Utilization of organic waste as a renewable energy source is promising for sustainability and mitigation of climate change. Pyrolysis converts organic waste to gas, oil, and biochar by incomplete biomass combustion. Biochar is widely used as a soil conditioner and adsorbent. Biochar adsorbs/desorbs metals and ions depending on the soil environment and condition to act as a nutrient buffer in soils. Biochar is also regarded as a carbon storage by fixation of organic carbon. Phosphorus (P) and nitrogen (N) are strictly controlled in many wastewater treatment plants because it causes eutrophication in water bodies. P and N is removed by biological and chemical methods in wastewater treatment plants and transferred to sludge for disposal. On the other hand, P is an irreplaceable essential element for all living organisms and its resource (phosphate rock) is estimated about 100 years of economical mining. Therefore, P and N recovery from waste and wastewater is a critical issue for sustainable human society. For the purpose, intensive researches have been carried out to remove and recover P and N from waste and wastewater. Previous studies have shown that biochars can adsorb and desorbed phosphates implying that biochars could be a complementary fertilizer. However, most of the conventional biochar have limited capacity to adsorb phosphates and nitrate. Recent studies have focused on biochar impregnated with metal salts to improve phosphates and nitrate adsorption by synthesizing biochars with novel structures and surface properties. Metal salts and metal oxides have been used for the surface modification of biochars. If P removal is the only concern, P adsorption kinetics and capacity are the only important factors. If both of P and N removal and the application of recovery are concerned, however, P and N desorption characteristics and bioavailability are also critical factors to be considered. Most of the researches on impregnated biochars have focused on P removal efficiency and kinetics. In this study, coffee waste is thermally treated to produce biochar and it was impregnated with Mg/Al to enhance phosphates and nitrate adsorption/desorption and P bioavailability to increase its value as a fertilizer. Kinetics of phosphates and nitrate adsorption/desorption and bioavailability analysis were carried out to estimate its potential as a P and N removal adsorbent in wasewater and a fertilizer in soil.
In this paper, the effect of AC ripple on the lifetime of lithium-ion batteries is experimentally analyzed. Bidirectional power conversion system(PCS) is used to increase the efficiency of energy storage systems (ESS). When connected to the grid, a current ripple with a frequency twice the grid frequency is applied to the battery due to its structure. Therefore, to analyze the effect of AC ripple on Li-ion battery aging, cycle life test are performed by applying charge/discharge profiles of DC current and DC+AC current ripple specifications. Based on the experimental results, direct current internal resistance (DCIR), incremental capacitance (IC), and surface temperature were analyzed. As a result, it is confirmed that AC ripple does not directly affect degradation and that battery degradation slows down after a certain cycle. These results can serve as a guideline for optimizing filters to reduce ripple on the battery side in applications where AC ripple occurs.

Purpose The domestic aquaculture industry in South Korea utilizes both formulated feeds and live feeds for the cultivation of fish. While nutrient-rich live feeds, particularly using fry, have been preferred since the past, formulated feeds are gaining attention due to issues related to overfishing and environmental concerns. Formulated feeds are advantageous for storage and supply but require a sustained feeding regimen due to the comparatively slower growth rate compared to live feeds. As the aging population in rural areas leads to a shortage of labor, automated feeding systems are increasingly being adopted in aquaculture facilities. To enhance the efficiency of such systems, it is crucial to quantitatively analyze the behavioral changes in fish based on the presence or absence of feed. Design/methodology/approach In the study, RGB cameras and infrared cameras were used to analyze fish activity according to feeding, and an outline extraction algorithm was applied to analyze the differences resulting from this. Findings Unlike RGB cameras, infrared cameras are more suitable for analyzing underwater fish activity as they convert objects' thermal energy into images. It was observed that Canny, Sobel, and Prewitt filters showed the most distinct identification of fish activity.

In winter, the excessive use of deicing salt deteriorates concrete pavement durability. To reduce the amount of deicing salt used, phase-change materials (PCMs) potentially offer an alternative way to melt snow through their latent heat storage characteristics. In this research, thermal energy storage concrete was developed by using PCM-impregnated expanded clay as 50 % replacement to normal aggregate by volume. In addition, to improve the thermal efficiency of PCM lightweight aggregate (PCM-LWA)-incorporated concrete, multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were incorporated in proportions of 0.10 %, 0.15 %, and 0.20 % by binder weight. Compressive strength testing and programmed thermal cycling were performed to evaluate the mechanical and thermal responses of the PCM-LWA concrete. Results showed a significant strength reduction of 54 % due to the PCM-LWA; however, the thermal performance of the PCM-LWA concrete was greatly improved with the addition of MWCNTs. Thermal test results showed that 0.10 % MWCNT-incorporated concrete had high thermal fatigue resistance as well as uniform heat flow, whereas specimens with 0.15 % and 0.20 % MWCNT content had a reduced thermal response due to supercooling when the ambient temperature was varied between -5℃ and 10℃.

In this study, rainwater-greywater hybrid system was installed and operated for 1 year in order to evaluate its water quantity, water quality, and economic efficiency in building no. 39. This system was expected to overcome each disadvantages of and maximize each advantages. Low-greywater that was washed up from shower room was treated by MBR (Membrane Bioreactor) and ozone oxidation. Rainwater that was collected from the rooftop was stored in a reservoir, and then transferred to the storage tank that was mixed with treated greywater. After 1 year operating in building no. 39, rainwater and greywater was used to supply $2,599m^3$ of toilet flushing water. In terms of water quality, rainwater was satisfied far the greywater reuse standards except for E.coli. Moreover, low greywater quality was acceptable except for E. coli, BOD, SS, and turbidity. In addition, economic analysis was obtained from benefit-cost ratio (B/C) with 1.11. It implies that the feasibility of the project was reasonable. Furthermore, various research and policy to improve the economic efficiency of water recycling facilities is required to expand the use of water recycling facilities.
This study presented techno-economic analysis of a 500 MWe oxy-coal power plant with CO2 capture. The power plant included a circulating fluidized-bed (CFB), ultra-supercritical steam turbine, flue gas conditioning (FGC), air separation unit (ASU), and CO2 processing unit (CPU). The dry flue gas recirculation (FGR) was used to control the combustion temperature of CFB. One FGR heat exchanger, one heat exchanger for N2 stream exiting ASU, and a heat recovery from CPU compressor were considered to enhance heat efficiency. The decrease in the temperature difference (ΔT) of the FGR heat exchanger that means the increase in heat recovery from flue gas enhanced the electricity and exergy efficiencies. The annual cost including the FGR heat exchanger and FGC cooling water was minimized at ΔT = 10 ℃, where the electricity efficiency, total capital cost, total production cost, and return on investment were 39%, 1371 M$, 90 M$, and 7%/y, respectively.

Crude oil is complex mixture of thousands of different organic compound formed from a variety of organic materials that are chemically converted under differing geological conditions over long periods of time. Also oil composition varies according to crude source, refining, processing, handling and storage. The oil fingerprint method is application of specific knowledge of petrochemicals and use of sophisticated analytical equipment and techniques to identify the source(s) of oil pollution. KNMPA currently utilizes three primary analytical techniques: Gas Chromatography (GC), Fluorescence Spectroscopy(FL) and Infrared Spectroscopy(IR). Of all these techniques, GC technique are most widely used. Gas Chromatography is used as a primary analytical method because high reliableness, high separating efficiency and repeatability, but it is timeconsumable. The study results of identification of waterborne spilled oil by Fast Gas Chromatograph method showed that analytical time is cut down to 30minutes in comparison with packed column method and chromatograms represent high resolution and high repeatability.

This study concerns the transmission of energy and data using induced electromotive force. Due to the requirements of weapon systems, most arms are kept in an armory for a very long time before being used. During this time, the reserve battery, which serves mostly as a power supply for the electronic fuze, can be degraded, thus causing problems when it is actually needed. We attempt to solve the various problems associated with the old fuze system caused by long-term storage by using the 'induction power' transmitted from another device just before its operation, instead of using 'built-in power'. We tried to find the best carrier frequency to communicate with the system by induced electromotive force. Also, we changed the communication method for transmitting the 'induction power' from 'FM/AM modulation' to 'Duty ratio modulation', which can transmit a large amount of data in a short time. Through experiments, it was demonstrated that the induction coil can replace the reserve fuze's battery without any problem, thus confirming the possibility of using an induction coil as the power supply source of the electronic fuze.
