Leea asiatica (L.) Ridsdale, a folk medicinal plant is used by the ethnic people of North East India for the treatment of hepatic disorder. In this study, we have investigated the hepatoprotective and antioxidant activity of L. asiatica leaves against acetaminophen induced hepatotoxicity. Methanol extract of L. asiatica (150 and 300 mg/kg/day, p.o.) were administered to rats for three consecutive days followed by single acetaminophen (3000 mg/kg, p.o.) administration on $3^{rd}$ day. After 48 h of acetaminophen administration animals were sacrificed and biochemical estimation of serum, in vivo antioxidant activity using liver tissue were carried out. High levels of serum glutamate oxaloacetate transaminase, serum glutamate pyruvate transaminase, serum alkaline phosphatase, total bilirubin, direct bilirubin, total cholesterol and triglycerides were observed in disease control group, which found near to normal in extract treated groups. Higher dose exhibited significant hepatoprotective activity against acetaminophen induced toxicity. Level of superoxide dismutase, catalase, glutathione peroxidase in liver tissue, and reduced glutathione in liver and blood were also significantly increased in extract (300 mg/kg) treated animals compare to disease control group. In this study we found that leaves of L. asiatica exhibited potent hepatoprotective activity against acetaminophen induced hepatic damage in experimental animals which justify the folklore claim, and the possible mechanism of this activity may be due to strong antioxidant activities of extract.
Measurement standards, as being widely recognized, is necessary for national economic development and advanced industrialization. Also measurement standards give reliability and fair trade to the producers and consumers. Macro-effect of measurement standards using estimation of cost function has four effects: 1) value-added causing effect, 2) effect of employment, 3) reduction effect transaction cost, 4) reduction effect defect rates. In this study, to investigate the impacts between specific and the other industries, we used I-O Table of Korea Bank. The relation between the value-added produced by original production factors and final use is determined through production level, and the relation can be investigated with production causing coefficient matrix. In this study, it was showed that the measurement standards investments including measurement only man power of industries were increased from 1995 rapidly. The establishment and maintenance of measurement standards contributes to reduce the defect rate of products in production process and improve the confidence of the product quality. The results from this study show that measurement technology contributes to improve quality, decrease defect rate, improve production process, develope new products, reduce prime cost and increase the consumer's confidence on the firms. Since these results indicate that measurement standards are very important in the point of their vast contribution, we hope our findings can contribute to encourage measurement activities in industries.
KITSAT-1, launched in 1992, passes through Inner Van Allen Radiation Belt in which high energy Protons cause single event upsets(SBUs) in the main memory of KITSAT-1 OBC(On-Board Computer) 186. The present paper compares SEU data from the OBC186 with the AP-8 model of NASA/NSSDC using the Chi-Square method to estimate the SEU threshold energy. Shielding effect by the satellite body has been taken into account to model the proton fluxes at the position of OBC186, and SEUs recorded during the high solar activities have been removed to avoid the spurious result. The result shows that the SEU threshold energy of the main memory of KITSAT-1 OBC186 is estimated to be about $110{pm}10MeV$.
Objective: This study was carried out in order to estimate atmospheric Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs) concentrations using pine needles as a passive air sampler (PAS) in urban, semi-rural and rural regions. Methods: One-year old pine needles were collected to analyze their PCBs concentrations ($C_p$, pg/g dry) at the end of December. PCBs concentrations in ambient air ($C_a$, $pg/m^3$) were calculated with the $logK_{oa}-log(C_p/C_a)$) model. Results: PCBs concentrations in ambient air ($C_a$) were high in the order of urban, semi-rural and rural regions. The lower-chlorinated PCBs showed a higher concentration in ambient air. However, the distribution of PCBs congeners was similar in all three regions. Correlation between $C_a$ and the population density of the three regions was significant ($R^2$=0.9834, p<0.001). Conclusions: It was concluded that although the production and use of PCBs was banned in the1970s, PCBs are currently being produced unintentionally by human activities.
The purpose of this paper is to prepare a satellite account of the household sector that is reflected in the current national income account by approving the economic activities of unpaid household labor as production activity and estimating its value. The study produced three results. First, as different methods of evaluation can be useful according to different study goals or the contents of related policies, it is unreasonable to present a single result for estimating unpaid household labor. This study, therefore, presented the values of housework based on 5 methods, ranging from 124 to 150 trillion won. Second, to input the added value of household production from the fixed capital (household durable goods), this study adopted the declining balance method used in the Korea National Statistical Office. As a result, the total consumption of fixed capital was estimated at approximately 18.8 trillion won. Third, the total added value of unpaid household labor was estimated to range from 143 to 169 trillion wens. The amount is a production value excluded from the SNA which needs to be formed as a separate household satellite account. The ratio of this total value added was 30-35.4 percents to the 1999 GDP in Korea(477 trillion wens).

Detecting and capturing 3D human structures from the intensity-based image sequences is an inherently arguable problem, which attracted attention of several researchers especially in real-time activity recognition (Real-AR). These Real-AR systems have been significantly enhanced by using depth intensity sensors that gives maximum information, in spite of the fact that conventional Real-AR systems are using RGB video sensors. This study proposed a depth-based routine-logging Real-AR system to identify the daily human activity routines and to make these surroundings an intelligent living space. Our real-time routine-logging Real-AR system is categorized into two categories. The data collection with the use of a depth camera, feature extraction based on joint information and training/recognition of each activity. In-addition, the recognition mechanism locates, and pinpoints the learned activities and induces routine-logs. The evaluation applied on the depth datasets (self-annotated and MSRAction3D datasets) demonstrated that proposed system can achieve better recognition rates and robust as compare to state-of-the-art methods. Our Real-AR should be feasibly accessible and permanently used in behavior monitoring applications, humanoid-robot systems and e-medical therapy systems.

A cell culture system of poplar (Populus alba x P.glandulosa) was established to test four different methods for evaluation of cellular stresses. Two different kinds of stresses were given to the cultures by adding either Pb(NO$_3$)$_2$ or paraquat and the cellular responses were monitored during a week period. While fresh weight reduction was observable in two days after the treatment of Pb(NO$_3$)$_2$, such changes were apparent only in later stage in paraquat treated cultures. Cells in paraquat treated cultures in the first 3 days showed no alteration in fresh weight as compared to untreated cultures, but had their MTT reducing activities completely inhibited. Neither Evans blue staining nor ion conductivity of the medium was consistent with fresh weight changes of the cultures. Overall, cell clumps formed during suspension culture appeared to interfere with staining and washing reactions and thus cause the assays unreliable. Among the four methods examined, fresh weight changes and MTT reducing activity appeared to be the most reliable and consistent.
The purpose of this research was to find a proper disposal rainfall extent to improve water quality. SWMM was applied to select catchment area and tested first flush load and rainfall extent. BOD 40mg/L was selected to dispose the first flush and sewer overflow with the same as the criteria of Sewerage Act. Design rainfall, BOD load ratio of first flush sewer overflow, and the ratio of disposal flow were analyzed under various rainfall distribution. BOD load and design rainfall to treat overflow in situation of first flush extent with 4.3~17.4% were 56~87% and 3.8~6.8 mm/day, respectively. In urban area, first flush loads were not correspond to land activities, but tend to increase with increasing rainfall amount and drainage area. The more the distribution of rainfall is similar to Huff-frontal or central distribution of rainfall, the more increase the first flush loads.
It has been suggested that merging plays an important role in the formation and the evolution of early-type galaxies. Optical-NIR color gradients of early-type galaxies in high density environments are found to be less steep than those in low density environment, hinting frequent merger activities in early-type galaxies in high density environment. In order to confirm if the flat color gradient is the result of dry merger, we decided to look deeply to find merging features and get their relation with color gradient. We selected samples which show extreme values of optical-NIR color gradients based on the data of previous study, and observed them at Maidanak observatory 1.5m telescope with long exposure. After masking out overlaid sources, our analysis reveals that these galaxies do not have extreme color gradient values. High degree sky flat technique was used during observation to aid discovery of faint, extended features. However, flatness of detector (SNUCAM) was good enough, so we could not see any marked improvement in image quality compared to those using normal sky flats. Additionally we noticed a feature that looks like merging tidal tail in the CFHT archival image, but this does not show up on the image we obtained. This demonstrates that flatness and correct sky estimation is very important when we look for faint merging features. In future we plan to enlarge the number of the sample.

Purpose: The present study examines the effects of tourism on carbon dioxide emissions for selected South Asian economies over the time from 1995 to 2016. Research design, data and methodology: The present study is an annual time series analysis of tourism and CO2 emissions. The data is taken from World Development Indicators, an official data bank of World Bank. The study sample covers four South Asian countries, namely Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Nepal. The empirical analysis is conducted by employing Pedroni panel cointegration, Fully Modified OLS, and Dynamic OLS approaches of estimation. Results: Tourism significantly increases environmental degradation in selected South Asian economies. The empirical estimated results indicate, that 1 % increase in tourism related activities leads to 0.16 % increase in CO2 emissions. In addition energy consumption and GDP are also causing an upsurge in CO2 emissions in the selected panel of South Asian economies. As the empirical results indicate that 1% increase in GDP stimulates carbon dioxide emissions by 0.23%. Conclusion: In order to protect the environment, the study emphasizes that sustainable tourism practices need to be promoted in the selected South Asian countries. Policy implication and provided and discussed.
