  • This study leverages group-based control theory to explore how fresh starts reinvigorate consumers with low motivation to engage in collective environmental efforts. Typically, individuals with low control over their circumstances show less inclination toward collective goals. However, fresh starts can enhance the influence of perceived control on collective environmental engagement, with global identity mediating this relationship. This hypothesis was supported by two empirical studies. The first study analyzed data from 10,430 corporate participants in an energy-saving initiative, revealing that smaller organizations, which likely experience lower levels of control, made substantial energy-saving efforts early in the year, although this effect diminished over time. The second study of 108 college students found that a fresh start mindset and desire for control, mediated by global identity, enhance environmentally responsible behaviors. These findings suggest that fresh starts can effectively connect control perceptions with proactive environmental actions, underscoring their potential to foster collective environmental efforts.

  • At present, the smart grid has become one of the indispensable infrastructures in people's lives. As a commonly used communication method, wireless communication is gradually, being widely used in smart grid systems due to its convenient deployment and wide range of serious challenges to security. For the insecurity of the schemes based on large integer factorization and discrete logarithm problem in the quantum environment, an identity-based key management scheme for smart grid over lattice is proposed. To assure the communication security, through constructing intra-cluster and inter-cluster multi-hop routing secure mechanism. The time parameter and identity information are introduced in the relying phase. Through using the symmetric cryptography algorithm to encrypt improve communication efficiency. Through output the authentication information with probability, the protocol makes the private key of the certification body no relation with the distribution of authentication information. Theoretic studies and figures show that the efficiency of keys can be authenticated, so the number of attacks, including masquerade, reply and message manipulation attacks can be resisted. The new scheme can not only increase the security, but also decrease the communication energy consumption.

  • Wireless Sensor Networks consist of small, inexpensive, low-powered sensor nodes that communicate with each other. To achieve a low communication cost in a resource constrained network, a novel concept of signcryption has been applied for secure communication. Signcryption enables a user to perform a digital signature for providing authenticity and public key encryption for providing message confidentiality simultaneously in a single logical step with a lower cost than that of the sign-then-encrypt approach. Ring signcryption maintains the signer's privacy, which is lacking in normal signcryption schemes. Signcryption can provide confidentiality and authenticity without revealing the user's identity of the ring. This paper presents the security notions and an evaluation of an ID-based ring signcryption scheme for wireless sensor networks. The scheme has been proven to be better than the existing schemes. The proposed scheme was found to be secure against adaptive chosen ciphertext ring attacks (IND-IDRSC-CCA2) and secure against an existential forgery for adaptive chosen message attacks (EF-IDRSC-ACMA). The proposed scheme was found to be more efficient than scheme for Wireless Sensor Networks reported by Qi. et al. based on the running time and energy consumption.

  • The gas phase identity nucleophilic substitution reactions of halide anions (X = F, Cl, Br) with cyclopentadienyl halides (1) are investigated at the B3LYP/6-311+G**, MP2/6-311+G** and G2(+)MP2 levels involving five reaction pathways: σ-attack $S_N2$, β-$S_N$2'-syn, β-$S_N$2'-anti, γ-$S_N$2'-syn and γ-$S_N$2'-anti paths. In addition, the halide exchange reactions at the saturated analogue, cyclopentyl halides (2), and the monohapto circumambulatory halide rearrangements in 1 are also studied at the same three levels of theory. In the σ-attack $S_N2$ transition state for 1 weak positive charge develops in the ring with X = F while negative charge develops with X = Cl and Br leading to a higher energy barrier with X = F but to lower energy barriers with X = Cl and Br than for the corresponding reactions of 2. The π-attack β-$S_N$2' transition states are stabilized by the strong $n_C-{\pi}^{*}_{C=C}$ charge transfer interactions, whereas the π-attack γ-$S_N$2' transition states are stabilized by the strong $n_C-{\sigma}^{*}_{C-X}$ interactions. For all types of reaction paths, the energy barriers are lower with X = F than Cl and Br due to the greater bond energy gain in the partial C-X bond formation with X = F. The β-$S_N$2' paths are favored over the γ-$S_N$2' paths only with X = F and the reverse holds with X = Cl and Br. The σ-attack $S_N2$ reaction provides the lowest energy barrier with X = Cl and Br, but that with X = F is the highest energy barrier path. Activation energies for the circumambulatory rearrangement processes are much higher (by more than 18 kcal $mol^{-1}$) than those for the corresponding $S_N2$ reaction path. Overall the gas-phase halide exchanges are predicted to proceed by the σ-attack $S_N2$ path with X = Cl and Br but by the β-$S_N$2'-anti path with X = F. The barriers to the gas-phase halide exchanges increase in the order X = F < Br < Cl, which is the same as that found for the gas-phase identity methyl transfer reactions.
