직사각형판(直四角形板)의 접수진동(接水振動) (The Vibration of an Elastic Rectangular Plate in a Fluid)

  • It is a well-known phenomenon that, in the case of vibrations of an elastic body in a fluid such as water, the presence of the surrounding fluid has the effect of lowering the natural frequencies of the vibration as compared with those in air or vacuum on account of the increased inertia, i.e. added mass. In this report, defining the mass increase factor as the ratio of added mass to vibration mass of the body in air, the author investigated the mass increased factor of an elastic plate vibrating in the fluid. It is assumed that the edges of the plate are simply supported, and that the surrounding fluid is an infinite ideal one. For the problem formulation the elliptical cylindrical coordinate system is adopted, so that a rectangular plate may be represented by a sheet degenerated from an elliptical cylinder. By virtue of the coordinate system adopted, plates which are chordwisely finite and lengthwisely contineous could directly be treated, but plates which are chordwisely finite in both directions could not be treated directly. For the latter, hence, plates which are chordwisely finite and lengthwisely semi-finite are investigated as an appropriate approximation. Some examples of the mass increase factor are numerically calculated for the fundamental mode and modes of zero or one nodal line in each direction with the range of the aspect ratio from 1 to 10 or more.

평판에서 타원공의 형상에 따른 피로도지수 (Fatigue Quality Index of Elliptical Holed Plate)

  • Most of mechanical structures are composed of many substructures connected to one another by various types of mechanical joints with various shapes of cutouts. It is important to study these connected structures under dynamic forces for evaluation of stress concentration. In this paper, a FQI(fatigue quality index) analysis using the concept of SF(severity factor) is performed to various shape of elliptical hole. The SF is affected by the location of cutout in plate and radius ratio, static SF is analyzed with finite element analysis and the equation of FQI for predicting a dynamic SF is formed.

박형 초음파모터의 최적 설계 (Optimal Design of Thin Type Ultrasonic Motor)

  • In this study, novel structured thin ultrasonic rotary motor has been proposed. Ultrasonic motors are based on an elliptical motion on the surface of elastic body. Thin brass plate was used as a cross shaped vibrator and eight ceramic plates were attached on upper side and bottom side of the brass plate. From the thin stator, elliptical displacements of the four contact tips were obtained. To find the optimal size of the stator, motions of the motors were simulated using ATILA by changing length, width and thickness of the ceramics. The stators had commonly three resonance peaks and contact tips of the stator moved on tangential or normal trajectories at these resonance peaks. The maximum displacements at the resonance peaks were compared. As results, maximum displacements of the contact tips were obtained at the length of 16 mm, width of 6 mm and thickness of 0.4 mm. Changes of the resonance frequencies were inversely proportional to the length of ceramic and proportional to the width of ceramic. The motor was fabricated by using the designed stator. And, the characteristics of the motor were compared with the simulated results. When the motor was fabricated with these results, speed fo 935 rpm was obtained by input voltage of 25 Vrms at 93.5 kHz.

타원형 및 원형 평판의 자유 진동 (Free Vibration of EllllIipticall and Circular Plates)

  • 본 연구에서는 Rayleigh-Ritz method를 사용하여 타원형(원형 포함) 평판의 자유 진동 문제를 해석한다. admissible함수로서는 단순 다항식의 곱(products of simple polynomials)을 사용한다. 이 함수는 다항식의 첫 항의 차수를 0,1 또는 2로 함으로써 각각 자유, 단순 지지 또는 고정인 경계 조건을 간편히 처리할 수 있게 하며, 에너지식에 포함된 적분값을 계산함에 있어서 점화식을 유도하여 사용함으로써 계산을 매우 간편히 수행할 수 있게 한다. 본문의 이론 해석은 직교 이방성 타원형 평판에 대해서 제시된다. 그러나 수치 결과는, 이방성의 다양한 조합에 대한 많은 결과를 제시하는 것은 그다지 의미가 없는 관계로, 등방성 평판에 대해서 주어진다. 등방성 평판의 여러 가지 세장비에 대한 결과는 설계 데이터로써 활용될 수 있을 것이다. 덧붙여 대표적으로 세장비가 0.5인 평판에 대해서 nodal pattern이 그림으로 제시된다.

A BEM implementation for 2D problems in plane orthotropic elasticity

  • An improvement is introduced to solve the plane problems of linear elasticity by reciprocal theorem for orthotropic materials. This method gives an integral equation with complex kernels which will be solved numerically. An artificial boundary is defined to eliminate the singularities and also an algorithm is introduced to calculate multi-valued complex functions which belonged to the kernels of the integral equation. The chosen sample problem is a plate, having a circular or elliptical hole, stretched by the forces parallel to one of the principal directions of the material. Results are compatible with the solutions given by Lekhnitskii for an infinite plane. Five different orthotropic materials are considered. Stress distributions have been calculated inside and on the boundary. There is no boundary layer effect. For comparison, some sample problems are also solved by finite element method and to check the accuracy of the presented method, two sample problems are also solved for infinite plate.

  • This paper is a study on a linear ultrasonic motor with a first longitudinal$(L_1)$ and fourth bending $(B_4)$ double-mode rectangular plate. The stator vibrator is composed of an elastic material plate and of a piezo-ceramic element having a motion by electrical excitation. Each strain vector differs by $90^{\circ}$ generate travelling wave with the elliptical displacement motion of a point on the surface. To magnify displacement of longitudinal direction in elliptical displacement motion, the motor has a mechanism of the.displacement enlargement. In this paper, the vibration shape of the stator is simulated using the finite element method. A detailed model considered of the piezoelectric effect and of the exact geometry of the stator is used to calculate the displacement. The position of displacement mechanism is decided by the maximum displacement.

  • Light Guide Plate (LGP) of LCD-BLU(Back Light Unit) is manufactured by forming optical pattern with $5\~100um$ in diameter on the LGP by means of sand blasting or etching method. However, in order to improve the luminance of LCD-LGP, the design of optical pattern has introduced UV inclined-exposure process in this study. This micro-optical pattern, which has asymmetric elliptical column shaped pattern, can change low viewing-angle to high viewing-angle, as well as it contribute to diffusion of light. As a result, this type of micro-optical pattern can introduce the highly luminance. The PR structure obtained in the stage of lithography has asymmetric elliptical column shape and it is processed into a micro-optical pattern. Optical design with this kind of micro-optical pattern, mold fabrication by electroplating and LGP molding with injection molding are under way.

Strengthening of perforated walls in cable-stayed bridge pylons with double cable planes

  • This paper focuses on the strengthening methods used for improving the compression behaviors of perforated box-section walls as provided in the anchorage zones of steel pylons. Rectangular plates containing double-row continuous elliptical holes are investigated by employing the boundary condition of simple supporting on four edges in the out-of-plane direction of plate. Two types of strengthening stiffeners, named flat stiffener (FS) and longitudinal stiffener (LS), are considered. Uniaxial compression tests are first conducted for 18 specimens, of which 5 are unstrengthened plates and 13 are strengthened plates. The mechanical behaviors such as stress concentration, out-of-plane deformation, failure pattern, and elasto-plastic ultimate strength are experimentally investigated. Finite element (FE) models are also developed to predict the ultimate strengths of plates with various dimensions. The results of FE analysis are validated by test data. The influences of non-dimensional parameters including plate aspect ratio, hole spacing, hole width, stiffener slenderness ratio, as well as stiffener thickness on the ultimate strengths are illustrated on the basis of numerous parametric studies. Comparison of strengthening efficiency shows that the continuous longitudinal stiffener is the best strengthening method for such perforated plates. The simplified formulas used for estimating the compression strengths of strengthened plates are finally proposed.

Buckling optimization of laminated composite plate with elliptical cutout using ANN and GA

  • Buckling optimization of laminated composite plates is significant as they fail because of buckling under in-plane compressive loading. The plate is usually modeled without cutout so that the buckling strength is found analytically using classical laminate plate theory (CLPT). However in real world applications, the composite plates are modeled with cutouts for getting them assembled and to offer the provisions like windows, doors and control system. Finite element analysis (FEA) is used to analyze the buckling strength of the plate with cutouts and it leads to high computational cost when the plate is optimized. In this article, a genetic algorithm based optimization technique is used to optimize the composite plate with cutout. The computational time is highly reduced by replacing FEA with artificial neural network (ANN). The effectiveness of the proposed method is explored with two numerical examples.

  • Optical working machines are developed. the machines are to be used in the preparation of Nd-phosphate glass amplifier rod and elliptical disk amplifier plate of the high power Nd-YLF-phosphate glass laser amplifier system. In this report, the working principles of the machines are presented, and several results are shown by photographes, design drawing and the disks actually fabricated by using the machines.
