Environmentally-Sustainable Single End Slashing

  • The process of weaving fabrics with high levels of tension and abrasion can cause damage to the yarn threads. To protect threadlines during the process, a protective polymer is coated on the surface of the yarns prior to weaving. This application process is known as slashing. The current slashing system is incompatible with today's demand activated manufacturing strategies. Methods of improving the uniformity of polymer coating application were studied, and several applicators were designed and evaluated. Prewetting of the threadlines before coating application was shown to greatly improve coating uniformity. The objective of the research is to design a single-end slashing process that is environmentally friendly and will improve productivity and flexibility.

  • As most of environmental impacts caused by development projects are irrevocable, a thorough review is utmost necessary. Ecological-economic integrated approach inspired by Norgaard's co-evolution theory should be applied to the environmentally adjusted CBA, which plays a decisive role in the feasibility analysis. Based on case studies of NamHan River Management Project and Yeongsangang Wetland Reclamation Project, this paper attempts to show the usefulness of linking basic plan and implimentation design to EIA and suggests to integrate EACBA into the current EIA system institutionally as a more effective policy tool for realizing sustainable development in Korea.

  • Apartments, having advantages of providing high density in limited area, are now booming in these days in Korea. However, most of the apartments are monotonus and all alike in the siteplan. As a result, they we in lack of humanity for the Apartment residents. The subject of this study is analysis and development of the site planning and design trends in Apartment Complexes in the official sector. In order to suggest the new planning and Design method, the study has analyzed the Apartment complexes exemplary, that have built in recent 10 years in Seoul districts. As a results a environmentally friendly planning and design in Apartment complexes estates as a new paradigm for environmentally sound sustainable development. Apartment Unit Plans have few Flexibility and Variability in the inner space.

Environmentally Responsible Apparel Consumption and Convertible Dresses

  • Among the many methods to make sustainable garments, convertible garments have the potential to change style and function that allow consumers to keep and use garments longer with the possibility of enhancing sustainability. This research analyzes consumer preferences in changeable design options for convertible dresses and the consumers' influence on environmentally responsible apparel consumption (ERC) behaviors on their preferences regarding changeable design options of dresses, which are popular items. An online survey collected data from a convenient sample of 321 female college students from four universities in the United States. Data were analyzed using IBM SPSS through descriptive analysis, cluster analysis, and independent samples t-test. There were significant differences between high and low ERC groups in design preferences that considered important aspects of purchasing, using convertible dresses, and purchase intentions. Detailed differences among sub-groups were analyzed. Designers are encouraged to make tying/folding/wrapping dresses with changes of size/fit, dress length, or color/pattern. The results are beneficial for apparel designers when developing convertible dresses with the guidance of consumers' design preferences and differences according to ERC levels.

  • 이 연구는 지속 가능한 포장 디자인의 중요성, 정의, 핵심 전략 및 향후 방향을 요약합니다. 현대 사회에서 지속 가능한 포장 디자인은 환경 보호와 자원 절약에 중점을 둘 뿐만 아니라 경제, 사회 및 문화의 지속 가능한 발전을 포함합니다. 이 연구에서는 환경 친화적인 재료의 사용, 포장 디자인의 최적화, 포장의 재활용성 및 재사용성을 향상 시켜 환경 부담을 줄이고 생태 균형을 촉진하기 위한 전략에 대해 자세히 설명합니다. 또한 이 연구는 단순화된 디자인 개념과 모듈식 시스템의 채택, 패키징의 다기능성 증가와 같은 디자인 혁신의 중요성을 강조합니다.또한 설계에서 폐기까지의 모든 단계가 환경에 미치는 영향을 최소화하기 위해 포장 설계에 수명 주기 평가를 적용하는 것에 대해 논의합니다. 마지막으로 지속 가능한 포장 디자인의 환경 및 사회적 이점에도 불구하고 실제로는 여전히 기술, 경제 및 규제의 도전에 직면해 있습니다.미래 디자인은 지속 가능한 포장의 광범위한 채택과 관행을 촉진하기 위해 학제 간 협력, 첨단 기술의 통합, 소비자 교육 및 참여, 강화된 정책 및 표준 제정이 필요합니다.

  • This research is based on the concept that environmentally sustainable school design itself can raise the awareness of environmental issues related with sustainability for the students in early school days. Firstly, 7th educational curriculum is analyzed in terms of environmental education and the possibility for the spatial translation is reviewed. Secondly, potential items appropriate for physical facilities are extracted. Lastly design guidelines, which covers four different categories such as school yard, energy, water and waste are provided not only for the environmental education but also for the energy efficiency and resource conservation of the facility itself.

  • From a practical perspective, sustainable development requires the optimization of current natural resources and the minimization of derived wastes. A major concern with respect to sustainable infrastructure development is the continued depletion of easily-available natural resources and environmental matters are more serious, the concerned about waste materials which are inevitably produced in the manufacturing of the product is getting worse. These wastes must be handled and properly disposed, and many times, although this waste may be environmentally inert, it has been discarded in landfills. But current disposal methods of these by-products create not only a loss of profit for the power industry, but also environmental concerns the breed negative public opinion. therefore, this study evaluates the ECO artificial aggregate and bricks were designed and tested for the end use of fly ash.

생태기반지표를 활용한 생태학교 건축계획에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Architectural Planning for Ecological School with the Biotop-space Factor)

  • The purpose of this study is to create an approach to architectural planning centered on an Biotop-space Factor, with the purpose of applying environmentally friendly architecture to school buildings. For this, the notion of ecological schools is defined, and possible use of the planning standard is studied as a means by which ecological school planning can be carried out. As a result, ecological schools can be viewed as (1) the field of education, (2) the field of logical community and (3) a stronghold of the ecological environment. And The possible creation of a quantified goal and level at Ecological school planning is also reviewed with the Biotop-space Factor.

  • This paper aims to make a feasibility study and to propose a master plan for the development of "integrated ocean energy utilization system", which utilizes various renewable ocean energies. Fossils energy, as the most important energy resources which are inevitable for the living and industrial development, becomes exhausted and its consumption creates serious environmental problem. It is important to utilize renewable ocean energy for a sustainable and environmentally friendly development. We survey the integrated utilization of ocean energy based on surveyed energy density distribution and propose concepts of integrated ocean energy utilization plant for both onshore and offshore system. The results of this study can support national effort for renewable energy development utilizing integrated ocean energy and refer as a guideline for the technical development of sustainable integrated ocean energy.

건축물 일체형으로서 광선반형 자연채광시스템의 건축물 적용기법에 관한 연구 (Application of Lightself to Buildings as a Integrated Daylighting System)

  • For sustainable building design, using day lighting is considered a variable technique to save energy and create comfort indoor environments. Specially, the lightself as a integrated daylighting system is one of the most important techniques due to it's durability, availability and lighting performance. This paper aims to analyze the development and architectural application of a lightself system to buildings as a integrated day lighting system. For the study, advanced lightself systems developed in abroad such as "Integrated Enveloped and Lighting System", "Anidolic Daylighting System" and etc. are analyzed. Also, the architectural examples are investigated. As results, the new technologies such as optically treated reflective and sun-tracking are adopted to improve daylight performance. And, lots of environmentally friendly buildings are installed on integrated lightself system.
