  • This paper describes the aerodynamic interference characteristics between the ing and the engines in a commercial airplane which is realized by reverse engineering based on the photo measurement. Steady three-dimensional compressible inviscid Euler equation is solved in the unstructured grid system under the cruise condition. The lift and drag forces in the wing with engines increase by 1.49% and 3.9%, respectively compared with the wing without engines.

  • The mean streamline analysis using the empirical loss correlations has been developed for performance prediction of industrial mixed-flow fan impellers in the present study. New simple, but effective, models for the additional Euler input work characteristic and an internal recirculation loss due to internal flow reversal under the low flowrate conditions are proposed in this paper. Comparison of overall performance predictions with six sets of test data of mixed-flow fans is accomplished to demonstrate the accuracy of the proposed models. Predicted performance curves by the present set of loss models agree fairly well with experimental data for a variety of mixed-flow fan impellers over the entire operating conditions. The prediction method presented herein can be used efficiently in the conceptual design phase of mixed-flow fan impellers.

  • The prediction of the safe separation of the external stores carried on military aircraft is an important task in the aerodynamic design area having the objective to define the operational, release envelopes. The major concern of this study is only safe jettison problem with ejections. This work consists of concept and some results for external store configurations. A Computational Fluid Dynamics technique is applied to calculate the aerodynamic forces. The FLUENT with an implicit Euler solver is used for the present simulations. The computational results are validated against the experimental data.

  • The screech tone of an underexpanded jet is numerically calculated without any specific modeling for the screech tone itself. A fourth-order optimized compact scheme and fourth-order Runge-Kutta method are used to solve the 2D axisymmetric Euler equation. The Fourier transform of pressure signal at upstream shows the directivity pattern of the screech tone very clearly. Pressure signal is shown to observe the generation of the screech tone. Most importantly, we can simulate the axisymmetric mode change of the screech tone very precisely with the proposed method. It can be concluded that the basic phenomenon of the screech tone including its frequency can be calculated and its mode change can be simulated with inviscid Euler equations.

  • The dynamics of the 6-3 Stewart platform manipulator (SPM) is newly derived based on the kinematic relations particularly developed fur the SPM. The essence of the analysis is to deal with three subsystems of the SPM, each consisting of the command and feedback line links associated with two joined neighboring actuators. The dynamics of the command and feedback line links are first formulated using Lagrange and Newton-Euler method and then combined to derive the dynamic equations of motion fur the SPM. The derived nonlinear equations of motion are so computationally effective that it can be easily applied to real-time high-speed tracking control of 6-3 SPM.

  • It is well known that preconditioning methods are efficient for convergence acceleration at compressible low Mach number flows. In this study, the original Euler equations and three preconditioners nondimensionalized differently are implemented in two dimensional inviscid bump flows using the 3rd order MUSCL and DADI schemes as flux discretization and time integration respectively. The multigrid and local time stepping methods are also used to accelerate the convergence. The test case indicates that a properly modified local preconditioning technique involving concepts of a global preconditioning one produces Mach number independent convergence. Besides, an asymptotic analysis for properties of preconditioning methods is added.

  • A method is developed for solving the elastica of cantilever beam subjected to a tip point load and uniform load. The Bernoulli-Euler differential equation of deflected beam is used. The Runge-Kutta method and the Regula Falsi method are used to perform the integration of the differential eqution and to determine the horizontal deflection, respectively. The horizontal and vertical deflections of the free end, and the free-end rotations are calculated for a range of parameters representing variations in tip point load and uniform load. All results are presented in nondimensional forms. And some typical elastic are also presented.

  • The aim of this study is to investigate critical load, which can influence on flight path of a small slender body rocket, due to external forces such as thrust, drag and weight. The critical load was firstly obtained from Euler column equation, and compared with analysis results using Finite Element Method to evaluate the theoretical critical load.

  • The electrooptic properties of the reflected light in a reflective mode, $45^{\circ}C$twisted nematic liquid crystal (TNLC) cell were investigated in the voltage regions near and away from the Freedericksz transition threshold. The measured reflectivity away from the threshold voltage ($V_th$) could not be described by the model which assurnes a constant tilt angle as well as a linearized distribution of twist angle across the cell, although the data are well fitted near $V_th$. We found that in the voltage region away from $V_th$, the model considering the distributions of the tilt angle and the twist angle should be applied for the calculation of the reflectivity. The director-axis distributions were obtained from the numerical integration of the Euler-Lagrange equation.

  • We establish the existence of weak solutions in an infinite subsonic channel in the self-similar plane to the two-dimensional Burgers system. We consider a boundary value problem in a fixed domain such that a part of the domain is degenerate, and the system becomes a second order elliptic equation in the channel. The problem is motivated by the study of the weak shock reflection problem and 2-D Riemann problems. The two-dimensional Burgers system is obtained through an asymptotic reduction of the 2-D full Euler equations to study weak shock reflection by a ramp.
