  • The waveguide Bragg gratings have been fabricated by the phase-mask method. An excimer laser with maximum 600mJ output pulse energy and uniform phase masks have been used. Hydrogen loading is often used for enhancing the uv photosensitivity of the core, however, the resultant gratings show significant aging effect. In the present study, high temperature thermal annealing process has been investigated to obtain thermal gratings and process parameters are deduced.

  • 1-Dodecylazacycloheptan-2-one (Azone) is a new agent that enhances the percutaneous penetration of a number of different chemicals. BVDU and FEAU were evaluated for their potential efficacy in the treatment of cutaneous herpes simplex virus infections by in vitro studies through hairless mouse skin. This study demonstrates the value of penetration enhancing agent (Azone) and the need for a predictable evaluations in the development of topical antiviral agents.

  • Phytoestrogens are naturally occurring compounds derived from plants. Structurally, some phytoestrogens resemble endogenous estrogen of humans and animals. Phytoestrogens exhibit estrogen agonist/antagonist properties and have many biological effects such as prevention of hormone-dependent breast cancer, anti-oxidative activity, inhibition of tyrosine kinase activities and inhibition of angiogenesis. In this study we investigated whether biochanin A, a phytoestrogen, and its metabolites such genistein, p-ethylphenol and phenolic aic affect IL-4 production in EL-4 thymoma cell-line and primary lymph node cells. • This experiment was conducted to find out optimum priming treatment conditions to the sesame seed as a preliminary study for enhancing sesame germination properties. Effective priming agents and concentrations for sesame seed were $K_3PO_4$, 200 mM and PEG6000, -1.0 MPa respectively. Optimum priming temperature and duration were $15^{\circ}C$, 4 days in view of germination speed and germination percentage. PEG6000 with -1.0 MPa was selected as an efficient priming treatment condition at $15^{\circ}C$, 4 days. This study suggested that priming treatment to sesame seed would be an effective technique enhancing sesame seed germination and shortening time to the $T_{50}$ at the field condition, but the efficiency of priming treatments to the sesame seed would be strongly dependent on individual or integrated conditions of priming agent, concentration, temperature and duration etc.

  • We developed an in vitro assay method for evaluating plant growth promotion and providing an evidence that the growth promotion is rendered by growth enhancing factors. The amendment of culture filtrates of Trichoderma harzianum T95 and Gliocladium virens G872 and G872B in Murashige and Skoog (MS) agar medium enhanced the cotyledon growth of cucumber in terms of fresh weight and primary leaf area of cucumber cotyledon cuttings, of which the treatment of G. virens G872B was the most effective. The mycelial culture filtrate of G872B was more effective in the growth promotion than its conidial germling filtrate. The addition of 1% sucrose in MS mineral medium with 0.1% culture filtrates of the antagonists (T95 and G872B) was optimum for enhancing the effect of the filtrates on the growth of cotyledon cuttings in vitro. When cucumber seeds treated with G872B, Pseudomonas putida Pf3 or the G872B-Pf3 mixture were planted in a greenhouse, the rate of seed germination, biomass of shoot and root, and yield of cucumber fruits were increased, especially by G872B or the G872B-Pf3 mixture. Correspondingly, cucumber fruit yields in early to middle-cycles of harvest were significantly greater in the plots of G872B than the control and Pf3-treated plots, and the final yield was highest in the plots of the G872B-Pf3 mixture applications.

  • Clenbuterol, a selective ${\beta}_2-adrenergic$ receptor stimulant, has been introduced as a potent bronchodilator for patients with bronchial asthma, chronic obstructive bronchial disease, chronic bronchitis and pulmonary emphysema. The percutaneous permeation of clenbuterol was investigated in hairless mouse skin after application of 50/50 buffer(pH 10)/propylene glycol solvent mixture. The enhancing effects of various penetration enhancers such as terpenes, non-ionic surfactants, pyrrolidones, fatty acids and some other enhancers on the permeation of clenbuterol were evaluated using Franz diffusion cell. Among terpenes studied, 1,8-cineole was the most effective enhancer, which increased the permeability of clenbuterol approximately 39.33-fold compared with the control without penetration enhancer, followed by menthone with enhancement ratio of 23.57. Nonionic surfactants did not have significant enhancing effects. N-Lauryl-2-pyrrolidone increased the permeability of clenbuterol approximately 4.51-fold compared with the control. Lauric acid increased the permeability of clenbuterol approximately 35.57-fold with decreasing the lag time from 2.64 to 0.52 hr. Oleic acid, linoleic acid, linolenic acid and capric acid showed enhancement ratio of 22.62, 19.60, 17.45 and 16.51, respectively. $Labrafil^{\circledR}$ enhanced the permeability of clenbuterol 9.24-fold compared with that without enhancer.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the differential effect of workforce diversity on employee productivity and its subsequent impact on customer experience. Research design, data and methodology: A once-off cross-sectional research design was used in this study where the Zimbabwean civil service was targeted. Randomization was used to collect 324 validated responses. The study focused on both primary (age and gender) and secondary (education and political affiliation) dimensions of workforce diversity. Results: The results were confirmatory that workforce diversity is a significant predictor of employee productivity (β = 0.668, P < 0.05), at the same time employee productivity holds explanation to customer experience by 37%. Results also revealed that gender diversity, educational diversity and political diversity were significant determinants of workforce diversity (P < 0.05). However, the study established that age diversity was not a significant factor in enhancing employee productivity (P > 0.05). Conclusions: The study concluded that workforce diversity is a powerful tool in enhancing both customer experience and employee productivity. As such, the latter can be augmented through shrewd workforce diversity practices as championed by management. To that end, the study recommends the development of a workforce diversity framework which promotes inclusivity.

  • To survive in a global competition, many companies are trying to standardize and visualize Business Process (BP) by implementing Business Process Management (BPM). Recently, enhancing business process efficiency has become one of critical success factors. In this paper, we introduce a two-phase perspective of BP efficiency: Process Engine Perspective (PEP) and Task Performer Perspective (TPP). The former is related to allocation function of BP engine; it is mainly concerned with efficient task allocation to users. The latter phase influences efficiency depending on how users execute tasks assigned to them. Instead of considering each phase separately, we develop a comprehensive method considering the two-phase together, which is more effective for the BP efficiency. We carry out simulation experiment to show the combinational effect of the two phases.
