  • The aim of this paper is to examine the effects of children's ego-resilience and social support on exam anxiety and school adjustment. The subjects of this study were 534, $5^{th}$ and $6^{th}$ grade students (275 boys and 259 girls) from the Pusan area. The results of this study revealed that the levels of Ego-resilience and social support correlated negatively with exam anxiety, and positively with school adjustment. Therefore the more ego-resilience and social support children felt that they had, the lower the levels of exam anxiety they experience, and the higher their levels of school adjustment. The influence of ego-resilience on exam anxiety was higher than that of social support and the influence of ego-resilience on school adjustment was similar to that of social support. The implications of the present study were also discussed.

  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate and identify the influence of nurses' followership types and ego-resilience on job embeddedness. Methods: Self-reported questionnaires were distributed to 546 nurses working at hospitals with 400 to 700 beds in Seoul and Gangwon Province, and 520 sincere questionnaires were analyzed using SPSS / WIN ver 23.0 program. Results: The job embeddedness, ego-resilience and followership types of the participants showed significant correlation with each other. In hierarchical multiple regression analysis, nurses' followership types and ego-resilience were identified as predictors of job embeddedness (Adj. $R^2=0.34$, p<.001). Conclusion: Findings of this study indicate that nurses need to develop their followership and ego-resilience to increase job embeddedness. Future studies should explore ways to improve followership and ego-resilience.

  • Purpose: The study was performed to investigate the effects of empathy on interpersonal relationships through the mediating effect of ego-resilience in nursing students. Methods: Data were collected from June 5 to 30, 2018 using a self-report questionnaire measuring empathy, interpersonal relationships and ego-resilience. The sample was 204 nursing college students. SPSS WIN 23.0 programs were used to analyze the data. Results: Ego-resilience was positively related to empathy (r= .37, p< .001) and interpersonal relationships (r= .36, p< .001) and empathy was positively related to interpersonal relationships (r= .37, p< .001). Regression analysis showed that ego-resilience was affected by empathy (${\beta}=0.37$, p< .001), interpersonal relationships were affected by empathy (${\beta}=0.37$, p< .001). Interpersonal relationships were affected by empathy (${\beta}=0.28$, p< .001) and ego-resilience (${\beta}=0.26$, p< .001). Therefore ego-resilience mediates between empathy and interpersonal relationships. Conclusion: It is necessary to develop an effective intervention program to improve nursing students' empathy and ego-resilience.

This study conducted a structured-questionnaire survey with 143 nursing students to look into their professional self-concept, ego-resilience and clinical competence. Results. According to the study result, professional self-concept scored 2.85 on average out of 4 points, ego-resilience 3.61 on average, and clinical competence 3.48 on average. It was found that clinical competence had significantly positive correlations with professional self-concept (r=.58, p<.01) and ego-resilience (r=.44, p<.01). According to regression analysis, the factors affecting clinical competence were professional self-concept, ego-resilience, and academic grades in order, and explanatory power was 39.5%. Conclusions. Given the above results, in order to improve clinical competence of nursing students, nursing educational institutes need to find an educational plan which can contribute to increasing professional self-concept, ego-resilience, and academic grades.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate how children from low-income families perceived their family strength, ego-resilience and school adjustment. The relative magnitude of effects of family strength, ego-resilience and school adjustment were compared. Data were collected from 217 children in grade 4 through 6 who were attending local child welfare centers located in Seoul, Korea. The key research findings were as follows. Ego-resilience and perceived family strength were related to school adjustment among children in poverty. The relatively greater effect of ego-resilience implied that programs for children in poverty need to focus on developing interpersonal relationship skills or coping strategies designed to enable children from disadvantaged environments to deal with stressful events and to promote their ego-resilience. Additionally, the recovery or enhancement of family strength and ego-resilience will be effective at protecting and solving various adaptive problems that children from low-income families may experience at school.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationships of ego-resilience, stress coping styles and disposition to delinquency in middle school students. Method: The data were collected from October 15 to October 30, 2005. The subjects were 223 middle school students in 2nd grade in G city. To determine the most effective variable of ego-resilience to stress coping styles and disposition to delinquency, the dada were analyzed using Canonical correlation with SAS 9.1 TS, and Pearson's correlation with percentages, means, standard deviations with SPSS 14.0 K. Result: Ego-resilience showed a significant positive correlation with active coping styles and a significant negative correlation with passive coping styles, and disposition to delinquency. Canonical correlation analysis of 5 sub-domains of ego-resilience showed that curiosity made the highest contribution to predicting stress coping styles and vitality made the highest contribution in predicting disposition to delinquency in middle school students. Conclusions: The results of this study suggest that the development of ego-resilience for adolescents is important to improve stress coping strategies and decrease delinquency. Therefore, to increase ego-resilience, Stress Coping Programs should include curiosity and Delinquency Intervention Programs should include vitality.

Second, the teachers ego-resilience was found to be partially mediated in the relationship between the social support of fellow teachers and teacher-child interaction. With bootstrapping, the mediating effect of teachers ego-resilience was found to be statistically significant between the social support of colleague teachers and teacher-child interaction. Conclusion/Implications: Social support of fellow teachers plays an important role in the positive expression of teacher-child interaction, and the quality of relationships with children can be further enhanced by promoting teachers ego-resilience that mediates the two variables.

  • The objective of this study is to examine the influence of social support and ego-resilience on the burnout of infant teachers. 200 teachers from a children's day care center located in Jeju Island were selected as the subjects, with whom a survey was conducted using the criteria of social support, ego-resilience, and burnout. The data was analyzed by correlation and hierarchical analysis using the SPSS 18.0 program. The results were as follows. Firstly, the teachers' exhaustion level was low, whereas their ego-resilience level was high. Secondly, the higher their social support and ego-resilience were, the lower their exhaustion level became. Finally, in the review of the influence of social support and ego-resilience on exhaustion, ego-resilience explained more than social support. This finding suggests that teachers' ego-resilience and social support are the key factors affecting burnout. To reduce burnout, the development of educational programs to enhance the teachers' ego-resilience and social support is strongly recommended.
