  • After the successful extension of the rotating planar waveguide model to Wave Optics, where a clear identification between the angular velocity of one hypothetical waveguide and the phase differences between two points on the path of one bounded mode was found, an application of the model to explain the interference theory is presented. We demonstrate that, for two bounded modes to create an interference pattern, a constrain to the relative parameters among both is imposed by the fiber optics. This result, not reported in the literature up to date, provides a new horizon to understand the interaction light-light when propagated within optical fibers.

  • The purpose of the study was to identify the needs assessment for urban agricultural program. The findings were as follows; Citizens at urban cities said that educational program of 'shortage of farming technology education' should be developed, and wanted to be given 'farming technology' of urban agriculture education area more than other education areas. The citizens asked for urban agricultural program with both theories and practice education than existing urban agricultural program that relied upon basic theory education. And, they wanted urban agricultural program that was based on 'farming technology' to consist of practice education and theory education at the ratio of 80 and 20 and to be professional and differentiated. The citizens preferred 3 to 6 months of education period the most, and more than 95 percent of them wanted to join the program when it is developed.

  • This paper proposes and validates the extension of two models, previously formulated for the evaluation of the shear strength of reinforced concrete members with un-corroded reinforcements, to the case of beams with corroded stirrups. These extended models are based on the plasticity theory (this model has been proposed in the past by one of the authors) and on the simplified modified compression field theory. The response of these models is compared with that of the compression chord capacity model, which has recently been embedded with modifications that simulate the effects of steel corrosion. These latter modifications are first discussed and then introduced into the other two models. An existing database of slender and non-slender beams tested in laboratory by other researchers is revised and improved. Finally, all the considered models are applied to the selected specimens and a comparison is drawn between the shear strength resulting from the considered models and the shear strength resulting from the laboratory tests. The effects of corrosion on some important parameters of the ultimate shear response of the reinforced concrete beams are also discussed.

  • One of the characteristics of the last four decades after 'World War II', was the 'discovery of famine' in the underdeveloped country, like Korea. A flurry of activities followed this sad discovery. Countless organizations and programs were set up to fight poverty and to combat famine in rural sector. In these days, the dominant development theory was 'modernization theory' which have gratuitously assumed that third world countries are like western countries are, and respond to the same stimuli as western countries do, although third world countries have completely different cultures, traditions, and mentality from western countries. Among the many problems caused by 'modernization theory', this research focused on the noel environmental problems. In the West the discovery of nature and its progressive control by means of science and technology are phenomena. Modem progress born in the West and carried to the rest of the world is not integrally positive and therefore can't be identified with the internal development of man and nature. As a result, the so-called modernization of Korea and other countries is contributing to the degradation of the nature and environment. It is important to give up the illusion that the fight against famine is a simple matter that could be solved through the imitation of western countries. It is also necessary to abandon the belief that the earth as a reservoir of unlimited resources, there to be exploited ad hoc for mankind's survival. Man-environment relationship must, essentially, be one of mutualism and not a case of survival of the fittest: In other words, man's survival is directly related to the survival of the earth and its resources.

  • This study is about the effect of original brand on the evaluation of extended brand in the policy of an enterprise's extending its brand. More specifically, this study investigated to see whether the customers' attitude toward original brand has effect on an extended brand and the width and similarity extent of the brand extension affect a brand which is not similar when another brand is extended. The summary of the demonstrative analysis results are as follows: 1. If the attitude toward original brand becomes more positive, the evaluation of the extended brand will become more positive as well. 2. If the attitude toward original brand becomes more positive, the width of a brand extension will become wider. 3. If customers' attitude toward a original brand is positive, their attitude toward an extended brand will be positive as well although the extended brand is not similar to the original brand. This study proved it is possible for brands to be extended from a original brand under the influence of the original brand even though they are weak in their similarity to their original brand unlike the existing theory which was skeptical about the extension of a brand which is low in its similarity to its original brand and that the success of the extension of a brand does not depend upon its similarity to its original brand.

  • Purpose - This study examines the strength of sadness and the belief it will last, as regards the effects of the degree of self-extension to the sad-evoking event on choice behavior related to self-control dilemmas. Research Design, Data, and Methodology - In an experiment involving high and low self-extension groups, 261 undergraduates answered self-administered questionnaires. The hypotheses were tested using AMOS 19.0 and path analysis. Results - The positive relationship between the degree of self-extension to the sad-evoking event and hedonic vs. utilitarian food choices was mediated by the belief that the sadness will last. There is a significant indirect path from the degree of self-extension (to the sad-evoking event) to the strength of the sadness, and to the belief that it will last with respect to hedonic vs. utilitarian food choices. Conclusions - These results show that beliefs about sad emotion transience depend on both the degree of self-extension to the sad-evoking event and the strength of sadness, and that the belief that sad emotions are transient makes sad people susceptible to temptation when facing self-control related dilemmas.

  • The notion of generalized intuitionistic fuzzy soft set theory is proposed. Our generalized intuitionistic fuzzy soft set theory is a combination of the generalized intuitionistic fuzzy set theory and the soft set theory. In other words, our generalized intuitionistic fuzzy soft set theory is an extension of the intuitionistic fuzzy soft set theory. The complement, "and" and "or" operations are defined on the generalized intuitionistic fuzzy soft sets. Their basic properties for the generalized intuitionistic fuzzy soft sets are also presented and discussed.

  • The objective of this work is to develop the capability to analyze accurately the mixed-mode propagation of a crack in composite structures with elastic orthotropic material stiffness properties and anisotropic material strength characteristics. We employ the normal stress ratio theory to predict the direction of crack extension. It is shown that the angle of crack extension can be altered by the use of second order term in the series expansion is important for the accurate determination of crack growth direction.

  • New fixed Point results for the (equation omitted) selfmaps ale given. The analysis relies on a factorization idea. The notion of an essential map is also introduced for a wide class of maps. Finally, from a new fixed point theorem of ours, we deduce some equilibrium theorems.
