  • This paper empirically examines what role of existing exporters play in the discovery of new export products and whether there are evidence of spillovers from export discovery. We find that existing exporters are more likely to discover new export products than non-exporters. We also find evidence of export discovery spillovers; export discovery of a product by some plants had an effect of increasing the probability of subsequent export market penetration of the same product by other plants. Export discovery spillovers are found to be stronger among geographically closely located plants. We argue that information spillovers is a part of the story: you learn from your neighboring discoverers about the profitability of potentially exportable products.

  • Changes of a port's market share in the exports of domestic ports result from many interrelated factors. Therefore, the analysis of the export performance of a port should be put in perspective by analysing long periods to identify trends. This paper aims to show the development of competitiveness, product and geographical structure of the Busan Port's merchandise exports from 1995 to 2012 using constant-market shares (CMS) analysis. This article is relevant for Busan port because its export market shares have been showing disappointing path. The dynamic consideration of the CMS analysis, which the static indicators have been replaced by time series, helps to track all changes in the export structure and competitiveness of the Busan port over time. The long-term trend of the indicators suggests that it may be very hard for the Busan port to maintain its market share in the global environment. The advantage in competitiveness of the Busan port has vanished and the product and geographical structure effects show negative trends after 1995, pointing to vulnerability in the Busan port's exports.

A research construct is suggested for effective government support program targeted on the global marketing capability. The data is collected from the firms received the support more than once by Korean governments. The results are shown as follows. Second, the firms with high global marketing capability have shown good performance. To be more specific, organizational commitment, strategic initiative, business differentiation, and market knowledge for target markets are found to be critical factors in successful export support program. The business differentiation strategy in target market is very critical. Finally, the degree of program management effectiveness is found to be important in high performance firms. • In this study, I empirically analyzed the factors affecting export performance with domestic ICT companies. I set up 3 variables - companies' factors, marketing factors and factors of export supporting system - as the factors affecting export performance, based on findings of precedent studies; and I set up non-financial performance as a dependent variable. As a result of analysis, I found out that companies' factors(market orientation of CEO, competitiveness in export, experience of export) and marketing factors(diversification of overseas market, barriers to marketing), among the variables affecting export performance, were the variables affecting non-financial performance, set up as the export performance; but the factors of awareness, availability and difficulty, set up as the detail factor among factors of export supporting system, do not affect non-financial performance.

  • Korea exported the passenger cars(HS 8703) such as key export item 41billion dollars in 2011. But the Korea's representative enterprises which bound forward in the global markets, have a tough time in the Japanese markets alone, and especially, they hardly sell key items such as automobiles. Japan is the third largest automobile market sold annually 5 millions, despite its long-term depression. At this time of point, analyzing the competition structure of the automobile market and proposing the strategies of the Korean enterprises's export to Japan would be a great academic contribution. This study analyzed the Japanese automobile market by the method of upper enterprises' Concentration Ratio($CR_k$) based on J. S. Bain's SCP paradigm and the literature study on the characteristics of the Japanese market by Itami Hiroyuki. As a result, in the Japanese automobile market, it is very likely that there exist market dominating enterprises, but at the same time, the movement of change also could be grasped between Japanese car makers. Accordingly, the cross-leveraging distribution strategy, brand strategy and Japan specification(designed for Japan) development strategy of the Korean enterprises' export to Japan which can respond to the change of the Japanese automobile markets were proposed.

  • In 1990s, both development of internet and digital economy would make new products such as digital goods. Recently, digital goods composed of softwares, digital contents, and digital services have grown up rapidly in the world market. Characteristics of goods and transaction forms in the international trade of digital goods is different from those of traditional goods. Thus, this difference would appear a new risk that did not exist in the international trade of traditional goods. Identification and confirmation about unique export risks of digital goods would be necessary to the increase of export of digital goods needs; however, in spite of the importance, very few studies have been based on the export risks of digital goods particularly in research on the relationships between export risk management and export performance. This study classifies the types of export risks based on the previous studies, and examines the relationship between both management and identification of export risks.
