  • The problem of robot navigation and control is a complex task. Its complexity and characteristics depends on the characteristics of the environment robot inhabits, robot construction (mechanical abilities to move, sense) and the job the robot is supposed to do. In this paper we propose a hybrid programming approach to mobile robot navigation and control in an indoor environment. In our approach we used declarative, procedural, and object oriented programming paradigms and we utilized some advantages of our distributed computing architecture. The programming languages corresponding to the paradigms we used were C, C++ and Prolog. In the paper we present some details of our mobile robot hardware and software structure, focusing on the software design and implementation.

  • In order to reduce the cost of software maintenance including software modification, we suggest the object oriented program with checking the version of application program using the Java language and the technique of executing the downloaded application program via network using the application manager. In order to change the traditional scheduler to the application manager we have adopted the Xlet concept in the nuclear fields using the network. In usual Xlet means a Java application that runs on the digital television receiver. The Java TV Application Program Interface(API) defines an application model called the Xlet application lifecycle. Java applications that use this lifecycle model are called Xlets. The Xlet application lifecycle is compatible with the existing application environment and virtual machine technology. The Xlet application lifecycle model defines the dialog(protocol) between an Xlet and its environment

  • Project leadership lifts management to a new level where projects are seen as strategic weapons that help firms to develop competitiveness. For too long, the focus on projects has been on short-term, tool-oriented management. There is a need for fresh understanding of project leadership and appreciation of its importance. A state-of-the-art review of research on leadership in project management is presented. Results of an aspect of a global study on leadership in the construction industry are discussed. The need for project managers to be effectively developed as leaders is underscored.

  • In this study, the thermal environment of a certain building was investigated by using of concerned equipments and enquete sheets. The measured items were temperature, humidity, air flow and radiant heat, and thermal responses for the occupants were checked also, which are oriented to be used as basic data for environmental design. The results of this study are as followed. 1. The optimal room temperature was $24\~26.5^{\circ}C$ DBT in cooling season. 2. Under the condition from $50\%\;to\;70\%$ of relative humidity, the difference of relative humidity did not impact upon the feeling temperature. 3. In cooling season, the average clothing factor of occupants was 0.34 clo ; 0.49 clo for men and 0.25 clo for women. 4. The average working factor of occupants was $1.1\~1.3\;Met$ in that cooling season.

  • With the change of family type and diversify of life style, residents need various unit plan in Quality. A rate of economically productive women has increased, and generally double-income households will continuously increase in the future. So a research is requested to consider the double-income households's satisfaction for a unit plan based on their life characteristics. The purpose of this study is to find out double-income households's lifestyles, and to search and analyze users' needs for spatial composition according to their lifestyles, and then, embody spatial composition of Apartment Unit plans. The findings are as follows. (1) Housing lifestyles of users living in apartment are categorized into 5 types: seeking the way to make housework easy and comfortable, making the best use spatial composition, pursing the universalism, housework oriented, pursing the leisure. (2) The type of seeking the way to make housework easy and comfortable requests facility with home appliances and a shower bath, the type of making the best use spatial composition requests storage space and trial about new plan, the type of pursing the universalism is concerned about the protection of environment and a memorial service, the type of housework oriented wants a talk with their family and discuss some problem, and the type of pursing the leisure requests division of household with their family and likes traveling and sports.

  • Service-Oriented Architecture(SOA) define the interaction method between two computing entities that one entity performs a unit task instead of another entity. This, unit task, is called "Service" and interaction of these services should have independency and loosely coupled task. The effect of SOA's main functions such as loosely coupled task and independent interoperability with influence the possibility of flexible message communication between different way and different users. In this article, we analyzed the performance about system stabilization between general web service and SOA based application that implemented through WCF based messaging framework using .NET Framework and integrated data presentation method. As the result of test, we confirmed that SOA environment using WCF have more advantages.

  • The purpose of this study is to show typology of virtual world and to look out how virtual world develops especially in Korea. As paradigm changes, the scientific virtual reality and world wide web are absorbed into 3-D virtual world in Metaverse. The metaverse is the convergence of virtually enhanced physical reality and physically persistent virtual space. There are two categories of virtual world, the Ludic Virtual World which is oriented from games like MMORPGs and the Social Virtual World which is oriented from network communication system. Compared to North America and Europe, the Ludic Virtual World and game society grow and develop quickly in Korea. It's because Korean users prefer the online environment where millions of people live out a collective fantasy existence.

  • This design was submitted to an invited competition for the Ski Resort of Kangwon Land which was held by Kangwon Land Resort in August, 2003. The site is located at 1∼17 Gohan-ri Gohan-eup Jungsungun Kangwon-do and has an area of 5,000,000$m^2$. The objectives of this project were to revitalize the local economy of Sabuk, Gohan which is well Down for deserted coal mines, by creating a resort complex for family group users with an environmentally friendly ski facility. This design scheme addresses three areas of concerns: First, how to boost the local economy through the proposed ski resort. By limiting lodging facilities in the ski resort, we could induce more development in the nearby towns. In order to balance the economical benefit to towns of Sabuk and Gohan, we decided to have two separate ski base facilities in each town boundary. Second, how to encourage family-oriented use of the ski resort by designing user-friendly ski slope, especially for beginner skiers. We designed 50% more beginner-level ski slope compared to average ski resorts. Third, how to make environmentally-friendly ski resort by respecting the original land form. We minimized the damage to the natural environment by protecting valuable tree groves. Also, ski slopes are designed to reduce unnecessary earth movement. This was designed under the assumption that more valley-oriented slopes would result in less cutting and banking of earthwork; this assumption was verified in comparison with other ski resorts. It is expected that this desist would serve environmentally-friendly designs in ski slopes.

  • As the medical environment and dental services change, the importance of educating dentists in responses to systemic emergencies is increasing. The current student-oriented education paradigm is moving towards training students in the abilities required to address the daily crises they will face, while also providing them with the ability to deliver knowledge. Before addressing a patient's situation, emergency physicians begin by diagnosing symptoms. As they must decide on the tests and treatments that are immediately required and must solve problems through interdisciplinary treatment, emergency physicians require additional skills and communication abilities besides clinical knowledge. Since dentistry colleges provide education that emphasizes the skills dentists require to treat oral diseases, they do not have sufficient time to teach emergency care. Additionally, because their professors lack expertise in pedagogy, dental students also have insufficient motivation to study the pathophysiology of systemic diseases. This review proposes a direction of teaching that can help dental students recognize problems and situations in emergency cases and that can help them develop their capability to immediately make a decision and resolve the problem. To do this, the author surveyed the educational philosophy and knowledge provided in the instructional design of clinical professors who give lectures on emergency care, and also examined the teaching methods of the learner-oriented education paradigm.
