  • Passive Ranging Sonar (PRS) is a type of passive sonar consisting of three sub-array on the port and starboard, and has a characteristic of detecting a target and calculating a bearing and a distance. The bearing and distance calculation requires physical sub-array position information, and the bearing and distance accuracy performance are deteriorated when the position information of the sub-array is inaccurate. In particular, it has a greater impact on distance accuracy performance using plus value of two time-delay than a bearing using average value of two time-delay. In order to improve this, a study on sub-array position error estimation and error compensation is needed. In this paper, We estimate the sub-array position error based on enetic algorithm, an optimization search technique, and propose a method to improve the performance of distance accuracy by compensating the time delay error caused by the position error. In addition, we will verify the proposed algorithm and its performance using the sea-going data.

  • In the partial-band interference and Rayleigh fading environments, the bit error probability equation of FH/MFSK signal has been derived and the error rate has been evaluated. And the results are shown in graphs and discussed. Here, to improve the error rate performance the repeated diversity and the error-correction coding techniques are adopted. The degree of improvement of error rate performance has been found out in diversity and coding techniques respectively. In diversity case, repetition number is taken as a parameter and in coding case, as the error-correction codes Hamming code, BCH code, and convolutional code are introduced. From the obtained results, we have known that the increase of the number of repetition in diversity technique has been brought a little improvement of performance but the coding technique considerable improvement and in particular, convolutional code is very effective. Therefore, coding technique is considered to be better than repeated diversity to cope with Rayleigh fading and partial-band interference.

  • Between tandem source-channel coding systems and joint source-channel coding systems, it has been known that there is a complexity threshold in complexity versus performance. In this paper, by expanding the previous analysis for equal error protection systems, we analyze and compare the performance under complexity constrains for tandem source-channel coding systems which employ unequal error protection. Under a given complexity constraint, the optimization is performed to minimize the end-to-end distortion of each representative tandem and joint source-channel coding system. The results show that the complexity threshold for unequal error protection systems becomes smaller and the performance enhancement of unequal error protection systems over equal error protection systems gets smaller as the system complexity gets larger.

  • According to the Korea Urban Air Mobility (K-UAM) Concept of Operation (ConOps), the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) is recommended as the primary navigation system and the performance specification will be implemented considering the standard of Performance Based Navigation (PBN). However, by taking into account the characteristics of an urban environment and the concurrent operations of multiple UAM aircraft, the current PBN standards for civil aviation seem difficult to be directly applied to an UAM aircraft. Therefore, by referring to technical documents published in the literature, this paper examines the feasibility of applying the proposed performance requirements to K-UAM, which follows the recommendation of navigation performance requirements for K-UAM. In accordance with the UAM ConOps, the UAM aircraft is anticipated to maintain low altitude during approach and landing phases. Subsequently, the navigation performance degradation could occur in the urban environment, and the primary degradation factor is identified as multipath error. For this reason, to ensure the safety and reliability of the K-UAM aircraft, it is necessary to analyze the degree of performance degradation related to the urban environment and then propose an alternative aid to enhance the navigation performance. To this end, the aim of this paper is to model the multipath effects of the GNSS in an urban environment and to carry out the simulation studies using the real GNSS datasets. Finally, the initial navigation performance requirement is proposed based on the results of the numerical simulation for the K-UAM.

  • The bit error rate(BER)of the data passed through Wideband-Code Division Multiple Access (W-CDMA) system with turbo-codes structure is presented. The performance of turbo-codes under W-CDMA system is estimated for various users and iteration numbers of decoding. The channel model is Additive White Gaussian Noise(AWGN) and Rayleigh fading channel. When iteration number increases, bit error probability of turbo-codes decreases. and when the number of users increase, bit error probability of turbo-codes increases.

  • This paper proposes the algorithm of servo- writing based on feedback error learning neural networks. The controller consists of feedback controller using PID and feedforward controller using gaussian radial basis function network. Because the RBFNs are trained by on-line rule, the controller has adaptation capability. The performance of the proposed controller is compared to that of conventional PID controller. Proposed algorithm shows better performance than PID controller.

  • In this paper, we propose an analysis model for the performance of channel error probability in Stream Control Transmission Protocol (SCTP) using Markov model. In this model it is assumed that the compressor and decompressor work in Unidirectional Mode. And the average throughput of SCTP protocol is obtained by finding the throughputs of when the initial channel state is good or bad.

  • In this paper, we propose a retransmission based error control scheme in which a stop-and-wait ARQ is simultaneously performed in two adjacent layers for the node-to-node error control. We develop an analytical numerical method to calculate the probability of error remains and the moments of the high layer message delay time at steady state. Using the analytical method, we investigate the performance of double-layered ARQ scheme with respect to the properties of the employed CRC codes and the characteristics of the involved channel.

  • In this paper, effect of imperfect power control on performance of a pseudonoise (PN) code tracking loop is analyzed and simulated for a direct-sequence/code-division multiple access (DS/CDMA) system. The multipath fading channel is modeled as a two-ray Rayleigh fading model. Power control error is modeled as a log-normally distributed random variable. The tracking performance of DLL (delay-locked-loop) is evaluated in terms of tracking jitter and mean-time-to-lose-lock (MTLL). From the simulation results, it is shown that the PN tracking performance is very sensitive to the power control error.
