  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the properties of concrete with the kinds and addition of expansive additives. 2 kinds of expansive additives produced in our country and 0, 10, 20, 30, 40% of ratio of addition rate are selected for this experiment. According to experimental results, flow, slump and air rate of concrete with expansive additives is nearly same with its of plain concrete and compressive strength, tensile strength of concrete with expansive additives at 28 days is higher than that of plain concrete. Therefore, The expansion concrete is able to manufactured so it consumes by restricted effects.

  • The silencers are used to attenuate noise generated by the exhaust fan for industrial processes. The types of silencers applied in this study are absorptive duct silencer, expansion chamber, absorptive chamber and resonator. This study was carried out to verify the attenuation by the various silencers and elements. As a result, the difference of attenuation between the calculation and the measurement was about 1-7㏈. The attenuation by absorptive duct silencer and absorptive chamber was negligible at frequencies below 250Hz. The expansion chamber should be used for low frequency applications where the absorptive duct silencer was Ineffective. The attenuation by resonator may be realised when the ratio of frequency to resonant frequency approaches 1.

  • If XML queries are expanded based on ontology, broader search may be possible. On the other hand, queries that are not adequate to target documents may also degrade the search efficiency. We try to improve query adequacy by expanding query based on a reduced ontology, which is the result of ontology and target DTD match. The match considers ontology concepts and DTD elements as well as ontology and DTD attributes. Since the reduced ontology can improve the hit ratio of queries and also be successively reusable for XML documents of a kind, the proposed method can improve XML search efficiency.

  • In this study the mechanical behaviors of fiber metal laminates(FMLs) such as ARALL, GLARE and CARE which are recently developed as new structural materials and known to have excellent fatigue resistant characteristics while with relatively low densities compared to the conventional aluminum materials, are considered through the classical lamination theory. The mechanical properties such as elastic moduli, thermal expansion coefficients and hygro-thermally induced residual stresses in the fiber metal laminates are obtained and compared each other. Also, carpet plots of effective elastic moduli, Poisson's ratio and the thermal expansion coefficient for GLARE FML are plotted.

  • The interaction of head waves with an infinite row of identical, equally spaced, rectangular breakwaters is investigated in the presence of uneven bottom topography. Using linear water wave theory and matched eigenfunction expansion method, the boundary value problem is transformed into a system of linear algebraic equations which are numerically solved to know the velocity potentials completely. Utilizing this method, reflected and transmitted wave energy are computed for different physical parameters along with the wave field in the vicinity of breakwaters. It is observed that the wave field becomes more complicated when the incoming wavelength becomes smaller than the channel width. A critical ratio of the gap width to the channel width, corresponding to the inflection point of the transmitted energy variation, is identified for which 1/3 of the total energy is transmitted. Similarly, depending on the incident wavelength, there is a critical breakwater width for which a minimum energy is transmitted. Further, the accuracy of the computed results is verified by using the derived energy relation.

  • A semi-analytical solution to responses of overconsolidated (OC) unsaturated soils surrounding an expanding spherical cavity under constant suction condition is presented. To capture the elastoplastic hydro-mechanical property of OC unsaturated soils, the unified hardening (UH) model for OC unsaturated soil is adopted in corporation with a soil-water characteristic curve (SWCC) and two suction yield surfaces. Taking the specific volume, radial stress, tangential stress and degree of saturation as the four basic unknowns, the problem investigated is formulated by solving a set of first-order ordinary differential equations with the help of an auxiliary variable and an iterative algorithm. The present solution is validated by comparing with available solution based on the modified Cam Clay (MCC) model. Parametric studies reveal that the hydraulic and mechanical responses of spherical cavity expanding in unsaturated soils are not only coupled, but also affected by suction and overconsolidation ratio (OCR) significantly. More importantly, whether hydraulic yield will occur or not depends only on the initial relationship between suction yield stress and suction. The presented solution can be used for calibration of some insitu tests in OC unsaturated soil.

  • Steam ejector systems are widely used for the evacuation systems because of their high working confidence and simlicity. And recently these are used as the thermo-compressors in various energy saving systems. In this practical experiment, we have obtained the results as follows : (1) The velocity coefficient of the motive steam nozzle was 0.92-0.98. (2) The optimal area ratio was 0.00625 at pressure ratio 5.2 and expansion ratio 101.3. (3) The performance and efficiency of the steam ejector were mainly affected by the axial position of nozzle. (4) The good performance of the domestic manufactured steam ejector was confirmed in comparison with the foreign one. And by experimental results, we have carried out the improvement of Computer Aided Design Program of steam ejector which will be helpful for systematic research into the steam ejector.

  • Recently, very-early strength latex-modified concrete(below ; VES-LMC) has been developed for repairing and overlaying the old concrete bridge deck. Early-age defects in high-performance concrete due to thermal and autogenous deformation shorten the life cycle of concrete structures. Thus, it is necessary to examine the behavior of early-age concrete at the stages of design and construction. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the autogenous shrinkage of VES-LMC, having an experimental variables such as retarder and water-cement ratio. The greater the retarder content in VES-LMC, the greater the expansion at early-age. This recommend the small retarder content as possible. The effect of water-cement ratio on early-age behavior is very small, because of the wrapped specimen in order to prevent water evaporation.

  • Three full-scale instrumented test slabs were constructed and tested using a heavy vehicle simulator (HVS) to evaluate the structural behavior of internally cured concrete (ICC) for use in pavements under Florida condition. Three mix designs selected from a previous laboratory testing program include the standard mixture with 0.40 water-cement ratio, the ICC with 0.32 water-cement ratio, and the ICC mixture with 0.40 water-cement ratio. Concrete samples were prepared and laboratory tests were performed to measure strength, elastic modulus, coefficient of thermal expansion and shrinkage properties. The environmental responses were measured using strain gages, thermocouples, and linear variable differential transformers instrumented in full-scale concrete slabs. A 3-D finite element model was developed and calibrated using strain data measured from the full-scale tests using the HVS. The results indicate that the ICC slabs were less susceptible to the change of environmental conditions and appear to have better potential performance based on the critical stress analysis.

  • Doubly-selective channel estimator for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing(OFDM) systems is proposed in this paper. Based on the generalized complex exponential basis expansion model(GCE-BEM), we describe the time-variant channel with time-invariant coefficients over multiple OFDM blocks. The time variation of the channel destroys the orthogonality between subcarriers, and the resulting channel matrix in the frequency domain is no longer diagonal, but the main interference comes from the near subcarriers. Based on this, we propose a channel estimator with low pilot ratio. We first develop a least-square(LS) estimator under the assumption that only the maximum Doppler frequency and the channel order are known at the receiver, and then verify that the correlation matrix of inter-channel interference(ICI) is a scaled identity matrix based on which we derive an optimal pilot insertion scheme for the LS estimator in the sense of minimum mean square error. The proposed estimator has the advantages of low pilot ratio and robustness against inter-carrier interference.
