A Study on Emission Characteristics of Ar, Ne Gas Using a Single Langmuir Probe Method in Radio-Frequency Inductively Coupled Plasma (13.56MHz ICP에서 단일 탐침법에 의한 Ar, Ne 가스의 발광특성 연구)

  • In recent, there have been several developments in lamp technology that promise savings in electrical power consumption and improved quality of the lighting space. The electrodeless fluorescent lamp is intended as a high efficacy replacement for the incandescent reflector lamp in many applications. In this paper, electron temperature and electron density were measured in a radio-frequency inductively coupled plasma using a Langmuir probe method for emission characteristics. Measurement was conducted in an Argon, Ne discharge for pressure from 1 [mTorr] and input RF power 10 [W] to 150 [W]. As for the electron density, a electron temperature was more distinguished for a emission characteristic. The results of ideal may contribute to systematic understanding of a electrodeless fluorescent lamps of emission characteristics.

  • Recently, the environmental problem has received considerable attention. so, many lamps have been developing for environmental requirement and energy efficiency. also, at glow discharge lamp researchers try to reduce energy spending that is power saving lamp. this kind requirement agree with strong points of electrodeless fluorescent lamp has received to now lighting sauce. At low pressure as mTorr I.C.P make high density plasma easily, is good to maintain discharge, has high ionization and does not have failing lighting and losing ability of electron radiation by oxidation and volatilization of electrodes, because this tape does not have electrodes This point of I.C.P can use at electrodeless fluorescent lamp in this study ICP display elements and Ar, Ne, Kr are researched for optical characteristic. each gas is looked into optical characteristic, also mixed gases is experiment for optical characteristic.

A New Dimming Algorithms for The Electrodeless Fluorescent Lamp (무전극 형광램프 조광제어를 위한 새로운 알고리즘)

  • The electrodeless lamps using the induction discharge have a long lifetime and a high tolerance for the variable output conditions of a ballast since they don't need the electrodes. This paper proposed two novel dimming algorithms for the Electrodeless lamps and described the resonant inverter adopted the proposed methods. The proposed dimming algorithms are based on the conventional burst dimming method which is normally adopted for LCD back-lights. One of the proposed algorithms is a improved burst dimming method, which controls the illumination by duty ratio of $5\%$ and its control circuit is formed by simple digital logics. The other algorithm is a burst PWM average duty ratio control method, which controls the illumination by duty ratio of $1\%$ and its control circuit is formed by more complex digital logics than the first method. To verify the validity of the proposed dimming methods, a prototype experimental setup for 100W Electrodeless lamps is carried out and its results are presented in this paper.

  • As the electrodes are not needed, the electrodeless lamps using the induction discharge have a long lifetime and are robust against the variable output condition of a ballast. This paper proposed a dimmable resonant inverter for the electrodeless lamps. The proposed resonant inverter formed a half bridge inverter adopted FWM to control the average output power of the inverter and the illumination of a lamp. In this paper, the proposed dimming algorithm was described and the prototype experimental setup for 100W electrodeless lamps was carried out to verify the validity of the proposed dimming method.

  • The RF inductive discharge or inductively coupled plasma (ICP) continues to attract growing attention as an effective plasma source in many industrial applications, the best known of which are plasma processing and lighting technology Although most practical ICPs operate at 13.56 (MHz) and 2.65 (MHz), the trend to reduce the operating frequency is clearly recognizable from recent ICP developments. In an electrodeless fluorescent lamp, the use of a lower operating frequency simplifies and reduces cost of rf matching systems and rf generators and can eliminate capacitive coupling between the inductor coil and plasma, which could be a strong factor in wall erosion and plasma contamination. In this study, the configuration of ferrite and fixture which operates at the frequency of 2.65 (MHz) will be discussed, by using the electromagnetic simulation (Maxwell 2D).

  • Power supply technique for electrodeless lamps, especially Endura of Osram, is presented in this paper. The power supply uses a conventional power factor correction technique due to its proved performance. But in the inverter stage, resonant converter with parallel loading scheme is used to mitigate the variation of matching circuit characteristics by time varying load. Less performance but sufficient to predict future success compared to Osram's one is verified as a result of experiment of the prototype.

  • Power supply technique for electrodeless lamps, especially self-oscillation method, is presented in this paper for Endura of Osram. The power supply uses different method for high efficiency at high frequency operation compared to the conventional method using saturable transformer. Exact parameter tuning using simulation is suggested for effective design for real applications.
