This study is conducted to investigate the effect of phase change materials (PCM) on hydration heat and strength characteristics of cement mortar. Two types of Barium and Strontium-based PCMs were used in this study and the addition ratio of each PCM to the cement mortar ranged from 1% to 5% by cement weight. Flow test, semi-adiabatic temperature rise test, compressive strength and flexural strength test were carried out to examine the PCM effect on heat and mechanical properties of cement mortar. Test results indicated that PCMs used in this study were effective to control hydration heat of cement mortar, and Barium-based PCM slightly reduce flow value. The compressive and flexural strength of cement mortar with PCM decreased with increasing the adding mount of PCM. The prediction model for compressive strength of cement mortar with different addition levels of PCMs are suggested in this study.

We encapsulate the core materials which have long term resisting properties to the insect. We also try to apply those capsules to the mortar and concrete which is used for the structures and ornament materials. Various membrane structures and sizes of microcapsule are tested and construction properties of the mortar and concrete which contain microcapsules are examined. The capsuled are confirmed by SEM and optical microscope. Finally the microcapsules with anti-insect which can be used for the mortar and concrete are developed through the various experiments and mock-up tests.

In this study, the fundamental properties of cement mortar in relation to the change of the replacement ratio of the RA(Reject-Ash) were analyzed by mixing RA to the mixed aggregate consisting of poorly graded fine rock aggregate and marine aggregate for quality improvement. It was found that replacing 5% of the mixed aggregate with RA could improve the quality of the aggregate to the degree of fine rock aggregates.

As coal fly ash emissions have increased due to additional constructions of domestic heat power plants, the amount of embedded reject ash (Rj henceforth) is increasing as well. Most Rj is embedded, so if it is used as an alternative admixture instead of cement, embedded quantities will decrease, leading to economic and environmentally positive effects. Therefore this study conducted an experiment to contemplate the usability of Rj ground in the Los Angeles abraser, and what effects ground Rj has on the engineering properties of high compressive strength mortar. The result was that as the number of grinding turns increased, liquidity, air quantity and intensity were improved, proving Rj a possible alternative admixture to cement.

In this study, three levels of solid capsules were prepared according to the composition ratio of core materials for the crystal growth type self-healing solid capsule, and a cement mortar was prepared with the crystal growth type self-healing solid capsule. The prepared solid capsule was mixed with 3% of the cement mass to evaluate the healing properties according to the crack induction age of the cement mortar. As a result of test, the crack healing properties according to the crack induction age of cement mortar mixed of solid capsules, it was confirmed that the self-healing performance of the cement mortar with the solid capsules was increased self-healing performance of 7 days than 28 days. This is because the unhydrated binder remains.
Mortar is produced with different degrees of temperature and ratios of admixture materials. In order to produce strength mortar, the degree of temperature and the ratio of admixture materials must be optimized. This paper examines experimental effects by applying certain degrees of temperature and ratios of admixture materials to statistically understand the changes in the strength of mortar. The Taguchi method is used for the above-mentioned optimization problem. Firstly, factorial ANOVA is used to investigate the difference of means between the experiments. Due to the significant differences in obtained means, the regression analysis is applied. On the other hand, the effects of the varying degrees of temperature and admixture ratios are presented via 3D plots. Finally, the statistical results of ANOVA and Taguchi indicate that degree of temperature and the different ratios of admixture materials can affect the behaviour of mortar under the tests.
In this study, we studied on the durability of restorative cement mortar for deteriorated concrete at complex deteriorated conditions as variation of temperature and of humidities. We made a comparison between restorative materials with insulation function and restorative materials without insulation function in items of compressive and bending strength and permeability of water, durability for carbonation, salt damage, diffusion coefficient of salt at complex deterioration conditions like change of temperature, change of humidity, For insulation, we used close-pore type Alumino-Silicate lightweight aggregate and substituted 12 wt% and 15 wt% out of original restorative cement mortar without insulation function. As a result, it was found that original restorative cement mortar without insulation function fail to meet Korean Standard on polymer modified cement mortar for maintenance in concrete structure, but restorative cement mortar with insulation function is in contentment Korean Standard to meet excellent than restorative materials without insulation function for durability at complex deteriorated conditions.
In this study, the strength properties of alkali-activated silica fume (SF) mortars were investigated. The crushed limestone sand with maximum size of 0-5 mm and the sodium meta silicate ($Na_2SiO_3$) used to activate the binders were kept constant in the mortar mixtures. The mortar specimens using the replacement ratios of 0, 25, 50, 75 and 100% SF by weight of cement together with $Na_2SiO_3$ at a constant rate were produced in addition to the control mortar produced by only cement. Moreover, the mortar specimens using the replacement ratio of 4% titanium dioxide ($TiO_2$) by weight of cement in the same mixture proportions were produced. The prismatic specimens produced from eleven different mixtures were de-moulded after a day, and the wet or dry cure was applied on the produced specimens at laboratory condition until the specimens were used for flexural strength ($f_{fs}$) and compressive strength ($f_c$) measurement at the ages of 7, 28 and 56 days. The $f_{fs}$ and $f_c$ values of mortars applied the wet or dry cure were compared with the results of control mortar. The findings revealed that the $f_c$ results of the alkali activated 50% SF mortars were higher than that of mortar produced with Portland cement only. It was found that the $f_{fs}$ and $f_c$ of alkali-activated SF mortars cured in dry condition was averagely 4% lower than that of alkali-activated SF mortars cured in wet condition.

This study aimed to mix and test mortar incorporating activated Hwangtoh to improve the Hwangtoh brick bond strength of brick structures. To do this, the bond strength correlation of mortar was analyzed by means of materials and experiment factors and levels, and the optimum conditions were suggested after analyzing the physical properties of brick and the mix ratio of mortar and additive. Furthermore, the compressive strength and bond strength were found to be in inverse proportion, and in terms of the materials and mixing level, W/C ratio, substitution ratio of activated Hwangtoh, and fine aggregate grading were shown to have a considerable influence on the strength. In conclusion, the optimum mixing conditions to improve the bond strength are found to set W/C ratio at 65% and replacmenet ratio of activated Hwangtoh at 10%.
