  • In this paper we analyze the environmental advantages of district heating system. We construct three econometric models to analyze the energy consumption and economic cost as well as the emission of the major pollutants like $SO_x$, $NO_x$, DUST, and $CO_2$. As the size of heating supply is larger, the district heating system is evaluated to be better than other heating systems environmentally and costly in the long run. Especially, the district heating reduces $SO_x$ emission significantly when the size of heat production is large. But the advantages of district heating system are very sensitive to the fuel mix and heat source.

  • Interstate electric power system, as an alternative for energy cooperation under regional economic bloc, has been hotly debated before progressing the restructure in electric power industry and rapidly expanded in many regions after 1990s. Especially, since northeast asia has strong supplementation in resource, load shape, fuel mix etc., interconnection of electric power systems in this region may bring considerable economic benefits. For the economic analysis, we implement ORIRES model developed by ESI, Russia. ORIRES is a linear programming (LP) model for electric power system operation and planning. Since ORIRES requires data relatively less than other model, it is suitable for northeast asia that has considerable restriction against required data acquisition. In this paper, we perform an economic analysis on interconnection in northeast asia.

  • Multi -walled carbon nanotube(MWNT)/poly(methyl methacrylate) composites were fabricate d through film casting. Manufacturing process was established using a ultrasonic cleaner and a homogenizer. Acetone was used as a solvent to melt PMMA and mix with MWNT. The ultrasonic cleaner performed an important role in producing MWNT/MMA nanocomposites. Ultrasonic energy was utilized to disperse MWNT in acetone. Also, melting PMMA in acetone and mixing MWNT and PMMA were achieved using the homogenizer. It was confirmed that the nanohlbes were well dispersed in PMMA according to SEM images.

  • The competition for water for municipal, industrial and agricultura and agricultural uses is growing keener as the world fooe and energy crises are intensifying. It is therefore becoming important how systems engineering techniques can be used to plan effectively for the future development of water supply and waste water management systems in a regional area. The feasible direction method and the out-of-kilter algorithm enable us to find the least-cost mix of alternative allocation networks. The interaction between land use patterns and urban water resources, and the environmental impact of alternative policies are discussed.

  • The concrete industry of developing countries like India consumes majority of natural resources. The increase in population has necessitated the construction of more and more structures. Further many structures have completed their life span or have undergone damages thus warranting the demolition of these structures. India produces approximately 23.75 million tons of recycled concrete aggregate (RCA) annually. The natural resources are depleting at a higher rate with the increasing demand of concrete industry. This difficulty can be reduced with the use of RCA in land fill and concrete manufacturing. Use of RCA can provide cost savings and better energy utilization. This paper presents mechanical behavior of concrete comprising successively recycled concrete aggregate. Mechanical properties of recycled concrete get affected with number of recycling. In mix design successive recycled concrete aggregate (SRCA) was used in place of natural aggregates (NA) with 100% replacement. The test results of the compressive, flexural strength and pulse velocity were obtained for 14 and 28 days of curing age which showed significant improvement in results.

  • To address mounting concerns over global warming, the Paris Agreement was reached in December 2015, which aims to limit the increase in global average temperature. South Korea has set a highly ambitious target to reduce emissions and submitted an Intended Nationally Determined Contribution (INDC). Based on the INDC, we investigated the impact of limiting carbon emissions on the power system and the electricity market in Korea. Through detailed simulations on assumed plausible scenarios, this work highlights a) the effects of different carbon emission targets on the annual carbon emission volumes, generation costs, and carbon price; b) the generation mix changes induced by carbon emission limits; and c) the difference in system marginal price and payments for generator owners that carbon emission constraint creates in electricity markets under three different pricing rules.

  • Metallic foams have a combination of attractive properties such as high specific mechanical properties and good energy absorption characteristics. This paper presents the properties of steel foam sandwiches produced using powder metallurgy approach. Metallic powder, solid polymeric binder and a foaming agent are dry-mixed and molded into the desired shape. The molded powder mix is then heat-treated to foam, debind and sinter the material. The resulting material has an open cell structure with high porosity. The structure and properties of sandwiches specimens produced with the process are presented and discussed.

  • By including the overlap integrals between atomic orbitals, the modified cluster orbitals for a metal cluster of face centered cubic lattice are found. The modified analytic solutions of the cluster are obtained from them with the assumption that the cluster orbitals with different state indices do not mix together. The physical properties-the HOMO levels and the unit electronic energies-of Ni, Pd, and Pt clusters of various size, calculated by the modified cluster orbital method, agree better with the results obtained by the Extended Huckel calculation than those of the previous(unmodified) cluster orbital method do. As a result, it is verified that the physical properties, at least those related to the energy levels, obtained by the Extended Huckel method may be reproduced by use of the modified cluster orbital method instead.

  • This study was designed to examine the change in physical properties of extruded brown rice-vegetable mix at different pregelatinized brown rice contents and $CO_2$ gas injection. Moisture content, screw speed and die temperature were fixed to 30%, 100 rpm and 60, respectively. $CO_2$ gas injection was adjusted to 0, 300, 600, and 800 mL/min. The content of vegetables (carrot, pumpkin, kale and Angelica keiskei) mix was fixed 5%. Pregelatinized and raw brown rice powder were blended as the ratio of 0/95, 30/65 and 50/45. Specific mechanical energy input decreased as pregelatinized brown rice ratio increased. Expansion index increased and the size and number of pores increased but density decreased with the increasing in $CO_2$ gas injection. Gelatinization degree increased as $CO_2$ gas injection increased. In conclusion, cold extrusion with $CO_2$ gas injection at $60^{\circ}C$ die temperature could be applied for Saengsik (uncooked food) making.
