  • In order to study functional nucleotides in prototype foamy virus (PFV) DNA on specific recognition by PFV integrase (IN), we designed chimeric U5 long terminal repeat (LTR) DNA substrates by exchanging comparative sequences between human immunodeficiency virus type-1 (HIV-1) and PFV U5 LTRs, and investigated the 3'-end processing reactivity using HIV-1 and PFV INs, respectively. HIV-1 IN recognized the nucleotides present in the fifth and sixth positions at the 3'-end of the substrates more specifically than any other nucleotides in the viral DNA. However, PFV IN recognized the eighth and ninth nucleotides as distinctively as the fifth and sixth nucleotides in the reactions. In addition, none of the nucleotides present in the twelfth, sixteenth, seventeenth, eighteenth, nineteenth, and twentieth positions were not differentially recognized by HIV-1 and PFV INs, respectively. Therefore, our results suggest that the functional nucleotides that are specifically recognized by its own IN in the PFV U5 LTR are different from those in the HIV-1 U5 LTR in aspects of the positions and nucleotide sequences. Furthermore, it is proposed that the functional nucleotides related to the specific recognition by retroviral INs are present inside ten nucleotides from the 3'-end of the U5 LTR.

  • The purpose of this communication is to review the 390 cases of chest trauma, treated at Department of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, School of Medicine Kyungpook National University from 1960 to 1977. Patients were grouped into two: group `60s [1960-1969] of 103 cases and group `70s [1970-1977] of 257 cases. As the number of cases of each group showed, chest trauma cases increased three times in `70s . The main causes of trauma were auto accident, falling down, industrial injury and stab wound in that order for both groups. Eighty per cent of cases of `60s were between 20 and 59 years and 73.8% of same age range for `70s. Rib fracture of fourth to eighth rib was the most common lesion in both `60s and `70s group. The incidence of hemothorax or hemopnemothorax significantly increased among `70s group than `60s. Clinical manifestations of chest pain and dyspnea remained most frequent symptoms for both groups. The pertinent principles of treatment for the chest trauma were conservative therapy, closed thoracotomy and open thoracotomy. Closed thoracotomy was performed more freely during the period of 1970-1977, with encouraging clinical results. Very few cases of complications other than pneumothorax or hemopneumothorax occurred. Those are fibrothorax, asphyxia, atelectasis and mediastinitis. The overall mortality was 3.9% for the `60s and 2.1% for the `70s group. The possible causes of death of 14 cases of chest trauma whom died on arrival during 1970-1977 were analyzed.

  • In order to resolve problems according to the phase error in QPSK demodulator in the digital satellite broadcasting, the demodulator requires carrier recovery loop which searches for the frequency and phase of the carrier. In this paper the drawback of NCO of the conventional carrier recovery loop is to wastes a amount of power for the structure of Look-up table , we designed the structure of combinational logic without the Look-up table. In the comparison with dynamic power of the proposed NCO, the power of NCO with the Look-up table is 175[${\mu}$W], NCO with the proposed structure is 24.65[${\mu}$W]. As the result, it is recognized that loss power is reduced about one eighth. In the simulation of carrier recovery loop designed QPSK demodulator, it is known that the carrier phase is compensated.

  • The purpose of this study was to provide basic information on the propriety of the ready to wear garment sizes of Tween Generation(ages from 5th grade to 8th grade) who has different clothing preferences in color, styles, and design and also different body sizes and shapes from younger and older students. The objectives of the study were to ascertain (a) the body figure changes occurring during Tween Generation; (b) the coverage of manufactures'garment sizes. The body measurements of elementary school students(5th & 6th grades) and junior high school students(7th & 8th grades) provide the basic statistics for this study. The mean differences of each size within each figure type are compared by using t-teats. The differences in various manufacturers'apparel sizing and figure size are investigated. Also the body measurements and the apparel sizes of the manufacturers are compared in order to evaluate the suitability of the garment size. Results indicate that the body type factors are different in each age group. And manufactures'sizes come out to be much smaller than the actual body measurements. Young casual wear can cover junior high school students satisfactorily but for elementary school students, because of low drop-value, the overall satisfaction with filling is low.

  • Due to the high degree of mechanization and the good environmental benefits, the prefabricated buildings are being promoted in China. The construction site layout of the prefabricated buildings has important influence on its safety benefit. However, few scholars have studied the safety problem on it. Firstly, in order to give a follow-up study foreshadowing the characteristics of prefabricated buildings are analyzed, the research assumptions are given and three types of safety buffers are established. And then a mult-objective model for the prefabricated buildings site layout is presented: taking into account the limits of noise, the coverage of the tower crane and the possibility of exceeding boundaries and overlapping, the constraints are and designed established respectively; Based on the improved System Layout Planning (SLP) method, the efficiency\cost\safety interaction matrices among the facilities are also founded for objective function. For the sake of convenience, a hypothetical facility layout case of the prefabricated building is used, the optimal solution of that is obtained in MATLAB with particle swarm algorithm (PSO), which proves the effectiveness of the model presented in this paper.

  • This study aimed to examine the actor and partner effects of marital satisfaction on life satisfaction in middle-aged and older couples via their health behavior and health. The study participants included a total of 2,108 couples, aged 57 and over, from the eighth wave of data from the Korean Longitudinal Study of Ageing (KLoSA). The marital satisfaction, health behavior, health, and life satisfaction of the husbands and wives were measured to conduct the analysis. This analysis was conducted based on the Actor-Partner Interdependence Mediation Model (APIMeM) with the bootstrapping technique being used as the mediating effect. The results indicated that there were significant actor and partner direct and indirect effects when it comes to the relationship between the participants' marital satisfaction and their own life satisfaction, mediated by health behavior and health. However, no significant influences regarding the health of the participants on the life satisfaction of their spouses were found. These results suggest that it is important for middle-aged and older couples to improve their marital relationships in order to promote the health and life satisfaction of both parties. Doing so will help husbands and wives lead healthier lifestyles based on their positive relationships.

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study was to examine the oral health behavior and knowledge of middle schoolers in an attempt to facilitate the selection of what to teach about oral health. Methods : The subjects in this study were 315 students at three different middle schools located in the city of Gunsan. After a self-administered survey was conducted by using structured questionnaires in collaboration with their homeroom teachers, the answer sheets from 315 students were gathered. And the answer sheets from 302 students were analyzed with SPSS 12.0 program except 13 incomplete ones. The findings of the study were as follows: Results : 1. By gender and grade, the middle school boys(51.3%) outnumbered the middle school girls(48.7%), and the seventh, eighty and ninth graders respectively accounted for 31.5, 32.8 and 35.8 percent. 2. As to the parts of the mouth they brushed, the largest number of the seventh graders(31.6%) and ninth graders(56.5%) brushed their teeth and tongue. The largest group of the eighth graders(39.4%) brushed their teeth, tongue and gums, and the gaps between them and the others were statistically significant. 3. In regard to toothbrushing frequency, the ninth graders did that 2.62 times, which was the largest frequency, but the gap between them and the others was not statistically significant. 4. Concerning school oral health education experiences, the rates of the seventh, eighth and ninth graders who had ever received that education stood at 69.5, 50.6 and 50.5 percent respectively, and those students significantly outnumbered the others who hadn't(p<0.01). 5. As for the relationship of their oral health behavior scores to toothbrushing frequency, there was a statistically significant correlation between the two(r=0.227, p<0.001). And the oral health knowledge scores had a statistically significant correlation to toothbrushing frequency (r=0.116, p<0.05) and oral health behavior scores(r=0.358, p<0.001). Conclusions : It is concluded that proactive oral health education must be made through diverse programs and systems. Also, regular oral examination and active oral health program for preventing dental caries and periodontal disease should be proliferated in order to evaluate achievement and effectiveness and maintain oral health care.

  • Parametric studies of heat transfer and fluid flow are very important research of interest because the design and operation of fluid flow and heat transfer systems are guided by these parametric studies. The safety of the system operation and system optimization can be determined by decreasing or increasing particular fluid flow and heat transfer parameter while keeping other parameters constant. The parameters that can be varied in order to determine safe and optimized system include system pressure, mass flow rate, heat flux and coolant inlet temperature among other parameters. The fluid flow and heat transfer systems can also be enhanced by the presence of or without the presence of particular effects including gravity effect among others. The advanced Generation IV reactors to be deployed for large electricity production, have proven to be more thermally efficient (approximately 45% thermal efficiency) than the current light water reactors with a thermal efficiency of approximately 33 ℃. SCWR is one of the Generation IV reactors intended for electricity generation. High Performance Light Water Reactor (HPLWR) is a SCWR type which is under consideration in this study. One-eighth of a proposed fuel assembly design for HPLWR consisting of 7 fuel/rod bundles with 9 coolant sub-channels was the geometry considered in this study to examine the effects of system pressure and mass flow rate on wall and fluid temperatures. Gravity effect on wall and fluid temperatures were also examined on this one-eighth fuel assembly geometry. Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) code, STAR-CCM+, was used to obtain the results of the numerical simulations. Based on the parametric analysis carried out, sub-channel 4 performed better in terms of heat transfer because temperatures predicted in sub-channel 9 (corner subchannel) were higher than the ones obtained in sub-channel 4 (central sub-channel). The influence of system mass flow rate, pressure and gravity seem similar in both sub-channels 4 and 9 with temperature distributions higher in sub-channel 9 than in sub-channel 4. In most of the cases considered, temperature distributions (for both fluid and wall) obtained at 25 MPa are higher than those obtained at 23 MPa, temperature distributions obtained at 601.2 kg/h are higher than those obtained at 561.2 kg/h, and temperature distributions obtained without gravity effect are higher than those obtained with gravity effect. The results show that effects of system pressure, mass flowrate and gravity on fluid flow and heat transfer are significant and therefore parametric studies need to be performed to determine safe and optimum operating conditions of fluid flow and heat transfer systems.
