Cost Effectiveness of Bse-Isolation for Bridges in Low and Moderate Seismic Region (중저진 지역에서의 지진격리교량의 경제적 효율성에 관한 연구)

  • Minimum life-cycle cost helps to evaluate cost effectiveness of base-isolated bridges under specific condition. Life-cycle cost mainly consists of the initial construction cost and the expected damage cost. Damage cost estimation needs proper model of input ground motion failure probability evaluation method and limit states definition. We model the input ground motion as spectral density function compatible with the response spectra defined at each seismicity and site condition. Spectrum analysis and crossing theory is suitable for reseating calculation of failure probabilities in the process of cost minimization. Limit states of base-isolated bridges re defined for superstructure isolator and pier respectively The method is applied to both base-isolated bridges and conventional bridges under the same conditions to investigate cost effectiveness of base isolation in low and moderate seismic region. the results show that base-isolation of bridges are more effective in low and moderate seismic region and that the site effects on the economical efficiency may not be negligible in such a region.

  • The porvision against earthquakes and aseismic design of nuclear power plants (NPPs) in Korea are composed of four stages: site-selection, design, construction, and operation stages, Since regulatory criteria are strictly applied in each stage, the NPPs in Korea are believed to have a sufficient safety against maximum potential earthquakes. However, it has been recognized that those regulatory criteria borrowed from U.S. should be replace by Korea-specific ones by using earthquake data obtained from earthquake observation at and around NPP sites. Also, the government made a plan after the Yongwol and th Kyongju earthquakes that the regulatory body operates an independent earthquake network in order to reinforce the earthquake preparedness of NPPs. In compliance with the government's plan, this project is aiming at deployment of an earthquake motoring network composed of four seismic stations at NPP sites to record earthquake ground motions at NPP sites, to derive attenuation formulas of various ground motions and site-specific response spectra, and to develop structural intergrity assesment program.

  • The structural behaviors under wheel loads are much different from those under uniform loads which are generally adopted for the design of parking garage. In such a viewpoint, the structural behavior of a Half-PC concrete underground parking garage under wheel loads was investigated using the site instrumentations. The static wheel loads were applied on the structure to evaluate the actual static resistance, and moving load tests were also performed to evaluate the impact factors of the structure. Besides, the impact tests were also conducted to estimate the modal parameters of the structure. Through the experimental investigations, it was found that the structural performance of the underground parking garage can be improved by use of structural type such as Half-PC concrete structures.

  • Steel lining board usually is used as a floor on the temporary steel bridges. It also is installed in the subway construction site. However, in particular in subway construction, renovations and site of old bridges, these steel lining board structures have a problem such as noise, accidents and slip hazards. So steel composite lining board is being developed to solve this problem. Steel composite lining board consists of compressive concrete showing excellent performance in slip, durability, resistance and noise, lower tensile and shear steel showing high safety, effective and superior workability in many respects. Steel composite lining board structure gradually is used in many construction sites, because it has a high quality such as durability, little noise and slip. In this study, flexural tests of steel composite lining board in accordance with welding patterns were conducted to compare the performance of the structure.

  • This research was verified detection way of intercept vehicles and performance evaluation after system installation using image detector as detection way of ground installation. By image recognition algorithm was on the trace of moving orbit of violation vehicles for detection way of intercept vehicles. When moving orbit is located special site, utilized geometric image calibration and DC-notch filter. These are cognitive system of license plate by making signal. Then, Bright Evidence Detection and Dark Evidence Detection were applied to after mixing. It is applied to way of Backward tracking for detection way of intercept vehicles. After the field evaluation of developed system, it should be analyzed the more high than recognition rate of minimum standards 80%. It should rise in the estimation of the site applicability is highly from now.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop an efficient model for the least cost design of multi-site detention systems. The IDP (Incremental Dynamic Programming) model for optimal design is composed of two sub-models : hydrologic-hydraulic model and optimization model. The objective function of IDP is the sum of costs ; acquisition cost of the land, construction cost of detention basin and pumping system. Model inputs include channel characteristics, hydrologic parameters, design storm, and cost function. The model is applied to the Jung-Rang Cheon basin in Seoul, a watershed with cetention basins in multiple branching channels. The application results show that the detention system can be designed reasonably for various conditions and the model can be applied to multi-site detention system design.

  • The research is an objective which prevents a construction noise by developing prediction program on utility, helps comprehension of construction noise by case study. The program developed with Visual Basic of the Excel Logic. The standard noise is a data with report of the construction machine (National Institute of Environmental Research), construction noise of sound pressure level applied the distance decrease of the point source. The decrease effect of the barrier noise wall used the data of 5, 10, 15, 20dB where the diffraction is reflected. used a program, case study is suggested Prevention method to prevent noise of construction site.

  • Sensitivity analyses for several seismic source models were studied. For the area sources, the hazard is steeply decreasing with the source-to-site distance. Hazard is decreasing when the area of the source is increasing with fixed annual rate. For the fault sources, the fault length, distance from a site and dip angle of near fault show very sensitive effect to seismic hazard. But the various magnitude-rupture length relationships show effect to seismic hazard slightly. For the fault source with small magnitude, the exponential model is preferred rather than the characteristic model to the magnitude-recurrence law.

Spatial and temporal distribution of driving rain on a low-rise building

  • This paper presents a practical numerical method to determine both the spatial and temporal distribution of driving rain on buildings. It is based on an existing numerical simulation technique and uses the building geometry and climatic data at the building site as input. The method is applied to determine the 3D spatial and temporal distribution of wind-driven rain on the facade a low-rise building of complex geometry. Distinct wetting patterns are found. The important causes giving rise to these particular patterns are identified : (1) sweeping of raindrops towards vertical building edges, (2) sweeping of raindrops towards top edges, (3) shelter effect by various roof overhang configurations. The comparison of the numerical results with full-scale measurements in both space and time for a number of on site recorded rain events shows the numerical method to yield accurate results.

  • The purpose of this paper is to examine the empirical analysis for charging factors and the evaluation models of internet site. Thus this is to analyze the revenue creation factors affecting the customer satisfaction of tourism information sites in the Internet. Based on the regression model applied to a customer survey, this study shows that among the characteristics of the site, technical factor and community factor have the most significant effect on charging factor and customer satisfaction.
