A PRIORI L2 ERROR ANALYSIS FOR AN EXPANDED MIXED FINITE ELEMENT METHOD FOR QUASILINEAR PSEUDO-PARABOLIC EQUATIONS

  • Based on an expanded mixed finite element method, we consider the semidiscrete approximations of the solution u of the quasilinear pseudo-parabolic equation defined on ${\Omega}{\subset}R^d$, $1{\leq}d{\leq}3$. We construct the semidiscrete approximations of ${\nabla}u$ and $a(u){\nabla}u+b(u){\nabla}u_t$ as well as u and prove the existence of the semidiscrete approximations. And also we prove the optimal convergence of ${\nabla}u$ and $a(u){\nabla}u+b(u){\nabla}u_t$ as well as u in $L^2$ normed space.

NETLA Based Optimal Synthesis Method of Binary Neural Network for Pattern Recognition

  • This paper describes an optimal synthesis method of binary neural network for pattern recognition. Our objective is to minimize the number of connections and the number of neurons in hidden layer by using a Newly Expanded and Truncated Learning Algorithm (NETLA) for the multilayered neural networks. The synthesis method in NETLA uses the Expanded Sum of Product (ESP) of the boolean expressions and is based on the multilayer perceptron. It has an ability to optimize a given binary neural network in the binary space without any iterative learning as the conventional Error Back Propagation (EBP) algorithm. Furthermore, NETLA can reduce the number of the required neurons in hidden layer and the number of connections. Therefore, this learning algorithm can speed up training for the pattern recognition problems. The superiority of NETLA to other learning algorithms is demonstrated by an practical application to the approximation problem of a circular region.

  • Recntly many devics print electronic images in a variety of ways. But the reproduced color, gamut mappung method and expanded nonlinear quantization are proposed. The color gamut mapping uses saturation mapping of HSI color space. Dithering operation for printing uses expanded nonlinear quantization which considers overlapping phenomena of neighboring printing dots. So the printed image is similar to the image of monitor and can produce high quality image in the low bit color devices.

  • The hold-type display panel such as a liquid crystal displays(LCD) has problem of motion blur. The problem can be improved by a Frame Rate-up Conversion(FRC) using a frame interpolation. We propose a Motion Estimation(ME) by using adaptively expanded block based on frame difference for PRC. The proposed method is executed using an adaptively expanded block in order to get more accurate motion vector. By using frame difference, we can reduce complexity more significantly than conventional methods. We use quantitative analysis in order to evaluate experimental results. The results show that the proposed method has better performance and lower complexity than conventional methods.

  • The 2-step manufacturing method consisting of preforming and stamping processes was developed to manufacture composite bipolar plates for PEMFCs. The preform was composed of expanded graphite, graphite flake and phenol resin. Precuring conditions were optimized by checking the electrical conductivity, flexural strength and microstructure. Precuring temperature ($100^{\circ}C$) slightly above the melting point of phenol powders ($90^{\circ}C$) induced moderate curing, but also prevented excessive curing. Preforms utilizing the tangled structure of expanded graphite were easily fabricated at low pressure of 0.07-0.28MPa. The proper precuring time, 5min, was determined to fabricate the preform stably because insufficient and excessive precuring deteriorated the flexural strength of composite bipolar plates.

  • In this paper we derive a priori $L^{\infty}(L^2)$ error estimates for expanded mixed finite element formulations of semilinear Sobolev equations. This formulation expands the standard mixed formulation in the sense that three variables, the scalar unknown, the gradient and the flux are explicitly treated. Based on this method we construct finite element semidiscrete approximations and fully discrete approximations of the semilinear Sobolev equations. We prove the existence of semidiscrete approximations of u, $-{\nabla}u$ and $-{\nabla}u-{\nabla}u_t$ and obtain the optimal order error estimates in the $L^{\infty}(L^2)$ norm. And also we construct the fully discrete approximations and analyze the optimal convergence of the approximations in ${\ell}^{\infty}(L^2)$ norm. Finally we also provide the computational results.

  • This paper describes an optimal synthesis method of binary neural network(BNN) for an approximation problem of a circular region and synthetic image having four class using a newly proposed learning algorithm. Our object is to minimize the number of connections and neurons in hidden layer by using a Newly Expanded and Truncated Learning Algorithm(NETLA) based on the multilayer BNN. The synthesis method in the NETLA is based on the extension principle of Expanded and Truncated Learning (ETL) learning algorithm using the multilayer perceptron and is based on Expanded Sum of Product (ESP) as one of the boolean expression techniques. The number of the required neurons in hidden layer can be reduced and fasted for learning pattern recognition.. The superiority of this NETLA to other algorithms was proved by simulation.

  • We propose a new graphical method for selecting a pair of optical and housing materials to simultaneously athermalize and achromatize an LWIR optical system. To have a much better opportunity to select the IR glasses and housing materials, an athermal glass map is expanded by introducing the DOE with negative chromatic power. Additionally, from the depth of focus in an LWIR optical system, the tolerable housing boundary is provided to realize an athermal and achromatic system even for not readily available housing material. Thus, we can effectively determine a pair of optical and housing materials by reducing the thermal shift to be less than the depth of focus. By applying this method to design a night vision camera lens, the chromatic and thermal defocuses are reduced to less than the depth of focus, over the specified waveband and temperature ranges.

  • Based upon the results of numerical calculation, empirical scaling equations were made for supersonic under-expanded jets in both axisymmetric and two dimensional flows. The objective of the present study is to find a straightforward method that can predict the under-expanded supersonic jets issuing from various kinds of nozzles. The present empirical equations were agreed with the calculation results of total variation diminishing difference scheme. The supersonic under-expanded jets operating at a given pressure ratio could be well predicted by the present scaling equations.
