  • In order to understand the economic feasibility of an offshore wind farm, this paper analyzed the differences in LCOE (levelized cost of energy) according to the support type and construction method of the substructure in terms of LCOE and sensitivity analysis was conducted according to the main components of LCOE. As for the site to be studied, the Southwest Offshore Wind Farm was selected, and the capital expenditures were calculated according to the size of the offshore wind farm and the installation unit. As a result of the sensitivity analysis, major components showed high sensitivity to availability, turbine related cost, weighted average cost of capital and balance of system related cost. Moreover, the post-piling jacket method, which was representatively applied to the substructure of the offshore wind farm in Korea, was selected as a basic plan to calculate the capital expenditures, and then the capital expenditures of the pre-piling jacket method and the tripod method were calculated and compared. As a result of analyzing the LCOE, it was confirmed that the pre-piling jacket method of the supporting structure lowers the LCOE and improves economic feasibility as the installation number of turbines increases.

  • This article describes a snake robot with 2-DOF actuator modules. The 2-DOF actuator modules make the snake robot move in the 3D space so that the snake robot can cross obstacles and rough terrain. Each 2-DOF actuator module is designed to have high torque output and an embedded controller. A cross bracket connecting the modules is designed be able to support the weight of two actuator modules. The developed snake robot shows 3-D motions such as side winding, standing/monitoring, and can climb in a narrow pipe with high torque modules. The snake robot moves fast with passive wheels in a plane while crossing obstacles.

  • Recent modeling of thermal nonequilibrium processes in simple molecules like hydrogen and nitrogen has indicated that rotational nonequilibrium becomes as important as vibrational nonequilibrium at high temperatures. In the present work, in order to analyze rovibrational nonequilibrium, the rotational mode is separated from the translational-rotational mode that is usually considered as an equilibrium mode in two- and multi-temperature models. Then, the translational, rotational, and electron-electronic-vibrational modes are considered separately in describing the thermochemical nonequilibrium of nitrogen behind a strong normal shock wave. The energy transfer for each energy mode is described by recently evaluated relaxation time parameters including the rotational-to-vibrational energy transfer. One-dimensional post-normal shock flow equations are constructed with these thermochemical models, and post-normal shock flow calculations are performed for the conditions of existing shock-tube experiments. In comparisons with the experimental measurements, it is shown that the present thermochemical model is able to describe the rotational and electron-electronic-vibrational relaxation processes of nitrogen behind a strong shock wave.

  • The IUE low dispersion spectra of AZ Cas have been analyzed for line identifications and energy distribution in ultraviolet region. Highly ionized atoms, SiIV and CIV are identified. We could infer a temperature range of the B star between 15,000K and 20,000K. The energy density distribution shows a hump between IUE short wavelength and long wavelength regions. Photometric and spectroscopic elements were revised based on the Florkowisk photeelectric observations and collected radial velocities. The temperature of both stars were reduced as 16,000K and 3,800K. The radii of both stars are $10 R_{\odot}\;and\;320R_{\odot}$. The eccentricity and longitude of periastron are 0.61 and $10.5^{\circ}$, respectively.

  • Despite the advantages offered by multilevel inverters, one of the main drawbacks that prevents their widespread use is their circuit complexity as the number of power switches employed is usually high. This paper presents a new multilevel inverter topology with a considerable reduction in the number of power switches used through the switch-sharing approach. The fact that the proposed inverter applies two bidirectional power switches for sharing among the three phases does not prevent it from producing seven levels in the line-to-line output voltage waveforms. A modified scheme of space vector modulation via the application of virtual voltage vectors is developed to generate the PWM signals of the power switches. The performance of the proposed inverter is investigated through MATLAB/SIMULINK simulations and is practically tested using a laboratory prototype with a DSP-based modulator. The results demonstrate the satisfactory performance of the inverter and verify the effectiveness of the modulation method.

  • In order to improve the frontal crash performance of an Aluminum Space Frame Vehicle, this presents a systematic optimal design process to maximize the crush energy absorption capacity of side-members while satisfying the maximum displacement constraint. In this study, five design types are studied for selecting a good collapse initiator. Then, for the selected collapse initiator type, 7 design variables are defined to represent cross section shape, thickness and bead interval. The systematic optimization processor, R-INOPL uses DOE, RSM and numerical optimization techniques. R-INOPL uses only 14 analyses to solve the 7 design variable optimization problem the final design can improve 103.9% of the internal energy and reduce 13.9% of the maximum displacement.

  • In general, rocket or satellite circuit designers focus on reducing temperature of electronic devices in order to enhance electronic unit's reliability. This paper describes the quantitative analysis result of activation energy as well as device temperature effects to the system reliabilities. The quantitative analysis result shows that activation energy of device has more effects on system reliability than temperature does. And this paper suggests a strategy for enhancement of reliability during devices placement on PCB with simulation results.

  • The shopping center in underground passage for efficient space utilization is increased in urban area. This study describes operation characteristics of HVAC systems with ventilation and individual heating and cooling unit for shopping center in underground passage. In order to compare energy saving, thermal environment and installation space, etc., an integrated simulator with heat production and distribution system was designed and constructed. Energy delivery efficiency is improved over 20%, and energy saving of the hybrid system is calculated as over 30% compared to conventional all air type in the case of heating. And also the results showed that humidity decreased about $5{\sim}6%$, also characteristics of thermal control is improved over 34%.

  • We developed the low energy electron detector (LEED) for KITSAT-B which was launched on September 26, 1998. The sensor head is mounted on the top of the satellite so that it can measure the precipitating electron flux along the Magnetic field line in the auroral zone at 820 km altitude. The detector system is composed of 4 parts : the electrostatic analyzer, the spira10on detector, the discriminator / Preamplifier, and the interface to the spacecraft. The analyzer limits the access to the spiraltron only to the electrons of certain energies which are determined by the electrostatic field across the two coaxial cylindrical analyzer plates. The energy spectrum of the detector in consideration is about 100 eV to 6.7 KeV, which is swept in 1.6 seconds and divided into 16 bins. It 81so is 1.6 second reset period after each swept, We will discuss the technical features of the system as well as the future observational schedule.
