  • The purpose of this paper is to examine the visual evaluation structure about the formal changes of streetscape by the different moving speed in two alternative control plans for the building height and the setback regulation. The virtual reality system is applied to the experimental tool. Eighty-two experimental models are made in consideration of the height and the setback of the building regulation cased by Midou-suji street in Osaka City, Japan. and ten typical models are selected by pre-experiment. Since the changes of the landscape structure consists of the height and the setback of the building, four the evaluation items are set: grade of continuity, order, openness, preference. As there are eighty-two landscape models which are too many to be applied in this experiment, ten role models are drawn out and used in this experiment. The mean difference test, discriminant analysis, and multiple linear regression methods had been used for the statistical analysis methods. The results of this study are as follows; 1) It is found out the fact of the difference evaluation structure amount experiments models. 2) From the sketch analysis and interview, it is found out difference cognition structure by the moving speed and alternatives. 3) From the discriminant and regression analysis, it is found out that the evaluation value about continuity becomes low by the moving speed change from walking speed to driving speed. We suggest that continuous experiment should be made with a variety of groups and models, and general and universal results should also be come out of the experiments above.

  • As a part of International Criticality Safety Benchmark Evaluation Project (ICSBEP), SAXTON critical experiments were reevaluated. The effects on $K_{eff}$ of the uncertainties in experiment parameters, fuel rod characterization, soluble boron, critical water level, core structure, $^{241}$ Am and $^{241}$ Pu isotope number densities, random pitch error, duplicated experiment, axial fuel position, model simplification, etc., were evaluated and added in benchmark-model $k_{eff}$. In addition to detailed model, the simplified model for Saxton critical experiments was constructed by omitting the top, middle, and bottom grids and ignoring the fuel above water.r.r.

  • The concept models are used for the analysis of joints because they are simple to use and accurate. The modeling parameters of concept models are estimated using the results of experiments performed on the joints. The concept joint models accurately describe the behavior of joints under the loads which are used in the experiments for the estimation of parameters. However, they may not be accurate under the loads which are not used in the experiments. The accuracy can be dependent on the loads which are used in the evaluation of accuracy. In this study, antioptimization is presented to find the worst possible loads, under which the accuracy of concept joint models can be evaluated. The procedure was applied to the accuracy evaluation of concept joint models in an isolated 3-D joint and 2-D joints of a vehicle structure.

  • This paper deals with an evaluation of the product quality according to intermesh of the roller straightening process of a steel cord. To perform the experiments, a single-layered steel cord with three wires is selected as a target. Intermeshes at inlet and outlet of the roller straightening device are selected as a respective design parameter. According to two intermeshes of the roller straightening device, a design table is generated and experiments were performed. Three assessment items of the product quality, such as the residual torsion, the arc-height and the pre-forming ratio, are measured in each experimental case for the quantitative evaluation of a steel cord. Based on the measured data, the sensitivity of two intermeshes was analyzed and the prediction equation for the product quality of a steel cord was also constructed from the regression analysis.

  • This paper deals with experiments for dynamic characteristics and performance evaluation of the 3-axis fine positioning stage developed in [1]. The features of the developed fine positioning stage are the long stroke due to the magnetically preloaded PZT actuators, the minimum motion crosstalk due to the use of a ball contact mechanism and the compact design. The dynamic characteristics of the actuator and the stage are tested with the preload changed in order to validate the actuator and the stage design. Performance evaluation is also made for the PZT actuators as well as the stage positioning accuracy. Experimental results show that the developed stage is accurate enough to be used for nanometer positioning.

  • This paper proposed the method of fracture integrity evaluation for semi-elliptical crack. Plane strain fracture toughnesses are used to compare with the thermal shock stress intensity factors for semi-elliptical crack obtained by Vainshtok weight function method. The method is applied to the finite Cr Mo V and 2.25Cr Mo steel plates with semi-elliptical crack under the thermal shock. For the purpose, tensile property and fracture toughness with respect to the temperature are measured. To verify the method, thermal shock experiments are carried. The theoretical predictions are in good agreement with the experiments.

  • In this study, titles, abstracts, and tables of content were evaluated and compared. The evaluation of the representativeness of surrogates and the evaluation through retrieval experiments were carried out in this study. Through the two experiments it was proved that titles are the best surrogate to condense information but they can't contain sufficient information because of the degree of condensation. Abstracts and tables of content are more effective than titles, while tables of content are the most effective.

  • Most studies on recommender systems to evaluate recommendation performances focus on offline evaluation methods utilizing past customer transaction records. However, evaluating recommendation performance through real-world stimulation becomes challenging. Moreover, such methods cannot evaluate the duration of the recommendation effect. This study measures the personalized recommendation (stimulus) effect when the product recommendation to customers leads to actual purchases and evaluates the duration of the stimulus personalized recommendation effect leading to purchases. The results revealed a 4.58% improvement in recommendation performance in the online environment compared with that in the offline environment. Furthermore, there is little difference in recommendation performance in offline experiments by period, whereas the recommendation performance declines with time in online experiments.

  • Cost-benefit analysis was conducted to propose the best alternatives for integrated watershed management. Benefits of all alternatives were estimated combining results of choice experiment method with alternative evaluation index (AEI). Choice experiment which is a kind of stated preference techniques was applied to six regions since the Anyangcheon watershed was divided into six according to spatial characteristics and conditions (potential hazard and location). Alternative of NB > 0 must be considerable since they are economically and technically feasible.

  • The fact that the major cases of life casualties are from smoke in the fire accidents and the expected steep increase of skyscrapers, huge spaces, multiplexes and huge scaled underground spaces demand establishment of efficient smoke countermeasure. The field experiments on two high buildings of 20 stories and 21 stories are carried out to evaluate the field performance of pressure differential systems for smoke management and the results of experiments are presented.
