  • According to the developement of cities, electric wires and commuinication lines which are currently above the ground effect on the bad. Nowadays, it is necessary to build up underground facilities because the construction is increasing. Excavation work has been dominant even though the inconvenient things occurred, for example a civil appeal, a traffic obstacle, safety and spoiling the fine view because of the cost or period of the construction work. But the congestion of cities are more and more serious. Therefore shield-method is the way to escape from congestion. I considered all the construction fields which are in progress or finished.

Application of New Back Analysis Method for Landslide around Portal (터널 갱구부 주변의 산사태를 고려한 역해석법에 관한 검토)

  • The author conducted new back analysis method using monitoring data to a landslide which occurred around portal. In this case, because the tunnel being located under the sliding plane of the landslide, calculated value from the ordinary back analysis in which considered only stress release by the tunnel excavation didn't fit the measured value. Then, in the new method, a body force as the movement of the landslide mass was added to the ordinary back analysis and good results were obtained. Furthermore, the author carried out stability analysis of the landslide with the data of the back analysis and examined the loosened area and decreasing og the sliding plane strength due to the tunnel excavation.

  • This paper presents the case studies of Tubular Roof construction Method(T.R.c.M) and Semi Shield method, which were applied to the tunnel excavation under the pre-existing railways. It was proved that T.R.c.M was an effective and safe method for the tunnel excavated in soft soil, giving little damage to the railways located a few meters above. Semi Shield was also performed successfully to bore a tunnel in soft and hard rock, minimizing the ground settlement and tilting of vulnerable fuel tanks. Site and soil conditions are also discussed, which led these relatively new methods to success. Finally, comparison of the measurement results and the design values are made to verify and improve the current design practice.

  • The earth retaining wall systems for excavation works in a populated urban area or a poor soil deposit can be limited due to various restriction. Thus there are various methods to be applied for them such as the soldier pile method, the diaphragm wall with counterfort and so on. In this study, the self-supported earth retaining wall using the DCM(Deep Cement Mixing) method, including its merits, demerits and some important characteristics occured in the design and the construction stage, was introduced. It might be reference for the other design and construction procedures using the DCM method.

  • The paper focuses on the establishment of optimized bucket path planning and trajectory control designated for force-reflecting backhoe reacting to excavation environment, such as potential obstacles and ground characteristics. The developed path planning method can be used for precise bucket control, and more importantly for obstacle avoidance which is directly related to safety issues. The platform of this research was based on conventional papers regarding the kinematic model of excavator. Jacobian matrix was constructed to find optimal joint angles and rotation angles of bucket from position and orientation data of excavator. By applying Newton-Raphson method optimal joint angles and bucket orientation were derived simultaneously in the way of minimizing positional errors of excavator. The model presented in this paper was intended to function as a cornerstone to build complete and advanced path planning of excavator by implementing soil mechanics and further study of excavator dynamics together.

  • The prediction of quality characteristics during the design phase of a construction project was fragmented, because no particular method exists. One of the most important key responses is the total displacements (horizontal and vertical). A brainstorming session produces the quality parameters i.e. the control factors which here are identified as: the steel joint, the pile's length, the excavation depth and angle, the distance between the piles, the anchor stretch and length to name just some of the most engaging in the design. The purpose of this study is to optimise these parameters to minimize the total displacements following a methodology based on Taguchi method. For this reason, a 2-level, L8 orthogonal array has been employed to organize the experimentation. Data is obtained from a real-life excavation project designed on the Plaxis v.8 CAE package. Taguchi analysis is performed in the statistical package Minitab.

  • Due to civil complaints on vibrations and noises arising from blasting, mechanical excavation has been widely used for tunneling rather than the method of blasting, especially in the case of being in a close-proximity of 10M-20M range to a safety-thing. However, mechanical excavation, though less, it does increase the cost of whole construction project as the period of excavation is much prolonged from lack of constructability. This study aims to research and develop an effective blasting method that can ensure the constructability of shortened excavation period whilst not compromising the safety of the safety-things in a proximity to the blasting site by using a combination of an electronic detonator that can accurately control its delay period and a Low Vibration Explosives(LoVEX) that is effective on vibration control.

  • The tunnel type spillways is under construction to increasing water reservoir capacity in Dae-am dam. Cutting-slope adjacent to outlet of spillways had been originally designed to be 63 degrees and about 65m in height. Examination is carried out in preceding construction that it is caused to some problems possibility which of machine for slope cutting couldn't approach to the site, blasting for cutting slope might have negative influence on highway and roads nearby, and fine view along the Tae-hwa river would be eliminated. In order to establish stability of tunnel and more friendly natural environment that we are carry out detailed geological surface survey and analysis of slope stability. So, we are design and construct for tunnel excavation with possible method that it is keep up natural slope. The result of survey and analysis that natural slope was divided 3 zone(A, B, C zone). In A and B zone, in first removed floating rock, high tensile tension net is install that it prevent of release and falling of rock, in order to security during under working. In addition to, pre-stressed rock anchor is install purpose of security during tunnel excavation because of fault zone near vertical developed above excavation level. Zone C is relatively good condition of ground, design is only carry out random rock bolt. All zone are designed and constructed drainage hole for groundwater and surface water is easily drain. Desinged slpoe is harmony with near natural environment. Successfully, construction is completed.
