The motion of a cylindrical object resting on shallow seabed due to wave forces and soil friction is studied. Given environmental conditions such as wave characteristics and seabed soil properties, the equations of motion are derived and the corresponding reponses of the cylinder in two dimensional plane, i.e., translational and rotational displacements, accelerations, are calculated. The motion is substantially restrained by the penetration of a cylinder into seabed and the parametric study focuses on finding out a minimum penetration depth which makes the cylinder motionless.
In this study, when the nonlinear overhead crane which allows simultaneously travel and traverse motion moves a desired transport route, the object suspended the end of rope does undesirable swing motion. Nonlinear overhead crane pertubes in the vicinity of an operating point, therefore the nonlinear overhead crane is modified to linear overhead crane for the operating point. The linear overhead crane was controlled to swing angles of the object by the ratio of torque inputs to motors of the girder and the trolley. As a basis for the result of the linear overhead crane, the nonlinear overhead crane was controlled swing angles of the object and positions of the overhead crane without collision with environmental equipment by partial state feedback control.
In this paper, image processing technique that reduces video images of buoy motion to yield time series of image coordinates of buoy objects will be investigated. The buoy motion images are noisy due to time-varying brightness as well as non-uniform background illumination. The occurrence of boats, wakes, and wind-induced white caps interferes significantly in recognition of buoy objects. Thus, semi-automated procedures consisting of object recognition and image measurement aspects will be conducted. These offer more satisfactory results than a manual process. Spectral analysis shows that the image coordinates of buoy objects represent wave motion well, indicating its usefulness in the analysis of wave characteristics.
This study was performed to construct tree species classification map according to three information types (spectral information, texture information, and spectral and texture information) by altitude (30 m, 60 m, 90 m) using the unmanned aerial vehicle images and the object-based classification method, and to evaluate the concordance rate through field survey data. The object-based, optimal weighted values by altitude were 176 for 30 m images, 111 for 60 m images, and 108 for 90 m images in the case of Scale while 0.4/0.6, 0.5/0.5, in the case of the shape/color and compactness/smoothness respectively regardless of the altitude. The overall accuracy according to the type of information by altitude, the information on spectral and texture information was about 88% in the case of 30 m and the spectral information was about 98% and about 86% in the case of 60 m and 90 m respectively showing the highest rates. The concordance rate with the field survey data per tree species was the highest with about 92% in the case of Pinus densiflora at 30 m, about 100% in the case of Prunus sargentii Rehder tree at 60 m, and about 89% in the case of Robinia pseudoacacia L. at 90 m.
In this paper, we propose a novel motion field estimation algorithm for which a U-disparity map and forward-and-backward error removal are applied in a vehicular environment. Generally, a motion exists in an image obtained by a camera attached to a vehicle by vehicle movement; however, the obtained motion vector is inaccurate because of the surrounding environmental factors such as the illumination changes and vehicles shaking. It is, therefore, difficult to extract an accurate motion vector, especially on the road surface, due to the similarity of the adjacent-pixel values; therefore, the proposed algorithm first removes the road surface region in the obtained image by using a U-disparity map, and uses then the optical flow that represents the motion vector of the object in the remaining part of the image. The algorithm also uses a forward-backward error-removal technique to improve the motion-vector accuracy and a vehicle's movement is predicted through the application of the RANSAC (RANdom SAmple Consensus) to the previously obtained motion vectors, resulting in the generation of a motion field. Through experiment results, we show that the performance of the proposed algorithm is superior to that of an existing algorithm.

This paper provides a method for video augmentation using image interpolation. In computer graphics or augmented reality, 3D information of a model object is necessary to generate 2D views of the model, which are then inserted into or overlayed on environmental views or real video frames. However, we do not require any three dimensional model but images of the model object at some locations to render views according to the motion of video camera which is calculated by an SFM algorithm using point matches under weak-perspective (scaled-orthographic) projection model. Thus, a linear view interpolation algorithm is applied rather than a 3D ray-tracing method to get a view of the model at different viewpoints from model views. In order to get novel views in a way that agrees with the camera motion the camera coordinate system is embedded into model coordinate system at initialization time on the basis of 3D information recovered from video images and model views, respectively. During the sequence, motion parameters from video frames are used to compute interpolation parameters, and rendered model views are overlayed on corresponding video frames. Experimental results for real video frames and model views are given. Finally, discussion on the limitations of the method and subjects for future research are provided.

A laser Doppler vibrometer based on the laser heterodyne interferometry is employed to measure the vibration velocity of vibrating objects. In this paper, we propose a real time analog signal processor of a laser Doppler vibrometer to reduce the degradation of Doppler signals mainly caused by environmental noises. In the proposed real time signal processor of an laser Doppler vibrometer, a pre-processor and a logical motion direction detector are designed to reduce the detection errors of the object motion direction. Also, a noise detection and rejection circuit is designed to reject the unfiltered noises.
In this paper, we introduce a technique to retarget human motion data to the humanoid body in a constrained environment. We assume that the given motion data includes detailed interactions such as holding the object by hand or avoiding obstacles. In addition, we assume that the humanoid joint structure is different from the human joint structure, and the shape of the surrounding environment is different from that at the time of the original motion. Under such a condition, it is also difficult to preserve the context of the interaction shown in the original motion data, if the retargeting technique that considers only the change of the body shape. Our approach is to separate the problem into two smaller problems and solve them independently. One is to retarget motion data to a new skeleton, and the other is to preserve the context of interactions. We first retarget the given human motion data to the target humanoid body ignoring the interaction with the environment. Then, we precisely deform the shape of the environmental model to match with the humanoid motion so that the original interaction is reproduced. Finally, we set spatial constraints between the humanoid body and the environmental model, and restore the environmental model to the original shape. To demonstrate the usefulness of our method, we conducted an experiment by using the Boston Dynamic's Atlas robot. We expected that out method can help the humanoid motion tracking problem in the future.
Coupled structures are widely seen in civil and mechanical engineering. In coupled structures, monitoring the translational motion of its key components is of great importance. For instance, some coupled arms are equipped with a hydraulic piston to provide the stiffness along the piston axial direction. The piston moves back and forth and a distance sensing system is necessary to make sure that the piston is within its stroke limit. The measured motion data also give us insight into how the coupled structure works and provides information for the design optimization. This paper develops two distance sensing systems for coupled structures. The first system measures distance with ultrasonic sensor. It consists of an ultrasonic sensing module, an Arduino interface board and a control computer. The system is then further upgraded to a three-sensor version, which can measure three different sets of distance data at the same time. The three modules are synchronized by the Arduino interface board as well as the self-developed software. Each ultrasonic sensor transmits high frequency ultrasonic waves from its transmitting unit and evaluates the echo received back by the receiving unit. From the measured time interval between sending the signal and receiving the echo, the distance to an object is determined. The second distance sensing system consists of a wire draw encoder, a data collection board and the control computer. Wire draw encoder is an electromechanical device to monitor linear motion by converting a central shaft rotation into electronic pulses of the encoder. Encoder can measure displacement, velocity and acceleration simultaneously and send the measured data to the control computer via the data acquisition board. From experimental results, it is concluded that both the ultrasonic and the wire draw encoder systems can obtain the linear motion of structures in real-time.

This paper presents an efficient region-based motion segmentation method for segmenting of moving objects in a traffic scene with a focus on a Video Monitoring System (VMS). The presented method consists of two phases: motion detection and motion segmentation. Using the adaptive thresholding technique, the differences between two consecutive frames are analyzed to detect the movements of objects in a scene. To segment the detected regions into meaningful objects which have the similar intensity and motion information, the regions are initially segmented using a k-means clustering algorithm and then, the neighboring regions with the similar motion information are merged. Since we deal with not the whole image, but the detected regions in the segmentation phase, the computational cost is reduced dramatically. Experimental results demonstrate robustness in the occlusions among multiple moving objects and the change in environmental conditions as well.
