This research was designed to study the Korean dress design trends and different kinds of ancient patterns applied to the Korean dresses in 2001. The trend sources were collected by the HANBOK monthly journal and the symbolism of patterns associated with these patterns being used the prevalent Korean dress collection in markets. The results of the research can be summarized as following; The most of Korean dress image was elegant of ancient mode. Main colors of the traditional Korean jacket were white, yellowish white and green. However, main color of the traditional Korean skirt was represented as red. A plant pattern was the most popular pattern in a practical purpose. It looks beautiful and it is also easily manufactured with open space. Copying other patterns definitely damage the elegance of the Korean dress. It is time for us to not only keep our own traditions but also study and develop new patterns. Designers must study to develop the image and patterns which are agreed with consumer's taste.

This study is to analyze that the pluralism is the main aspect of the modem fashion which examines the definition and the character of the pluralism. This will also consider the pluralism that appeared on the modern fashion which is based on them. The main point of pluralism is that the world is necessarily aware of plural and difference. Also many values which is focused on the previous generation, for instance disorganize of westernism, androcentrictrism, christianism and powerful nationalism, what is called unfamiliar, heterogeneous, the others and the circumference things. As these were rehabilitated, morality, ethics, religion or politics were all became possible to choose for one's taste. The pluralism expressed in modern fashion can be divided as collapse of genre, grafting the lower and higher orders cultivation, variety way of approaching in time, internationalism. The result for the consideration is that the pluralism has candid attitude for everything so that in the modern fashion is importing variety range of artistic definition. Namely, it is not only containing previous pure art, elegance art and element of artistic sublime beauty, but also has aesthetics of ugliness, deconstructive art and anti-fashion so that the definition of the art is getting vagueness and diverse.

The purposes of this study are to develop a Korean image clothing design for cultural products by using the literary artist´s works and to satisfy the demand of the local self-government and of Gwangju ㆍChonnam area´s small and medium-sized companies. The image of traditional Korean clothing can be expressed with adjectives like Pure, plain, rhythmical, neatness, plentiful, and calm etc. These attributes are similar to the characteristics of the literary artist´s style, which is expressed as suggestive, animated, spatial, possibility of stationary, serene and still. The features of the traditional Korean clothing design can be described as ´The Beauty of Elegance´, ´The Beauty of Plainness´, ´The Beauty of Asymmetric Balance´ and ´The Beauty of rhythm´. It can be expressed in the modern fashion design, which is developed through the combination of the most important feature like ´The Beauty of Space´ in the literary artist´s style. At the time of production we tried to express spatial beauty and plentiful taste of the literary artist's style in the clothing design of Korean image for cultural products by considering the balance between them. Six works of the literary artist were selected which satisfied the purpose of the developed clothing design item. The results were nine clothing designs of Korean image, like a skirt suit made up of a blouse and a skirt, a pants suit made up of pants and a jacket, two evening dresses with a shawl, and also T-shirts and one-pieces etc.

The purpose of this study is to classify fashion images of senior women who have emerged as influential customers in the fashion industry. Characteristics of fashion images of senior women are identified by fashion style, preference color, and self-image. With the collected data, the Q group, consisting of Korean women who are in their 50s, was targeted using the Q methodology. The following factors were evaluated through in-depth interviews: fashion style, preference color and self-image. The fashion images of senior women were classified into the following 4 types: Characteristic modern, Reasonable basic, Comfortable contemporary, and Conservative elegance. Those classified fashion image types were influenced by the factors of nobleness, usefulness, personality, fashionableness, and youthfulness in accordance with fashion style, preference color, and self-image. The results of this study may provide basic information for fashion image planning for senior women and meaningful data for redefining and diversifying the concept of senior fashion brand which reflects the generation's changed taste and lifestyle.

This study aims to clarify the identity of contemporary Chinese fashion design by examining how the characteristics of Chinese tradition are accepted and presented in fashion under the influences of western cultures. This study performed a literature survey on related works. Also this study performed demonstrative analysis of Chinese daily newspapers (People's Daily and Xinmin Evening News, 2007-2010) and fashion collections by Chinese and Chinese descent designers(2007-2011). The results are as follows: First, China is trying to express Chinese traditional ideas and factors in the design areas, and also trying to achieve an universal generalization. Second, the Chinese designers emphasized traditional ideas and culture in their designs. The Chinese descent designers were affected more by western culture. The common aesthetic consciousness were the beauties of sophisticated and splendorous decoration, vastness and elegance. Also the compromised images, neutral images and antique images were common in both groups. Third, the Chinese designers presented fashion designs on formalized and imitation stage. Also they tried to make a metaphorical stage. The Chinese descent designers showed designs on a metaphorical stage. In conclusion, the contemporary Chinese fashion design should find the way to globalize and identity of the traditional culture code simultaneously.

This study is aimed at suggesting a linear-type diffuser which is excellent in terms of range and elegance like existing diffusers in which amount and direction of wind can be freely controled, out of linear-type diffusers with the highest possibility to be adopted for living space of apartments whose height between floors is not so high and utilizing the linear-type diffuser in design. For the purpose, I examined necessary flow and noise properties of linear-type diffusers. Besides, I evaluated its ventilation capacity for persons in there by applying this in the actual living space. I evaluated features and air blast and found that in time of horizontal and vertical effusion, its T/L ratio is 1-1.5, similar to existing cardioid-type linear diffusers, while in time of slope effusion, it is similar to horizontal effusion in terms of range and it has medium figure in terms of pressure drop and effusion speed, indicating it can provide safe and pleasant indoor environment for persons in there in terms of ventilation.

This study was performed to investigate the effect of Perilla frutescens Herba extract on the treatment of chromaticity and colorfastness. Perilla frutescens Herba has been used as a Korean medicine. It is effective in removing dangerous for an unborn child and suppressing pain. It is also good as a detoxification and in treating cold. In the long history of Korea, dyeing has been applied for a means representing the grace of natural and inner esthetic consciousness of man. Vegetable dyes give us such great benefits, diversified color, but no pollution. And ramie fabric has distinctive features such as beautiful brilliance, elegance, and strong durability. So, it is regarded as a special product of Korea traditionally. These studies were carried out to treat with acetate iron, dichloride copper and alum with a mordant to ramie fabric. The ramie fabric was died with Perilla frutescens Herba extract. The results of experiment showed as follows: First, the chromophoric degree was the highest in acetate iron but not distinction in another mordants. Second, the light colorfastness was the highest in non treated and dichloride copper, but alum was the lowest. Third, the discoloration was alum and dichloride copper showed first grade in washing colorfastness. Abrasion colorfastness was not significant in this test. According the previous results, Perilla frutescens Herba has an efficiency in removing skin disorders and suppressing pain. So it considered that Perilla frutescens Herba can be applied effectively to theraphy of detoxification and in treating cold.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the characteristic and image of oriental costume design on represented among three countries, Korea, China and Japan. The specific objectives were; 1) to identify the design characteristics of oriental costume. 2) to investigate the hierarchic structure of oriental costume image and the meaning structure of oriental costume image. The stimulus were 75 costume design of contemporary costume which represented the traditional image of orient. The main survey of questionary consisted of their evaluation of the oriental costume image by 26 semantic differential bi-polar scales and the subjects were 99 female students majoring in clothing and textiles. The data were analyze by Cluster analysis. Factor analysis, ANOVA, Scheffe test. The major findings were as follows; 1) As a result of design analysis, costume design of Korea, China, Japan had differences on form, color, texture, pattern, ornament, etc. 2) The hierarchic structure of oriental costume image consisted of elegance, sexy, feminine. Through factor analysis about oriental costume image 7 factors were identified; Attention, Attractiveness, Sexiness, Activeness, Weightness, Classics, Classics, Maturity. It was found out strongly that Korean costume image was simple and comfort image, Chinese costume image was sexy and feminine image, Japanese costume image was luxurious and mature image.

The purpose of this study were to analyze the effect of weft knit structural characteristics on the subjective texture and sensibility. For this, the material was knitted into 8 kinds of weft plain knit fabrics with four kinds of fiber components such as wool, acryl, rayon, and nylon, 3 steps of densities and 3 steps of twist numbers to ply two yarns. The data were analyzed by factor analysis, ANOVA and multidimensional scaling. From factor analysis, subjective textures were categorized as 'bulk/resilience', 'surface/density' and 'soft/drape', and subjective sensibilities were categorized as 'natural/comfortable', 'feminine/elegance' and 'stable/neat' Among the knit structural characteristics, the component of fibers and the density of fabrics were the important factors to give variations in texture and sensibility : In comparison with wool knit of medium density, the knit fabrics of other components and different densities each showed a unique texture and sensibility. But twist number to ply two yams had a few influence on subjective properties. As a result of MDS analysis, the texture and sensibility of plain weft knit fabrics was classified as 'thin-full', 'hard-soft', 'young-old' and 'warm-cool'.
