fishing equipments and technique were developed by dint of modernization, and modern monetary facilities also came into being. But most of Korean fishermen were hardly benefited by modern monetary facilities. Fishermen who were faced with destitution of funds were forced to rely upon high interest loans in order to make a living or maintain fisheries, and they were severely exploited by usurers. The situation was the same in the period of Japanese imperialism. Japanese felt the necessity of advancement of Korean fisheries and established fisheries institution suitable for all kinds of colonial fisheries policy toward Korea so that they could build up the foundation according to the development of capitalism and carry out the Russo-Japanese War and the Sino-Japanese War. There were a series of bottlenecks in financing on account of the deficiency of fisheries institution in the beginning of Japanese imperialism, but the financial pressure was lightened because the arrangement of institution greatly contributed to the smoothness of fisheries financing in the latter part of it. Despite such improvement of financing, the benefit of funds could not equally reach to all the fishermen. It only reached to Japanese fishermen living in Korea and some large scale Korean fishermen. Thus most of korean fishermen could not free themselves from destitution of financing and the pressure of high interest loans. This phenomenon took place because Korean fisheries had the antinomic characteristics that financial restriction was excessive owing to the industrial speciality of fisheries, on the other hand there was a large financial demand in fisheries in the character of industry.

  • The purpose of this study is to find significant activities in human resource management (HRM) to solve growing-pains caused by the rapid external growth in private security business. To this end, we applied the HRM factors suggested by the National Job Capability Standard (NCS) to the private security and investigated the relative importance using the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP). The results were as follows. First, the importance of 4 HRM criteria in the private security was ranked in order of recruitment, operation, benefit, and retirement. Particularly, the relative importance of recruitment reached 63.8%. Second, the composite importance was calculated by dividing the 4 HRM criteria into 14 capability sub-criteria and 46 capability alternatives. As a result, personnel planning and hiring at the recruitment turned out as the areas that needed the most improvement. In addition, the operating and planning of education involved in the highest rank, 8th and 10th respectively. Based on these results, we suggested critical HRM factors for developing the private security business as well as proposed research directions and methods for further studies.
