자유 곡면체의 엔벨롭 생성 (Envelope Generation for Freeform Objects)

  • Swept volume is the sweeping region of moving objects. It is used in various applications such as interference detection in assembly design, visualization of manipulator motions in robotics, simulation of the volume removal by a cutter in NC machining. The shape of swept volume is defined by the envelope, which is determined by the boundary of moving objects and its direction of motion. In order to implement the generation of swept volume, researchers have taken much effort to develop the techniques how to generate the envelope. However, their results are confined to envelope generated only in simple shape objects, such as polyhedra or quadric surfaces. This study provided the envelope generation algorithm of NURBS objects. Characteristic points were obtained by applying the geometric conditions of envelope to NURBS equations, and then characteristic curves were created by means of interpolating those points. Silhouette edges were determined in the following procedures. First, two adjacent surfaces which have the same edge were found from B-Rep data. Then, by taking the scalar product of velocity vector of a point on that edge with each normal vector on two surfaces, silhouette edges were discriminated. Finally, envelope was generated along moving direction in the form of ruled surfaces by using both the partial information between initial and final position of objects affecting envelope along with characteristic curves and silhouette edge. Since this developed algorithm can be applied not only to NURBS objects but also to their Boolean objects, it can be used effectively in various applications.

  • Research on the caustic, the envelope of light rays, began with the geometric optics studies of Huygens and others in the 17th century. One of the most important problems in optics in the 17th century was focusing the sun's rays. This was a problem that had to be solved in order to manufacture various practical optical instruments at the time. Beginning with research on the caustic during this period, the concept of envelope became generalized and expanded to various fields until the 19th century. This paper examines the mathematical history involved in the study of envelope curves. We compare several methods of defining the envelope and provide an example of calculating the envelope accordingly.

Modeling and Analysis of Drift Error in a MSSG with Double Spherical Envelope Surfaces

  • To improve the sensing accuracy of the newly developed magnetically suspended sensitive gyroscope (MSSG), it is necessary to analyze the causes of drift error. This paper build the models of disturbing torques generated by stator assembly errors based on the geometric construction of the MSSG with double spherical envelope surfaces, and further reveals the generation mechanism of the drift error. Then the drift error from a single stator magnetic pole is calculated quantitatively with the established model, and the key factors producing the drift error are further discussed. It is proposed that the main approaches in reducing the drift error are guaranteeing the rotor envelope surface to be an ideal spherical and improving the controlling precision of rotor displacement. The common problems associated in a gyroscope with a spherical rotor can be effectively resolved by the proposed method.

  • Stereographic method is a general and basic method to analyse sliding failure potential of rock slope. Region of failure analysis using stereographic method extend to curved slope from straight slope in this paper, Curved slope is defined as the multi-face slope with free surface more than two face and has different characteristics from straight single face slope. Individual daylight envelopes of free surfaces are combined into total daylight envelope of multi-face slope. So, sliding envelope of multi-face slope is the daylight envelope except friction cone. Specially, If only single joint set is developed in the slope, single plane sliding(or plane failure) is impossible in the single-face straight slope, but possible in the multi-face slope. In the multi-face slope with only one joint set, single plane sliding occurs when orientation of sliding plane is between two side slope orientation in the sliding envelope.

  • It is well known that the peak strength envelope of geomaterials with no cohesion, such as sand, gravel and rockfill, exhibits significant curvature over a range of stresses. In a practical design of slope, however, the linear Mohr-Coulomb's failure envelope is used as a failure criterion and consequently gives inaccurate safety factors, especially for some ranges of small normal stresses on shallow failure surfaces. Necessity of a nonlinear shear strength envelope in slope stability analysis is on this point. Hence, this study describes how to evaluate nonlinear shear strength of gravel fill materials using the results of large triaxial tests under consolidated-drained condition, and compares the safety factors from slope stability analyses for a homogeneous gravel fill or rockfill embankment incorporating the non-linearity of strength, so as to show its effects on safety factors.

백색광주사간섭계에서 편광을 고려한 반사시 위상 변화에 대한 연구 (Phase change on reflection in a white-light interferometer as polarization is changes)

  • 백색광주사간섭계는 금속 물질의 반사시 발생하는 위상 변화에 의해 금속의 두께 측정에서 수십 나노 미터(nm)의 오차를 갖는다. 실제로 반도체 공정이나 초 정밀가공 부품에 많이 쓰이는 금, 은, 알루미늄, 크롬 등의 금속은 약 10∼30 nm의 측정 오차를 야기 시킨다. 본 논문에서는 수치 해석을 통해 백색광의 편광을 고려한 반사시 위상 변화에 의해서 간섭무늬의 두 정점, 위상 정점과 가시도 정점이 이동함을 보인다. 또한 백색광의 두 편광성분, 수직 편광성분과 수평 편광성분에 의해 재구성된 간섭 무늬식을 제안한다.

  • 진공금속증착법(vacuum metal deposition, 이하 VMD)는 비다공성과 반다공성 표면의 잠재지문을 현출하는데 효과적이다. VMD는 일반적인 기법으로 현출할 수 없거나 어려운 표면에 유류된 지문을 현출하는 경우에서 활용할 수 있다. VMD 기법이 권장되는 표면은 비닐, 폴리머 지폐, 마그네틱 코팅 처리가 된 티켓 등이 있다. 본 연구에서는 택배 봉투로 주로 사용되는 분홍색 고밀도 폴리에틸렌 봉투(HDPE)와 저밀도 폴리에틸렌 봉투(LDPE)에 지문을 유류한 뒤 최소 12시간부터 최대 28일이 경과한 지문을 현출하기 위한 금의 최소 투입량을 탐색하였다. 그리고 그 결과를 흑색분말, 형광분말의 효과와 비교하였다. 또한, 실제로 배송에 사용된 택배 봉투를 수거한 다음 HDPE와 LDPE로 분류하고 pseudo-operation test를 시행하였다. 그 결과, VMD는 HDPE와 LDPE 표면에서 비교적 일관된 지문 현출 결과를 보여주었다.

  • The phase change upon reflection from target surfaces in white-light interferometer induces measurement errors when target surfaces are composed of dissimilar materials. We prove that this phase change on reflection considered of the polarization of the white-light causes the shift of both envelope peak position and fringe peak position of several tens of nanometer. In addition, we propose a new equation of white-light interference fringe pertinent to the polarization of source.

Analysis of surface design and panel optionsfor freeform building

  • Roof and exterior wall are designed and constructed in a manner that prevents the accumulation of water within the wall and roof assembly in the formal building. However, in a freeform building there is no clear distinction between exterior wall and roof. In other words, the exterior walls and roof systems of the freeform building are integrated as a surface, unlike the formal building envelope. Therefore, freeform architecture needs a systemized envelope design method to perform functions of exterior wall and roof. However, in many cases, construction methods for roof and exterior wall are applied to freeform buildings without necessary alterations, which lead to incomplete design, leakage, cracks and other problems. Freeform architecture is thus designed and constructed differently from formal buildings. In order to more easily and inexpensively actualize freeform architecture, Building Information Modeling (hereinafter referred to as BIM) has recently been applied in the construction industry. The studies and case analysis are not sufficient to identify the implications and contributions of freeform buildings in future similar projects. Therefore, this research will study design and construction methods for freeform surfaces. This study attempts to analyze the pros and cons of each method for the concrete surface frame, and then presents the panel options for envelope system of the freeform architecture.
