The study intends to seek the creative ideas that can satisfy the needs of individual consumers by rediscovering the modern meaning and the artistic value of geometric ornaments engraved on the backside of Danyugyung, which is a traditional Korean pattern. In terms of the study method, the symbolic meaning and formative characteristics of Danyugyung were determined, and the form of its pattern and the geometric characteristics were analyzed. Based on this, Photoshop and illustrations were used to apply the shapes of Danyugyung and internal patterns to the textile designs, and the results are as follows. Firstly, it was found that Danyugyung was associated with the bronze mirror, which was used from the Bronze Age to the Early Iron Age, and was the product of artistic activities and an object and acted as a shamanistic and authoritative symbol of the ruling parties, which were responsible for the acts related to the spiritual world. Secondly, it was discovered that forms of Danyugyung were classified into Jomungyung and Semungyung in accordance with Forms of Danyugyung (造飾), and the formative features of the geometric ornaments that were engraved in great detail on the backside could be found in the images which change according to the form of the inner patterns. Thirdly, with regard to the development of the textile designs utilizing the shape and inner patterns of Danyugyung based on the formative features, it was could discover that the simple shape of Danyugyung presented a value which can be applied as a unique design factor delivering a visual rhythm by attempting to create various harmonies overlapping lines engraved on the inner patterns and the shapes of Danyugyung. Based on the above-mentioned outcomes, the possibility was confirmed that Danyugyung can be used as a novel motif and as a standard unit of patterns for textile design. With future studies, I would like to utilize the unique and diverse images as pattern motif for textile design.
In printed electronics, printing rolls are used to transfer electronic ink onto a flexible substrate. Generally printing rolls are being made by the indirect laser method which is based on the etch process, thus not environment-friendly and not suitable for making a large printing roll. For the pursuit of making a large printing roll for mass printing of electronic devices, we have directly engraved micro-patterns into a Zn plated printing roll using a 30W pulse-modulated fiber laser. We have successfully engraved line patterns ranging from about 15-30${\mu}m$ in width.
To engrave high-density circuit-line patterns in IC substrates, we applied a projection ablation technique in which a dielectric ($ZrO_2/SiO_2$) mask, a DPSS UV laser instead of an excimer laser, a refractive beam shaping optics and a galvo scanner are used. The line/space dimension of line patterns of the dielectric mask is $10{\mu}m/10{\mu}m$. Using a ${\pi}$ -shaper and a square aperture, the Gaussian beam from the laser is shaped into a square flap-top beam; and a telecentric f-${\theta}$ lens focuses it to a $115{\mu}m{\times}105{\mu}m$ flat-top beam on the mask. The galvo scanner before the f-${\theta}$ lens moves the beam across the scan area of $40mm{\times}40mm$. An 1:1 projection lens was used. Experiments showed that the widths of the engraved patterns in a buildup film ranges from $8.1{\mu}m$ to $10.2{\mu}m$ and the depths from $8.8{\mu}m$ to $11.7{\mu}m$. Results indicates that it is required to increase the projection ratio to enhance profiles of the engraved patterns.
In this paper, a machine vision system for recognizing and classifying the patterns and marks engraved by die molding or laser marking on the glass panels of computer monitors is suggested and evaluated experimentally. The vision system is equipped with a neural network and an NGC pattern classifier including searching process based on normalized grayscale correlation and adaptive binarization. This system is found to be applicable even to the cases in which the segmentation of the pattern area from the background using ordinary blob coloring technique is quite difficult. The inspection process is accomplished by the use of the NGC hypothesis and ANN verification. The proposed pattern recognition system is composed of three parts: NGC matching process and the preprocessing unit for acquiring the best quality of binary image data, a neural network-based recognition algorithm, and the learning algorithm for the neural network. Another contribution of this paper is the method of generating the training patterns from only a few typical product samples in place of real images of all types of good products.
Due to the fact that the dimensions of circuit lines of IC substrates have been forecast to reduce rapidly, engraving the circuit line patterns with laser has emerged as a promising alternative. To engrave circuit line patterns in an IC substrate, we used a projection ablation technique in which a metal (INVAR) mask and a DPSS UV laser instead of an excimer laser are used. Results showed that the circuit line patterns engraved in the IC substrate have a width of about 15um and a depth of $13{\mu}m$. This indicates that the projection ablation with a metal mask and a DPSS UV laser could feasibly replace the semi-additive process (SAP).
The pattern shape engraved on the gravure printing roll is one of the most important factors influencing ink transfer. This study focuses on the relations between dot geometry engraved on gravure printing roll and the ink transfer during the gravure printing process. The influence of dot width on printed patterns will be demonstrated. Results reveal that as the width of a dot on the printing roll increases, the ink transfer rate also increases. But over a certain size of width, surface uniformity began to recede. Therefore, proper dot geometry on the printing roll should be decided to guarantee good printing quality according to printing conditions and expected performance of the electronic devices.
We proposed new light guide panel (LGP) fabrication method exploiting laser-processed inner scatterers and surface pattern. The proposed method has achieved LGP performance improvement in both brightness and uniformity. The inner scatterers and surface pattern of grid type were fabricated with a 2nd harmonic Nd:YAG pulse laser engraving system and a $CO_2$ laser scanning system, respectively. In the implementation of LGP, inner scatterers was arranged in accordance with linear or curved pattern with changing density and surface pattern was engraved on the surface of an inner-scatterers embedded LGP. The increase of scatterers' density and the use of surface patterns in both linear and curved pattern provided high luminance and uniformity enhancement. While thecurved pattern incorporated with increased scatterers' density and surface patterns yielded brightness improvement with preserving good uniformity, the linear pattern showed highly localized brightness near the light entrance of the LGP. We can also observe that the uniformity was mainly determined by pattern of inner scatterers, and the brightness was improved by the higher density and the utilization of surface patterns. From the results, the use of laser-processed inner and surface patterns can be a potential alternative for efficient and simple LGP fabrication method.

We propose a novel application of laser engraving to patterning of light guide panel (LGP) for backlight. The feasibility of three-dimensional engraved pattern in the LGP was verified by measuring brightness and uniformity. To improve the overall uniformity, we have modified proposed patterns and found improved design for patterns. The tailoring of pattern by using laser engraving method could endow the controllability of uniformity. The proposed LGPs are more efficient in both average brightness and uniformity of illumination than the conventional LGPs which have surface pattern on the panel.
In this paper, we analyzed the effects of doctoring process on the patterns of Ag ink in gravure off-set printing. The parameters of doctoring process were the angle and the pressure, which was represented by the depth of blade movement to the gravure roll, of doctor blade to the surface of gravure roll, and the angle of patterns engraved on the gravure roll to the doctor blade moving direction. The proper parameters were extracted for the fine patterns and they were 15 mm for the pressure, $60^{\circ}$ for the blade angle. And the angle of patterns with respect to the blade movement should be less than $40^{\circ}$ for the best results. The gravure off-set printing with the above parameters was carried out to print gate electrodes and scan bus lines of OTFT-backplane for e-paper. The line width of $50{\mu}m$ was successfully obtained. The thickness of electrodes was $2.5{\mu}m$ and the surface roughness was $0.65{\mu}m$ and the sheet resistance was $15.8{\Omega}/{\Box}$.
