Purpose: With the implementation of the Act on Life Sustaining Treatment, hospice-palliative care will be extended to non-cancer diseases including the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). However, there are concerns about negative perceptions and prejudice toward AIDS patients. The purpose of this study was to investigate factors related with willingness to volunteer (WV) for patients with end-stage AIDS among hospice volunteers. Methods: Participants were 326 hospice volunteers from 19 institutions. A self-administered questionnaire was employed to investigate the participants' WV for end-stage AIDS patients, and the questions were answered using an 11-point rating scale. Demographics, volunteer activity, satisfaction with hospice volunteering, knowledge of AIDS, and attitudes towards AIDS patients (i.e., fear AIDS patients, negative attitude towards AIDS patients, personal stigmatization and stigmatizing attitude) were also investigated. A multiple regression analysis was performed to examine factors associated with WV for patients with end-stage AIDS. Results: WV for patients with end-stage AIDS was 2.82 points lower than that for cancer patients (P<0.001). The multiple regression analysis showed that the higher the level of satisfaction with hospice volunteering (P=0.002) and the lower the level of "personal stigmatization" (P<0.001), participants showed greater WV for end-stage AIDS patients. Conclusion: The level of satisfaction with hospice volunteering and "personal stigmatization" were factors associated with participants' WV for patients with end-stage AIDS.

Fibre to the home (FTTH) in KOREA has grown rapidly in recent years. The number of FTTH subscribers exceeded 6.6 millions by end of DEC 2008. It seems that FTTH has moved from the initial, the growth stage to the mature stage. Some design techniques have been developed in order to construct the access network effectively for the mature stage. This paper deal with design, construction and maintenance of optical fibre access networks immediately, effectively and economically.
A robust end time optimal conかof strategy for dual-stage servo system is presented. The time optimal trajectory for a mass-damper system is determined and given os a reference input to the servo system. The feedback controller is constructed so that the fine stage tracks the coarse stage errors and robustly designed as the“perturbation compensated sliding mode control(PCSMC)”law, a combination of slid-ing mode controller(SMC) and perturbation observer(PO). In addition, a null motion controller which regulates the fine stage at its neutral position is designed based on the“dynamic consistency”So, the overall dual-stage servo system exhibits the robust and time-optimal performance. The inherent merit and performance of the dual-stage system will be shown.
In this paper, we design and construct the equipment to manufacture large-diameter optical fiber end caps, which are the core parts of high-power fiber lasers, and we fabricate large-diameter optical fiber end caps using the home-made equipment. This equipment consists of a CO2 laser as a fusion-splice heat source, a precision stage assembly for transferring the position of a large-diameter optical fiber and an end cap, and a vision system used for alignment when the fusion splice is interlocked with the stage assembly. The output of the laser source is interlocked with the stage assembly to control the output, and the equipment is manufactured to align the polarization axis of the large-diameter polarization-maintaining optical fiber with the vision system. Optical fiber end caps were manufactured by laser fusion splicing of a large-diameter polarization-maintaining optical fiber with a clad diameter of 400 ㎛ and an end cap of 10×5×2 ㎣ (W×D×H) using home-made equipment. Signal-light insertion loss, polarization extinction ratio, and beam quality M2 of the fabricated large-diameter optical fiber end caps were measured to be 0.6%, 16.7 dB, and 1.21, respectively.

Direct-conversion RF front-end for 5-GHz WLAN is implemented in $0.18-{\mu}m$ CMOS technology. The front-end consists of a low noise amplifier, and low flicker noise down-conversion mixers. For the mixer, an inductor is included to resonate out parasitic tail capacitances in the transconductance stage at the operating frequency, thereby improves the flicker noise performance of the mixer, and the overall noise performance of the front-end. The receiver RF front-end has 6.5 dB noise figure, - 13 dBm input IP3, and voltage conversion gain of 20 dB with the power consumption of 30 mW.

The geometry parameter of tool such as rake angle and clearance angle is defined clearly to solve the difference in communication between design and measurement stage. Using the developed simulation program, wheel is properly determined and end mill can be manufactured accurately. The performance test with well defined end mill provides sufficient information to decide optimal geometry. For machining hardened steel, end mills are designed and manufactured. Optimal rake angle and clearance angle is obtained from performance test. A specific software for automatic end mill production is developed far simulation and fur generation of NC code as Cad/CAM system.

A low noise and low power RF front-end for 5.8 GHz DSRC (Dedicated Short Range Communication) receiver is presented. The RF front-end is composed of a single-to-differential two-stage LNA and a Gilbert down-conversion mixer. In order to remove an external balun and 5.8 GHz LC load tuning circuit, a single-to-differential LNA with capacitive cross coupled pair is proposed. The RF front-end is fabricated in a 0.13 ${\mu}m$ CMOS process and draws 7.3 mA from a 1.2 V supply voltage. It shows a voltage gain of 40 dB and a noise figure (NF) lower than 4.5 dB over the entire DSRC band.

To elucidate the mechanism of age-related development in FGS/NgaKIST mice with spontaneous glomerulosclerotic lesion, we examined expression and localization of various cytokine mRNA in the kidney in the progression of diseases. This mouse model is the first to develop spontanously occuring glomerosclerotic lesion in the kidney. In this study, we detected the up-regulation of local cytokine genes such as IL-1$\beta$, IL-2, IL-6, IL-10, TNF-$\alpha$, TGF-$\beta$, and IFN- $\gamma$ in the kidneys. In RT-PCR and Southern blot analysis, we detected gradual expressions of cytokine mRNA of IL-1$\beta$, IL-2, IL-6, IFN- $\gamma$, and TNF $\alpha$ mRNA during the course of disease. Other cytokines including IL -10 and TGF -$\beta$ were found to be appeared the slightly expressed level at 3 to 12 weeks before onset of inflammatory lesion but they are highly expressed at the end-stage of the disease accompaning high proteinurea and wasting. In situ RT-PCR, each cytokine mRNA were specifically localized in a variety of cells including mesangial, endothelial, parietal epithelial, tubular epithelial, arterial muscle cell, and infiltrated inflammatory cells. In addition, TNF - $\alpha$was detected moderately in the visceral and parietal epithelial cell, but weakly in endothelial and mesangial cells, whereas IL-1 $\beta$ and IL -6 were strong in mesangial regions. IL-6 and TNF- $\alpha$ was highly localized in the damaged proximal and collecting tubules. Especially, TGF -$\beta$ mRNA was highly found in mesangial cells within glomerulus and interstitium during the end-stage of this disease.. These results indicate that pro inflammatory cytokines such as IL-1 $\beta$, IL-2, IL-6, and TNF- $\alpha$ were gradually expressed from the early stage of this disease to the end-stage, and that IL-10 and TGF-$\beta$ may be important in the accumulation of extracellular matrix(ECM) within glomerulus and periglomerular fibrosis in the progression of this disease as well as tissue destruction in end-stage of this disease.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the change processes for exercise behaviors in each stage. Method: Participants for this study were randomly selected from adults between the ages of 20-44. Data were collected using questionnaires over a 2 week period at the end of May, 2003. The instrument, Stages of exercise behavior change developed by Marcus et al. (1992b), and the instrument, Changing phases of exercise behaviors developed by Nigg et al. (1999) and translated by Kwon (2002) were used to investigate the behaviors. Result: 1. Related to stage of exercise behavior change of participants, it was found that 55.2% of participants exercised regularly. 2. Among the change processes according to stage of change showed that dramatic relief was the most frequently used process for all stages. Environmental reevaluation and social liberation were used most in the contemplation stage, while environmental reevaluation and stimulus control were used most in the preparation stage. In addition, scores for stimulus control and environmental reevaluation were high in the action stage. In the maintenance stage, social liberation and counter-conditioning were used most frequently. 3. The process of exercise behavior change which differentiates the stages of exercise behavior change were shown to be counter-conditioning, which was an influential factor that differentiates the contemplation stage and maintenance stage. Conclusion: The results suggest that change process management should be the focus to enhance the stage of change for exercise in this group.
This paper presents the development of a 3D printer based piezo-driven vertical micro-positioning stage. The stage consists of two flexure bridge structures which amplify and transfer the horizontal motion of the piezo-element into vertical motion of the end-effector. The stage is fabricated with ABS material using a precision 3D printer. This enables a one-body design eliminating the need for assembly, and significantly increases the freedom in design while shortening fabrication time. The design of the stage was optimized using response surface analysis method. Experimental results are presented which demonstrate 100nm stepping in the vertical out-of-plane direction. The results demonstrate the future possibilities of applying 3D printers and ABS material in fabricating linear driven motion stages.
