Analysis of Heat Transmission Characteristics through Air-Inflated Double Layer Film by Using Thermal Resistance Equation (열저항식을 이용한 공기막 이중필름의 관류전열량 특성 분석)

  • This study was carried out to analyze heat transfer characteristics and heat flow through air-inflated double layer PO film with thermal resistance method. The experiments was conducted in the laboratory controlled air temperature between 258.0 K and 278.0 K. The experimental materials were made up two layers PO film and an inflated-air layer. The thickness of air-inflated layer was fixed at 3 types of 110, 175, 225 mm. The electrical circuit analogy for heat transfer by conduction, radiation and convection was introduced. Experimental data shows that the dominant thermal resistance in heat transfer through the air-inflated double layer film was convection. Calculation errors were 1.1~18.5 W for heat flow. In result, the method of thermal resistance could be introduced for analysis of heat flow characteristics through air-inflated double layer film.

A fundamental study on the development of feasibility assessment system for utility tunnel by urban patterns (도심지 유형별 공동구 설치 타당성 평가시스템 개발에 관한 기초 연구)

  • The road network system of major domestic urban areas such as city of Seoul was rapidly developed and regionally expanded. In addition, many kinds of life-lines such as electrical cables, telephone cables, water&sewerage lines, heat&cold conduits and gas lines were needed in order for urban residents to live comfortably. Therefore, most of the life-lines were individually buried in underground and individually managed. The utility tunnel is defined as the urban planning facilities for commonly installing life-lines in the National Land Planning Act. Expectation effectiveness of urban utility tunnels is reducing repeated excavation of roads, improvement of urban landscape; road pavement durability; driving performance and traffic flow. It can also be expected that ensuring disaster safety for earthquakes and sinkholes, smart-grind and electric vehicle supply, rapid response to changes in future living environment and etc. Therefore, necessity of urban utility tunnels has recently increased. However, all of the constructed utility tunnels are cut-and-cover tunnels domestically, which is included in development of new-town areas. Since urban areas can not accommodate all buried life-lines, it is necessary to study the feasibility assessment system for utility tunnel by urban patterns and capacity optimization for urban utility tunnels. In this study, we break away from the new-town utility tunnels and suggest a quantitative assessment model based on the evaluation index for urban areas. In addition, we also develop a program that can implement a quantitative evaluation system by subdividing the feasibility assessment system of urban patterns. Ultimately, this study can contribute to be activated the urban utility tunnel.

Selecting Aquifer Artificial Recharge Methods Based on Characteristics of the Target Aquifer (주입대상 대수층의 특성을 고려한 인공함양 방법 선정 연구)

  • This study aimed to determine the extent of artificial aquifer recharge and to evaluate appropriate recharge techniques based on field investigations and comparative analysis of each recharge method. Characteristics of the aquifer determine the target aquifer and the recharge method for artificial groundwater recharge. Electrical conductivity surveys, drilling, permeability tests, and grain-size analysis indicate that the hydraulic conductivity of weathered soil and weathered rock is higher than that of upper unconsolidated soil. Pumping tests indicate that the groundwater level was stable at a depth of 12 m until 9 hours of pumping, but after that it dropped again, indicating anisotropic aquifer characteristics. Three types of artificial recharge method were reviewed, including recharge wells, ditches, and ponds, and a combination of two methods is proposed: a recharge well system directly injecting into weathered soil and rock sections with good permeability, and an injection ditch that can increase the recharge effect by line-type injection in the upstream area. The extent of groundwater recharge by the selected methods will be evaluated through on-site tests and if their applicability is verified, they will contribute to securing water in areas of water shortage.

Exposure Assessment of Extremely Low Frequency Magnetic Fields by variable exposure matrices for the Selected Primary Schoolchildren Living Nearby and Away from a Overhead Transmission Power Line (다양한 노출 매트릭스를 통한 송전선로 주변과 비 주변 거주 초등학교 학생의 극저주파 자기장 노출량 평가에 관한 연구)

  • The objectives of this study were to analyze and compare 24 hrs personal exposure levels of MF at microenvironments such as home, school, educational institute, internet pc game room, transportation, and other places according to time activity patterns using various metrics for children attending the primary schools located near and away from the power lines, and to characterize the major microenvironments and impact factors attributed personal exposure level. The study was carried out for 44 children attending a primary school away from the lines(school A) and 125 children attending a school away from 154 kV power lines(school B), all who aged 12 years and were 6 grade, from July 2003 to December 2003. All participants filled in a questionnaire about characteristics, residence, use of electrical appliances and others. Children wore a small satchel in which EMDEX II and Lite (Enertech, Co. Ltd) and a diary of activity list for period of registration in 20 minutes blocks. All statistical calculations were made with the SAS System, Releas 6.12. The summary of results was presented below. First, about the characteristics of subjects, there no differences between two groups. The subject almost spent about 56 % of their time at home and about 20~25 % of their time at school. Fifty percent of children spent 2 hours at private educational institutes. Second, the personal exposure measurements of children in school B was statistically higher than those of children in school A by various metrics such as arithmetic mean, geometric mean, percentile(5, 25, 50, 75, 95), maximum, rate of change metric, constant field metric. The arithmetic and geometric mean magnetic fields during the time the children were at school B were 0.98 and $0.86{\mu}T$ and were about 23 times higher than those of children were at school A. In conclusion, the significant major determinants of personal exposure level is the distance from the power line to microenvironments.

  • Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) is an auxiliary safety system for recognizing the condition of tires based on the pressure and temperature data transmitted from the sensor unit installed on a tire of the vehicle. Using TPMS, a driver can frequently check the state of tires and it aids to maintain the optimum running condition of the vehicle. Since TPMS must utilize the wireless communication technique to transmit data from a sensor unit to a signal processing unit installed in the vehicle, it suffers from interference signals caused by various external electrical or electronic devices. In order to suppress high-power interference signals, we employ beamforming techniques based on the uniform linear antenna array. As the number of the antennas is increased, the performance of the interference suppression is improved. However, there is the limit of the number of antennas, installed in the center of a vehicle, because of its size. In this paper, we compare and analyze the performance of the beamformer, when reducing the interelement spacing of antennas, to increase the number of the receiving antennas. For the performance analysis of the beamformers, we consider the switching beamformer and minimum-variance distortionless-response (MVDR) beamformer for TPMS, recently proposed.

Particle Size Control by the Addition of PVA and HNO3 in γ-Al2O3 Synthesis Using by Sol-Gel Method (졸-겔법을 이용한 γ-Al2O3 합성 시 PVA와 HNO3 첨가에 따른 입자크기 제어)

  • Alumina(Al2O3) is a ceramic material used in industry with a range of particle sizes and characteristics. In this study, a boehmite sol was prepared by a hydrolysis and peptizing process using the Sol-Gel method from aluminum isopropoxide (AIP). γ-Al2O3 was prepared by drying and calcining. To prevent particle agglomeration during the manufacturing process, four kinds of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) with molecular weights of 9,000~10,000, 31,000~50,000, 89,000~98,000, and 130,000 were added and three concentrations of HNO3 (0.1, 0.3, 0.5 molar ratio) were added to determine their effects on the particles. The crystal structure, composition, particle size and shape of the prepared γ-Al2O3 were confirmed through x-ray diffraction (XRD), x-ray fluorescence analyzer (XRF), particle size analyzer (PSA), and field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM). As a result, γ-Al2O3 with a purity of approximately 98.2% was synthesized, and the particle size decreased and the uniformity increased with increasing ratio of HNO3 addition and PVA molecular weight. From these results, the particle size can be controlled during the manufacturing process of γ-Al2O3 by controlling the addition ratio of PVA and HNO3.

The Site Installation Test of Single-Phase MJ81 Switch Point Machine Localization (단상 MJ81 전기선로전환기 국산품의 현장설치시험)

  • In this paper, we describe the performance results of the field installation test which is required to practicalize the single-phase MJ81 Switch Point Machine. This product has passed the certified test through performance improvement of driving parts in order to use 3 phase MJ81 Switch Point Machine, which is localized by taking over technology from Alstom and Cogifer when constructing Seoul-Busan rapid-transit railway, without change of the electrical equipment at track-side in domestic existing lines which single-phase 220V is used. KRRI and Samsung SDS have localized the single-phase MJ81 Switch Point Machine to improve the speed and safety of the conventional lines through the existing railway technology development project. For practicalization of this, we should, however, verify the performance through not only field installation test in real lines but also interface test with the interlocking. In this paper we verify the practicality of the domestic single-phase MJ81 Switch Point Machine through analysis on the performance result of the field installation test as well as the research contents for this test. Thereby, in Feb 2009 we have received an order from the Korea Rail Network Authority and are currently installing the single-phase MJ81 Switch Point Machine.

Abnormal Changes in Groundwater Monitoring Data Due to Small-Magnitude Earthquakes (지하수 모니터링 이상변동 자료를 이용한 소규모 지진 영향 유추)

  • This study tests the potential of detecting small-magnitude earthquakes (~M3.0) and their precursors using a long-term groundwater-monitoring database. In groundwater records from April to June 2012, abnormal changes in water level, temperature, and electrical conductivity were identified in the bedrock monitoring wells of the Gimcheon-Jijwa, Gangjin-Seongjeon, and Gongju-Jeongan stations. These anomalies could be attributed to the M3.1 earthquake that occurred in the Youngdeok area on May 30th, although no linear relationship was found between the scale of changes and the distance between each monitoring station and the epicenter, which is attributed in part to the wide screen design of the monitoring wells. Groundwater monitoring networks designed specifically for monitoring earthquake impacts could provide better information on the safety of underground space and on the security of emergency water-resources in earthquake disaster areas.

  • The rapid growth of IoT technology induced by the fourth industrial revolution has resulted in research into various types of wireless sensors, and applications based on this technology are prevalent in many areas. However, among the various sites where this technology is used, railway bridges and tunnels with lengths of tens of kilometers have problems with data acquisition, due to the signal noise induced by the long distance measurement and EMI induced by the high voltage power feeding system, when conventional electric sensors are used. To overcome these problems, many studies on fiber optic sensors have been conducted as a substitute for the conventional electric sensors. However, restrictions on the types of fiber optic sensors have limited their application in railways. For this reason, a hybrid measurement system with IoT based wireless data communication, in which both electric and fiber optic sensors can be applied simultaneously, has been developed. In this study, in order to evaluate the applicability of the hybrid measurement system developed in the previous study, a real-time test for 4 types of measurement environments, which reflect possible railway sites, is performed. As a result, it was confirmed that the signals from both the electric and fiber optic sensors, which were acquired at a remote area in real-time, showed good agreement with each other and that this measurement system has the potential to handle sensors with a sampling rate of 2.5 kHz. In the future, it is expected that the IoT-based hybrid measurement system will contribute to the improvement of structural safety by enabling real-time structural health monitoring when applied to various measurement sites.

Performance Analysis of Adaptive Channel Estimation Scheme in V2V Environments (V2V 환경에서 적응적 채널 추정 기법에 대한 성능 분석)

  • Vehicle communication can facilitate efficient coordination among vehicles on the road and enable future vehicular applications such as vehicle safety enhancement, infotainment, or even autonomous driving. In the $3^{rd}$ Generation Partnership Project (3GPP), many studies focus on long term evolution (LTE)-based vehicle communication. Because vehicle speed is high enough to cause severe channel distortion in vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) environments. We can utilize channel estimation methods to approach a reliable vehicle communication systems. Conventional channel estimation schemes can be categorized as least-squares (LS), decision-directed channel estimation (DDCE), spectral temporal averaging (STA), and smoothing methods. In this study, we propose a smart channel estimation scheme in LTE-based V2V environments. The channel estimation scheme, based on an LTE uplink system, uses a demodulation reference signal (DMRS) as the pilot symbol. Unlike conventional channel estimation schemes, we propose an adaptive smoothing channel estimation scheme (ASCE) using quadratic smoothing (QS) of the pilot symbols, which estimates a channel with greater accuracy and adaptively estimates channels in data symbols. In simulation results, the proposed ASCE scheme shows improved overall performance in terms of the normalized mean square error (NMSE) and bit error rate (BER) relative to conventional schemes.
