  • Values and attitude towards the environment begin to form in elementary school. Thus, environmental education is effective to promote children's sensibility on the environment, to increase their interest and concern on it, and to make them have friendly attitudes towards it. As a measure of such education, experiential learning activities are being emphasized, where children can see, feel and experience for themselves in a familiar environment surrounding them. Based on the results of this research, the following proposals can be made for environmental education necessary for elementary school children. i) the contents of environmental education should be selected and organized according to grades. Also, schedule should be secured to provide environmental education in certain time. ii) program should be developed to fit into local characteristics and academic level, providing connective and consistent environmental education. iii) activities for environmental education in elementary school can be effective only if connective guidances are provided among school, home and local community. iv) the recycling and separate collection activity program used in this research was limited to 3rd graders in small-size rural schools. Additional research may be necessary to see how long their attitudes last according to different grades.

  • Researchers who is intereted in Environmental Education have been concentrated on the Environmental subject since it was involved in school curriculum. But the selection percentage of Environmental subject is so low. So. I think Environmental Education researchers should be interested in Environmental Clubs in school because most students can easily take Environmental Education through Environmental Clubs than Environmental subject. The Environmental NGO, H, is interested in Environmental Clubs in school. The NGO held the camp that is called “Teenagers Environmental Club Festival” to encourage the environmental Clubs. I got some significances from the camp. First, Not only the camp but also post-education is required with on/off lines. Second, When the Environmental NGO makes a plan which supports Environmental Clubs in school, you should consider the school level. Third, activities' contents should be composed according to the level of students. Fourth, Students must involved in camp management team. Fifth, Management team which is composed of the NGO's planners, Environmental Education researchers, Environmental Club teachers and students is required.

  • A 'Resource recycling society' is the common goal to reduce environmental impact from human activities and to conserve natural resources. The Resource-Recycling Waste Management is necessary to explicitly show objectives, and to evaluate the achievement level gained by school administration. In this paper, focusing on resource-recycling school waste management, three indicators are designed to evaluate the present conditions of school waste management, which include evaluation of school policy, waste management and education for waste management by school administration. Each indicator is made up of three or four questions that are supposed to be answered by school managers, teachers and students. Questionnaire surveys, which is based on the resource-recycling school waste management indicators, were carried out in elementary school, middle school and high school in the National Capital region. The resulting of indicators well describe the situation of school waste management among these schools. • This study was conducted to investigate the concern of the primary school teachers and the teaching situation about the environmental education through questionnaire survey on the effective environmental education. The results of questionnaire were analysed and discussed to provide the effective teaching method for the environmental education. The result of this study is as follows. 1. It was found that teachers want to teach environmental lessons as a special subject, and the content of the environmental lessons in textbook was not enough in quantity, the living waste was the most serious ploblem. Owing to the lacking in materials for the lectures on environmental education, most teachers collect the material depending on the mass communication. Also they were more interested in the environmental lessons rather than the other lessons in textbook. But because of the lacking in administrative assistance, they have difficulty in conducting the effective environmental education. 2. The teaching method of the environmental education in most primary schools was a all together-type lecture in classroom. Owing to conducting the environmental education for the knowledge than the action through the extra activity, it was difficult to expect the effect of the environmental education. Also the rate of using the reflection materials which can be improved the studying effect was very low. 3. For the effective environmental education most teachers wanted the spot learnings and the case studies and teacher education and training to get an special knowledge for environmental education. The effective evaluation method for children's environmental education is to present the results by environmental experiences and practices and to formulate a system education is organized for the effective management and activation of environmental education. 4. By practising the seasonal spot learnings, students need to change of learning method and to realize the importance of environment through own self-experiences. 5. In the future, it is desirable that researching of an environmental education is offered the effective practising teaching method which is improving the development of customs and functions, cultivation of the sense of value, ability to solve the problem, to determine the intention as well as the survey on the real situation and the consciousness about environmental education.

  • This study examined the effects of RSM (Regional Science education resource Map), developed and provided by Busan metropolitan city Office of Education, at high schools in Busan. Two group of students, who were in the same level of achievement as well as other environmental conditions, participated in this study. Twenty nine of students as an experimental group experienced outdoor activities utilizing RSM, while thirty of students as a control group did not participate in any outdoor activities. The results indicated that compared to the control group of students, the experimental group of students represented a significant improvement in students' environmental attitudes, local ecological interest and eco-friendly behavior. The teachers who guided outdoor activities utilizing RSM suggested that RSM needs to be further subdivided by seasons as well as local districts. They also suggested that RSM needs to be linked with a school curriculum.

  • A survey of middle school students and teachers in Mokpo city has been done to understand the perception of environment of students and the present situation of environmental education in middle school. Only 2 of the 14 middle schools have chosen the environmental education course as a required subject. The majority of middle-school students in Mokpo city have learned the environmental education as a subordinate course included in the other subjects such as science, social science or technology. The environmental education in school has been done mostly through non-subject activities such as club activity, group work etc. The survey shows that almost all students think the environmental pollution is serious problem(83% of respondents) and they are especially interested in separate garbage collection(72%) and environmental conservation activity(63.9%) to protect the environment. The concerns about the environmental problems of students(57.7%) has increased after environmental education regardless educational methods or subjects. The students and teachers think that environmental education in school has not been carried out enough and almost all of them(68.4% of students, 97.5% of teachers) agree that the environmental education should be done as an independent subject. In order to more practical and effective environmental education, many opportunities to experience environmental conservation activities should be given during the environmental education course and the environmental education should be separated from other subjects to be taught independently. Moreover, it might be necessary to increase proportion of teachers in environmental disciplines and to develop various teaching methods.
