  • In this paper, the combination effects of oxygen component in fuel and exhaust gas recirculation on the exhaust emissions have been investigated for a direct injection diesel engine. It is a kind of effective oxygenated fuel of diether group that the smoke emission of DGM(diethylene glycol dimethyl ether) blended fuel is reduced remarkably compared with commercial diesel fuel, that is, it can supply oxygen component sufficiently at higher loads and speeds in diesel engine. But, NOx emission of oxygenated fuel was increased compared with commercial diesel fuel. Also, the effects of exhaust gas recirculation(EGR) on the characteristics of NOx emission has been investigated. It was found that simultaneous reduction of smoke and NOx was achieved with oxygenated fuel(DGM 5vol-%) and cooled EGR method(10∼15%).

  • Substructure coupling or component mode synthesis may be employed in the solution of dynamic problems for large, flexible structures. The model is partitioned into several subdomains, and a generalized Craig-Bampton representation is derived. In this paper the mode sets (normal modes, constraint modes) is employed for model reduction. A generalized model reduction procedure is described. Vaious reduction methods that use constraint modes is described in detail. As examples, a flexible structure and a 10 DOF damped system are analyzed. Comparison with a conventional reduction method based on a complete model is made via eigenpair and dynamic responses.

  • In order for effective disaster prevention, it is necessary to have some idea of when, where, why and what kind of weather disasters may occur, and how large they may be. But the regional characteristics of Shizuoka Prefecture from the viewpoint of weather disasters have not been studied before. In this study, the authors gathered the data which represent how many times weather disasters occurred in Shizuoka Prefecture in the last fourteen years, and then divided it into some regions using a multivariate analysis. The authors adopted principal component analysis on this data, and then adopted cluster analysis with principal component scores which must be significant in the previous analysis. Finally the authors set the regional division based on these clusters and described the regional characteristics. This study could contribute to the weather disaster prevention in Shizuoka Prefecture.

  • In conventional sinusoidal wave PWM control, torque oscillation is a problem on account of harmonic component. This paper deals with the choice of line-to-line voltage modulation method, which is effective in using DC(direct current) source voltage and in controlling harmonic oscillation, and the pattern to reduce swiching loss through 1/3 pause of switching interral. So, this paper deals with valid realization of harmonic component and high torque response on variable load by simulation and experiments to compensate occurring problems when line-to-line modulation are applied to PWM inverter.

  • In this paper, a novel approach, ELM-PCA, is introduced for the first time to predict protein subcellular localization. Firstly, Protein Samples are represented by the pseudo amino acid composition (PseAAC). Secondly, the principal component analysis (PCA) is employed to extract essential features. Finally, the Elman Recurrent Neural Network (RNN) is used as a classifier to identify the protein sequences. The results demonstrate that the proposed approach is effective and practical.

  • Maltol(2-methyl-3-hydroxy-r-pyrone), a component known to be present in Korean Ginseng root showed an antioxidant action but its potency as an antioxidant was low: about 1150th that of other antioxidants such as pphenylenediamine, BHA and BHT. However, maltol was able to protect the oxidation damages in biological systems such as adriamycin-induced membrane damage in isolated cardiomyocytes, paraquat-induced toxicities in isolated hepatocytes and reperfusion injury in isolated hearts. The antioxidant action of maltol was also shown to be effective in vivo. The antioxidant action of this compound was probably due to the removal of hydroxyl radicals. In view of the roles of oxygen radical in various pathological proceises, Korean Ginseng root which contains several antioxidants including maltol is expected to have beneficial effects on the oxygen radical-involved processes.

  • In the large scale B2B transaction like buying Express-Train or selling Daewoo Motor, a tremendous amount of variables and factors of chaos functionate in it directly or indirectly. To get effective information processing on the so called complex system like this, it should be possible to unite the global insight power of the human being and the local computing power of the machine. In this paper, we suggested a union model of human being and machine using Hugent concept. Hugent is defined as an agent model which allows us to chemically unite the human's component and the machine's component in terms of information processing. In this paper, we showed that some typical problems contained in the complex system can be treated more easily through the suggested Hugent concept.

  • The main protein peak was observed in fraction No.9 and 109 when cellulase seperation was conducted by use of DEAE-Sephadex. The protein obtained from fraction No.9 has the characteristics of Cx component and that from fraction No.109 characteristics similiar to $C_1$ component. The effective reaction condition of the ensyme used was $40^{\circ}C$ in temperature. pH 5.0 and 90 minutes in treatment time. For the case of $C_1$ pH 5.5 in temperature range of $30^{\circ}C 50^^{\circ}C$, 4.0 5.5 in pH, and over 30 minutes of treatment time, the reaction was in the range of 80% of the maximum. Affinity of enzyme increased as freeness, increased, and this effect was more visible in fiber than in fines.

  • This study presents an effective vision-based system for cable bridge damage detection. In theory, cable bridges need to be inspected the outer as well as the inner part. Starting from August 2010, a new research project supported by Korea Ministry of Land, Transportation Maritime Affairs(MLTM) was initiated focusing on the damage detection of cable system. In this study, only the surface damage detection algorithm based on a vision-based system will be focused on, an overview of the vision-based cable damage detection is given in Fig. 1. Basically, the algorithm combines the image enhancement technique with principal component analysis(PCA) to detect damage on cable surfaces. In more detail, the input image from a camera is processed with image enhancement technique to improve image quality, and then it is projected into PCA sub-space. Finally, the Mahalanobis square distance is used for pattern recognition. The algorithm was verified through laboratory tests on three types of cable surface. The algorithm gave very good results, and the next step of this study is to implement the algorithm for real cable bridges.

  • Sliding mode control (SMC) is an effective method of controlling systems with uncertainties which satisfy the so-called matching condition. However, how to effectively handle mismatched uncertainties of systems is still an ongoing research issue in SMC. Several methods have been proposed to design a stable sliding surface even if mismatched uncertainties exist in a system. Especially, it is presented that robustness and efficiency of SMC for linear systems with mismatched uncertainties can be improved by reducing mismatched uncertainties in the reduced-order system. The reduction method needs a new sliding surface with an additional component based on Lyapunov redesign technique. In this paper, a stable sliding surface which contains additional component to reduce the influence of mismatched uncertainties, is introduced. It is designed by using linear matrix inequalities that guarantees the stability of the system. A numerical example demonstrates the validity of the proposed scheme.
