  • This study was designed to identify the relation between health beliefs and compliance with weight control behavior in obese high school students living in Chonnam province. The data were collected from May 24 to 29, 1999. The instruments used in this study were modified by the authors on the basis of the results of the study's related references. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's Correlation using the SAS PC+ program. The results were as follows : 1. The correlation between health concern and compliance with weight control behavior was revealed as statistically significant (r= .34, p= .005). From the correlation of variables, it is concluded that there were statistically significant relations between health concern and benefit (r= .25, p= .043), between health concern and barrier (r= .33, p= .008), between susceptibility and severity (r= .64, p= .000), between susceptibility and benefit (r= .42, p= .000), between susceptibility and barrier (r= .44, p= .003), between severity and benefit (r= .37, p= .002), between severity and barrier (r= .56, p= .000), and between benefit and barrier (r= .38, p= .002). Thus, perceived susceptibility, perceived severity, perceived benefit, and perceived barrier had an indirect influence on compliance with weight control behavior. 2. In the analysis of the relationship between general characteristics and compliance with weight control behavior and health belief variables: Sex (t=2.56, p= .010) was revealed as the influencing variable of health concern. The number of those subjects living together (F=2.88, p= .044) was revealed as the influencing variable of susceptibility. Sex (t=3.47, p= .047), income (F=1.67, p= .051) was revealed as the influencing variable of barrier. 3. In the analysis of the relationship between obese characteristics and compliance with weight control behavior and health belief variables: Perception of weight (F=9.21, p= .000), family history of obesity (t=4.89, p= 030), environment of obesity (t=14.30, p= .000) were revealed as the influencing variables of susceptibility. Perception of weight (F=4.86, p= .001), symptoms of obesity (t=4.46, p= .006), family history of obesity (t=6.59, p= .012), environment of obesity (11.30, p= .001), and reasons of weight control (F=3.07, p= .010) were revealed as the influencing variables of severity. Symptoms of obesity (F=4.15, p= .009), reasons of weight control (F=2.41, p= .046) were revealed as the influencing variables of benefit. Environments of obesity (t=4.23, p= .044) were revealed as influencing variables of barrier. These results suggest that for improvement in compliance with weight control behavior, school nurses should stimulate the students' concerns about health.

  • Through the systematic analysis on articles about the environment in newspapers, the news reports were considered as effective materials, so after being reconstructed, they were used as learning materials in a lesson on environment contamination which is newly introduced in Earth Science I from the 2009 curriculum revision. To examine students' attitude toward science, before and after NIE application to the students, Test of Science Related Attitudes(TOSRA) as a test tool was carried out which was composed of 7 categories - four optional questionnaires for each category, 28 in total were used. The result was as follows: in a pretest, based upon the average scores by factors the factors ranked from the highest to the lowest as follows: the social meaning of science, the acceptance of the scientific attitude, the commonness of a scientist, the attitude to scientific exploration, the pleasure in science class, the vocational interest in science, the concern over science as a hobby, and in posttest, their ranking as follows: the acceptance of the scientific attitude, the pleasure in science class, the commonness of a scientist, the social meaning of science, the attitude to scientific exploration, the vocational interest in science, the concern over science as a hobby. Also they were all statistically significant at a significant level p<0.05. However, the test revealed that there were some negative effects on the social meaning of science and the attitude to scientific exploration and therefore it is judged that in order to overcome those influences, some bright articles about solving the environment contamination should be applied to the lessons and be complemented effectively by experiments and various media: NIE as well as science magazines, data from Internet search and treatises on science.

  • In the present day. there has been concern to improve the environment which included with no age limit and disability. But many buildings differentiate people with disabilities from people with non-disabilities and it is problem that infringe upon impartiality. Because people have a variety of age, disability, health-condition and so forth, they do not want to a target of special relation. As an alternative plan, it is necessary to introduce the universal design which is able to use for every body and all-round environment. Based on universal design, this paper reports what can be apply from building service from building and proposes basic of the spatial building service to improve the quality of life of people.

  • Gasoline engines have proven their utility in light, medium and heavy duty vehicles. Concern about long term availability of petroleum and the environment norms by the increased vehicular emission have mandated the search for safe fuel. CNG is an environmentally clean alternative to the existing spark ignition engines with the advantages of minimum change. A higher octane number and a higher self ignition temperature make it an attractive gaseous fuel. The thermal efficiency is better than gasoline for the same engine. The reduced carbon mono oxide, carbon di-oxide, hydrocarbon emissions is a favorable outcome along with a slight increase in $NO_x$ emission when compared with gasoline fuel to a dual fuel mode in the existing spark ignition engines. The result from the experiment shows that CNG could be a potential substitute fuel that maintains performance and emissions characteristics in gasoline engines.

  • The coastal waters and the adjacent coastal lands strongly influenced by each other and includes islands, transitional and intertidal ares, salt marshes wetlands and beaches. We focus on the coastal zone because of its unique geographical characteristics, Its ecological and economic importance, and the increasing pressures on its integrity. Our coastal zone have been controlled individually about 50 of a different kind of laws, as a result, to reach an individual purpose of the laws, people have developed the coastal zone without considering environmental condition, which brought about ecological destruction, pollution and devastation of the coastal areas. Finally, In 1999, the Coastal Management Act and the Wetlands Conservation Act were established and hereafter the environmental concern has been increased. They will be an important role to preserve our environment of coastal zone. Here I will examine the Laws concerned with environmental management of coastal zone and indicate immanent problems of it. So, I expect that problems will be improved one by one through this paper.

  • Officers and ratings as a group might show differences in some aspects of personality , human relations, job attitudes, perception of business environment and surrounding organizational structure. It has been traditionally believed that licenced-officers are required to have nicely-paired leadership and dignity , and ratings obedience in maritime field. This survey revealed that officers and ratings have some differences in the actual behavior, knowledge , understanding attitude etc., In summary , officers as a superstructure of merchant ship's orgnaization are different, to some degree, from ratings as an infrastructure in several aspects. Officers are believed to have the characteristics of maturity by taking concern of business environment , social circumstance away from the vessels which they are on board. In contrast, ratings are greatly interested in the surrounding environment associated with themselves, and also experiencing alienation and technology.

  • Apartments recently built have been strategically designed in many ways, and one of the most striking aspects is to utilize the idea of environmental friendliness and the application to the living environment. Especially, the number of environmentally friendly apartments that concern the health of residents have been increasing and their landscape is notably differentiated. The purpose of this research study was to examine the landscape of the environmentally friendly apartments that have been built in the past five years, and to assess its features in the aspects of therapeutic garden. Based upon the review of previous studies, this study constructed a checklist that was used to evaluate the planning components of the landscape during site visits. This study found that overall landscape selected in the study was well-planned. However, it was suggested that more features of therapeutic garden such as vegetation area which both encourages interaction with residents and produces therapeutic benefits be adopted in planning the advanced therapeutic garden of environmentally friendly apartments.
