Acoustic response control of a corner-pinned plate using piezoelectric wafers was studied, both theoretically and experimentally. Three different sizes of aluminum alloy plates were used and available ball joints were employed to hold the plate at the four comers. The plate with the largest aspect ratio showed the largest and most clear responses to the acoustic excitation in the range of frequencies $(0\sim200Hz)$, and sound pressure levels $(80\sim100dB)$ as predicted. The reduction of the acoustic response of the plate by piezoelectric actuator was very significant, more than expected, but abatement of the sound transmission through the plate was only slightly altered by the piezoelectric actuator. This work is an original work extending earlier work with doors excited by acoustic fields. The important difference is the used of ball joints to simulate the joints.
Lighting and traffic signal columns are mainly stressed by excitation due to natural, gusty wind. Such columns typically have a door opening about 60 cm above ground level for the connection of the buried cable with the column's electric system. When the columns around this notch are inadequately designed, vibrations due to gusty winds will produce considerable stress amplitudes in this area, which lead to fatigue cracks. To give a realistic basis for a reliable and economic design of lighting and traffic signal columns, a number of experimental and theoretical investigations have been made. The proposed design concept allows the life of such columns to be assessed with a satisfactory degree of accuracy.

In the present study, monitoring of elliptical vibration cutting process by utilizing internal data in the ultrasonic elliptical vibration device without external sensors such as a dynamometer and displacement sensor is investigated. The internal data utilized here is the change of excitation frequency, i.e. resonant frequency of the device, voltages applied to the piezoelectric actuators composing the device, and electric currents flowing through the actuators. These internal data change automatically in the elliptical vibration control system in order to keep a constant elliptical vibration against the change of the cutting process. Correlativity between the process and the internal data is described by using a vibration model of ultrasonic elliptical vibration cutting and verified by several experiments, i.e. planing and mirror surface finishing of hardened die steel carried out with single crystalline diamond tools. As a result, it is proved that it is possible to estimate the elements of elliptical vibration cutting process, e.g. tool wear and machining load, which are important for stable cutting in such precision machining.
The paper investigates the residual stresses arising in a thermoviscoelastic cylinder as a result of layer-by-layer deposition of material on its lateral surface. Internal stresses are caused by incompatible deformations that accumulate in the assembly as a result of joining parts with different temperatures. For the analysis of internal stresses, an analytical solution to the axisymmetric quasi-static problem of thermoelasticity for a growing cylinder is constructed. It is shown that the distribution of residual stresses depends on the scenario of the surfacing process. In this case, the supply of additional heat to the growing body can significantly reduce the unevenness of temperature fields and reduce the intensity of residual stresses. The most effective is uneven heating, which can be realized, by the action of an alternating current with a tunable excitation frequency. The temperature and residual stresses fields on the growing surface is analyzed numerically for Titanium and Copper materials.
This study reports a structure, based on a liquid-crystal (LC) core optical waveguide, for the switchable spatial control of linearly polarized light. The refractive indices of both left and right isotropic claddings in the waveguide are between the two principal-axis indices of the nematic liquid crystal (NLC). Numerical simulations demonstrate that the proposed structure can be operated in transmission mode or as an attenuator by controlling the on and off states of the applied voltage, whether the initial excitation is transverse electric (TE) linearly polarized light or transverse magnetic (TM) linearly polarized light. The design can also be used as an integrated optical polarizer, since only one type of linearly polarized light is always permitted to pass through the core zone of the NLC optical waveguide.
We designed a combined nanostructure of inverted pyramidal pits and nanoparticles, which can obtain much stronger field enhancement than traditional periodic pits or nanoparticles. The field enhancement |E|/|E0| is greater than 10 in a large area at 750-820 nm in incident wavelength. |Emax|/|E0| is greater than 60. Moreover, the hot spot is obtained outside the pits instead of localized inside them, which is beneficial for experiments such as surface-enhanced Raman scattering. The relations between resonant wavelength and structural parameters are investigated. The resonant wavelength shows a linear dependence on the structure's period, which provides a direct way to tune the resonant wavelength. The excitation of a propagating surface plasmon on the periodic structure's surface, a localized surface plasmon of nanoparticles, and a standing-wave effect contribute to the enhancement.

An effective method of detecting inter-turn short circuits on round rotor windings is described. Shorted-turns can have significant effects on a generator and its performance. A method of detecting inter-turn short circuits on rotor windings is described. The approach used is to measure the rate of change of the air-gap flux density wave when the rotor is at operating speed and excitation is applied to the field winding. The inter-turn short circuits sensor for synchronous generator's field winding has been developed. The sensor, installed in the generator air-gap, senses the slot leakage flux of field winding and produces a voltage waveform proportional to the rate of change of the flux. For identification of reliability for sensor, a inter-turn short circuits test was performed at the West-Inchon combined cycle power plant on gas turbine generator and steam turbine generator. This sensor will be used as a detecting of shorted-turn for field winding of synchronous generator. The purpose of this paper is to describe the design and operation of a sensitive inter-turn short circuits detector. In this paper, development of inter-turn short circuits sensor for field winding of synchronous generator and application in a field.

In this study, forced vibration behavior of a piezo magneto electric sandwich Timoshenko beam is investigated. It is assumed a sandwich beam with porous core and graphene platelet reinforced composite (GPLRC) in facesheets subjected to magneto-electro-elastic and temperature-dependent material properties. The magneto electro platelets are under linear function along with the thickness that includes a cosine function and magnetic and electric constant potentials. The governing equations of motion are derived using modified strain gradient theory for microstructures. The effects of material length scale parameters, temperature change, different distributions of porous, various patterns of graphene platelets, and the core to face sheets thickness ratio on the natural frequency and excited frequency of a sandwich Timoshenko beam are scrutinized. Various size-dependent methods effects such as MSGT, MCST, and CT on the natural frequency is considered. Moreover, the final results affirm that the increase in porosity coefficient and volume fractions lead to an increase in the amount of natural frequency; while vice versa for the increment in the aspect ratio. From forced vibration analysis, it is understood that by increasing the values of volume fraction and the length thickness of GPL, the maximum deflection of a sandwich beam decreases. Also, it is concluded that increasing the temperature, the thickness of GPL, and the initial force leads to a decrease in the maximum deflection of GPL. It is also shown that resonance phenomenon occurs when the natural and excitation frequencies become equal to each other. Outcomes also reveal that the third natural frequency owns the minimum value of both deflection and frequency ratio and the first natural frequency has the maximum.
Green phosphors $(Zn_{1-a-b}M_aM^{\prime}_b)_xGa_yS_{x+3y/2}:Eu^{2+}$ (M, M' = alkali earth ions) with x = 2 and y = 2-5 were prepared, starting from ZnO, MgO, $SrCO_3$, $Ga_2O_3$, $Eu_2O_3$, and S with a flux $NH_4F$ using a conventional solidstate reaction. A phosphor with the composition of $(Zn_{0.6}Sr_{0.3}Mg_{0.1})_2Ga_2S_5:Eu^{2+}$ produced the strongest luminescence at a 460-nm excitation. The observed XRD patterns indicated that the optimized phosphor consisted of two components: zinc thiogallate and zinc sulfide. The characteristic green luminescence of the $ZnS:Eu^{2+}$ component on excitation at 460 nm was attributed to the donor-acceptor ($D_{ZnGa_2S_4}-A_{ZnS}$) recombination in the hybrid boundary. The optimized green phosphor converted 17.9% of the absorbed blue light into luminescence. For the fabrication of light-emitting diode (LED), the optimized phosphor was coated with MgO using magnesium nitrate to overcome their weakness against moisture. The MgO-coated green phosphor was fabricated with a blue GaN LED, and the chromaticity index of the phosphor-cast LED (pc-LED) was investigated as a function of the wt % of the optimized phosphor. White LEDs were fabricated by pasting the optimized green (G) and the red (R) phosphors, and the commercial yellow (Y) phosphor on the blue chips. The three-band pc-WLED resulted in improved color rendering index (CRI) and corrected color temperature (CCT), compared with those of the two-band pc-WLED.
The accelerated thermal ageing of CSPE (chlorosulfonated polyethylene) was carried out for 16.82, 50.45, and 84.09 days at $110^{\circ}C$, equivalent to 20, 60, and 100 years of ageing at $50^{\circ}C$ in nuclear power plants, respectively. As the accelerated thermally aged years increase, the insulation resistance and resistivity of the CSPE decrease, and the capacitance, relative permittivity and dissipation factor of those increase at the measured frequency, respectively. As the accelerated thermally aged years and the measured frequency increase, the phase degree of response voltage vs excitation voltage of the CSPE increase but the phase degree of response current vs excitation voltage decrease, respectively. As the accelerated thermally aged years increase, the apparent density, glass transition temperature and the melting temperature of the CSPE increase but the percent elongation and % crystallinity decrease, respectively. The differential temperatures of those are $0.013-0.037^{\circ}C$ and, $0.034-0.061^{\circ}C$ after the AC and DC voltages are applied to CSPE-0y and CSPE-20y, respectively; the differential temperatures of those are $0.011-0.038^{\circ}C$ and $0.002-0.028^{\circ}C$ after the AC and DC voltages are applied to CSPE-60y and CSPE-100y, respectively. The variations in temperature for the AC voltage are higher than those for the DC voltage when an AC voltage is applied to CSPE. It is found that the dielectric loss owing to the dissipation factor($tan{\delta}$) is related to the electric dipole conduction current. It is ascertained that the ionic (electron or hole) leakage current is increased by the partial separation of the branch chain of CSPE polymer as a result of thermal stress due to accelerated thermal ageing.
