  • Anatomical comparison of 3 North American species with commercial name of redcedar was executed to provide taxonomic information for prevention of confusion and establishment of sound business transaction in the wood market. Eastern redcedar (Juniperus virginiana) and southern redcedar (Juniperus silicicola) could not be separated on the basis of microstructure and ultrastructure of wood. Western redcedar (Thuja plicata), however, appeared to be obviously separated from eastern and southern redcedar in a number of microscopic and ultramicroscopic features. Useful features for separating these two groups were intercellular spaces in transverse surface, latewood width, radial intertracheid pitting, warty layer and pits with torus extensions in tracheids, ray composition, nodular end walls in ray parenchyma cells, and cross-field pitting.

  • Several interesting and useful extensions of some familiar special functions such as Beta and Gauss hypergeometric functions and their properties have, recently, been investigated by many authors. Motivated mainly by those earlier works, we establish some fractional integral formulas involving the extended generalized Gauss hypergeometric function by using certain general pair of fractional integral operators involving Gauss hypergeometric function $_2F_1$, Some interesting special cases of our main results are also considered.

  • In this paper, we introduce and study a new class containing absolutely summing multilinear mappings and polynomials, which we call multiple weakly summing multilinear mappings and polynomials. We investigate some interesting properties about multiple weakly ($p$; $q_1$, ${\cdots}$, $q_k$)-summing multilinear mappings and polynomials defined on Banach spaces: In particular, we prove a kind of Dvoretzky-Rogers' Theorem and an ideal property for multiple weakly ($p$; $q_1$, ${\cdots}$, $q_k$)-summing multilinear mappings and polynomials. We also prove that the Aron-Berner extensions of multiple weakly ($p$; $q_1$, ${\cdots}$, $q_k$)-summing multilinear mappings and polynomials are also multiple weakly ($p$; $q_1$, ${\cdots}$, $q_k$)-summing.

  • The importance of marketing mix variables, replacement demand, and competition in a new product growth model has been cited by many researchers. In this paper, these factors are integrated with an aim to model company sales of competing durables. Based on the most popular new product growth model, numerous extensions and incorporations of contributions from related research fields are tried. Model parameters are estimated by the Kalman filter. And, the proposed model is applied to the sales of four consumer durable goods. Empirical applications show the benefits, as well as the limitations of the proposed model.

  • This paper proposes a cooperative parallel tabu search which incorporates with the historical information exchange among processors in addition to its own searching of each processor. We investigate the influence of our proposed cooperative parallel tabu search by comparison with a serial tabu search. We also propose two extensions of the cooperative parallel tabu search which are the cooperative construction of tabu memory and the selection of cooperative partner. Through computational experiment, we observe the improvement of solutions by our proposed method.

  • With the MOsES (mask oxide sidewall etch scheme)process which uses the conventional i-line stepper and isotropic wet etching, CMOSFET's with fine gate pattern of 0.1.mu.m CMOSFET device, the screening oxide is deposited before the low energy ion implantation for source/drain extensions and two step sidewall scheme is adopted. Through the characterization of 0.1.mu.m CMOSFET device, it is found that the screening oxide deposition sheme has larger capability of suppressing the short channel effects than two step sidewall schem. In cse of 200.angs.-thick screening oxide deposition, both NMOSFET and PMOSFET maintain good subthreshold characteristics down to 0.1.mu.m effective channel lengths, and show affordable drain saturation current reduction and low impact ionization rates.

  • This paper proposes a generalized NURBS model, called Volumetric NURBS or VNURBS for representing volumetric objects with multiple attributes embedded in multidimensional space. This model provides a mathematical framework for modeling complex structure of heterogeneous objects and analyzing inside of objects to discover features that are directly inaccessible, for deeper understanding of complex field configurations. The defining procedure of VNURBS, which explains two directional extensions of NURBS, shows VNURBS is a generalized volume function not depending on the domain and its range dimensionality. And the recursive a1gorithm for VNURBS derivatives is described as a computational basis for efficient and robust volume modeling. In addition, the specialized versions of VNURBS demonstrate that VNURBS is applicable to various applications such as geometric modeling, volume rendering, and physical field modeling.

  • Some previous linear equations to predict hydrocarbon heats of formation are generalized. The basic molecular descriptors used for the QSPR analysis are atoms and chemcal bonds. This particular choice makes the method extremely simple and quite inexpensive. The predictions for a set of 19 alkenes yield deviations which are similar to experimental uncertainties. Some possible extensions of the method are pointed out.

  • We present improved correlations between theoretical and experimental determination of heat of formation of some aliphatic nitro compounds. The method is based on a previously given theoretical procedure, which is ameliorate through the introduction of suitable bond parameters. The comparison with available experimental data and previous theoretical estimation show a quite satisfactory improvement. Some possible further extensions are pointed out.

  • There are several kinds of fuzzy set extensions in the fuzzy set theory. Among them, this paper is concerned with interval-valued fuzzy sets, intuitionistic fuzzy sets, and bipolar-valued fuzzy sets. In interval-valued fuzzy sets, membership degrees are represented by an interval value that reflects the uncertainty in assigning membership degrees. In intuitionistic sets, membership degrees are described with a pair of a membership degree and a nonmembership degree. In bipolar-valued fuzzy sets, membership degrees are specified by the satisfaction degrees to a constraint and its counter-constraint. This paper investigates the similarities and differences among these fuzzy set representations.
