Rule Extraction from Neural Networks : Enhancing the Explanation Capability

  • This paper presents a rule extraction algorithm RE to acquire explicit rules from trained neural networks. The validity of extracted rules has been confirmed using 6 different data sets. Based on experimental results, we conclude that extracted rules from RE predict more accurately and robustly than neural networks themselves and rules obtained from an inductive learning algorithm do. Rule extraction algorithm for neural networks are important for incorporating knowledge obtained from trained networks into knowledge based systems. In lieu of this, the proposed RE algorithm contributes to the trend toward developing hybrid and versatile knowledge-based system including expert systems and knowledge-based decision su, pp.rt systems.

  • The ECQV(Elliptic Curve Qu-Vanstone) is a implicit certificate scheme based on ECC(Elliptic Curve Cryptography). Implicit certificates are smaller and faster than a traditional explicit certificate. Therefore, it can be used in a memory or bandwidth constraint communication environments. Also, the butterfly key expansion algorithm is a method to issue many certificates by using only one public key. In this study, by applying the butterfly key expansion algorithm to ECQV, we suggest a new useful issuing certificate method that can be used in vehicular communication environments.

  • This study presents an effective dual algorithm for the optimal design of steel structures with displacement constraints. The dual method can replace a primary optimization problem with a sequence of approximate explicit subproblems with a simple algebraic structure. Since being convex and separable, each subproblem can be solved efficiently by the dual method. Specifically, this study uses the principle of virtual work to obtain the displacement constraint equations with an explicit form and adds the linear regression equation expressing the relationships between the cross-section properties to the dual algorithm to reduce the number of design variables. Furthermore, this study deals with the discrete optimization problem to select members with the standard steel sections. Through numerical analyses, the proposed method will be compared with the conventional optimality criteria method.

A Comparison Analysis of Various Approaches to Multidimensional Scaling in Mapping a Knowledge Domain's Intellectual Structure (지적 구조 분석을 위한 MDS 지도 작성 방식의 비교 분석)

  • There has been many studies representing intellectual structures with multidimensional scaling(MDS) However MDS configuration is limited in representing local details and explicit structures. In this paper, we identified two components of MDS mapping approach; one is MDS algorithm and the other is preparation of data matrix. Various combinations of the two components of MDS mapping are compared through some measures of fit. It is revealed that the conventional approach composed of ALSCAL algorithm and Euclidean distance matrix calculated from Pearson's correlation matrix is the worst of the compared MDS mapping approaches. Otherwise the best approach to make MDS map is composed of PROXSCAL algorithm and z-scored Euclidean distance matrix calculated from Pearson's correlation matrix. These results suggest that we could obtain more detailed and explicit map of a knowledge domain through careful considerations on the process of MDS mapping.

  • A new ER feedback switch control algorithm, called EMRCA(Explicit Max-min Rate Control Algorithm), to control the ABR services traffic in the ATM networks, is proposed in this thesis. This scheme was interpreted the ACR variation residing on between a transient state and a stable state using the two thresholds that is the $TH_{high}$ and $TH_{low}$ in the queue to detect switch nodes congestion, and decreased the difference of minimum and maximum ACR all active connection to enhance the line bandwidth utilization. The proiposed scheme used a minimum and maximum rate of all active connections to select the connection whose the congestion rate inveoked, and uses a congestion detection mechanixm to prevent some potential cogestion by regulating selected contection.s The EMRCA scheme showed ACR variation more stable that the EPRCA scheme, also reduced buffer size of the switch, and achieved higher link utilization than the EPRCA scheme.

  • In HMIPv6, the nested mobile network because of the mobility of node and router can be constituted. Many subnets exist and many mobile router(MR)s and mobile node(MN)s activate in the nested mobile network. If the nested depth is deeper, the number of mobile router that packet goes through, increases and data transmission delay owing to this might be larger. This paper proposes EPA algorithm which finds out the path from Mobility Anchor Point(MAP) to a destination mobile node using the binding cache information of MAP and processes the path information by adding it to packet header. If we apply EAP algorithm, the quantity of unnecessary packet within MAP domain can be decreased. Also, the transmission delay can be decreased in a intermediate mobile router because it supports packet re-transmission just by simple packet substitution.

  • While the SIMPLE algorithm is most widely used for the simulations of flow phenomena that take place in the industrial equipments or the manufacturing processes, it is less adopted for the simulations of the free surface flow. Though the SIMPLE algorithm is free from the limitation of time step, the free surface behavior imposes the restriction on the time step. As a result, the explicit schemes are faster than the implicit scheme in terms of computation time when the same time step is applied to, since the implicit scheme includes the numerical method to solve the simultaneous equations in its procedure. If the computation time of SIMPLE algorithm can be reduced when it is applied to the unsteady free surface flow problems, the calculation can be carried out in the more stable way and, in the design process, the process variables can be controlled based on the more accurate data base. In this study, a modified SIMPLE algorithm is presented fur the free surface flow. The broken water column problem is adopted for the validation of the modified algorithm (MoSIMPLE) and for comparison to the conventional SIMPLE algorithm.

  • In this paper, we present an algorithm for computing the number of points on the Jacobian varieties of one-dimensional family of genus 3 nonhyperelliptic curves over finite fields. We also provide the explicit formula of the characteristic polynomial of the Frobenius endomorphism of the Jacobian of $C:y^3=x^4+{\alpha}$ over a finite field $\mathbb{F}_p$ with $p{\equiv}1$ (mod 3) and $p{\neq}1$ (mod 4). Moreover, we give some implementation results using Gaudry-Schost method. A 162-bit order is computed in 97 s on a Pentium IV 2.13 GHz computer using our algorithm.

  • A dynamic explicit finite element code for simulating sheet forming processes has been developed The code utilises the discrete Kirchhoff shell element and contact force is treated by a conventional penalty method. In order to reduce the computational cost a new and robust contact searching algorithm has been developed and implemented into the code. in the method a hierarchical structure of tool segments called a tree structure is built for each tool at the initial stage of the analysis Tree is built in a way to divide a trunk to 8 sub-trunk 2 in each direction until the lowest level of the tree(leaf) contains exactly one segment of the tool. In order to have a well-balanced tree each box on each sub level contains one eighth of the segments. Then at each time step contact line from a node comes out of the surface of the tool. Simulation of various sheet forming processes were performed to verify the validity of the developed code with main focus on he usefulness of the developed contact searching algorithm.

  • 폭발하중은 매우 짧은 시간 내에 순간적인 높은 압력으로 발생된다. 따라서 폭발하중을 받는 구조물은 매우 복잡한 순간 동역학적 손상 거동을 나타낸다. 이러한 외부 하중에 대한 실험적 연구는 큰 비용, 시설, 그리고 군사적 보안 문제가 요구되기 때문에, 고성능 컴퓨팅 기술을 이용한 수치적 기법을 통해 구조물의 동적 비선형 해석을 수행하였다. 수치해석의 정확성을 높이기 위해 폭풍파와 같은 대기전파의 경우 Euler 기법, 콘크리트 재료의 경우 Lagrange 기법을 적용한 복합적 수치해석 (multi-solver coupling) 기법이 적용되었다. 제안된 수치해석 기법은 explicit 유한요소해석 프로그램인 AUTODYN을 이용하여 수행되었다. 그리고 클러스터 (cluster) 내 병렬 알고리즘 (parallel algorithm)을 이용하여 수치해석의 효율성을 높였다. RC 구조물의 수치해석 결과, 기존 실험 결과와 비교하여 잘 일치되었다. 또한 영역분할 개수가 증가할수록 수행시간은 감소되었고 Speed-up과 효율성은 높아졌다.
