A Semi-analytical Model for Depletion-mode N-type Nanowire Field-effect Transistor (NWFET) with Top-gate Structure

  • We propose a semi-analytical current conduction model for depletion-mode n-type nanowire field-effect transistors (NWFETs) with top-gate structure. The NWFET model is based on an equivalent circuit consisting of two back-to-back Schottky diodes for the metal-semiconductor (MS) contacts and the intrinsic top-gate NWFET. The intrinsic top-gate NWFET model is derived from the current conduction mechanisms due to bulk charges through the center neutral region as well as of accumulation charges through the surface accumulation region, based on the electrostatic method, and thus it includes all current conduction mechanisms of the NWFET operating at various top-gate bias conditions. Our previously developed Schottky diode model is used for the MS contacts. The newly developed model is integrated into ADS, in which the intrinsic part of the NWFET is developed by utilizing the Symbolically Defined Device (SDD) for an equation-based nonlinear model. The results simulated from the newly developed NWFET model reproduce considerably well the reported experimental results.

  • The engine performance and combustion characteristics of methanol blended fuel in spark ignition engine were discussed on the basis of experimental investigation. The effects of methanol blending fuel on combustion in cylinder were investigated under various conditions of engine cycle and blending ratio. The results showed that the engine performance was influenced by the methanol blending ratio and the variations of operating conditions of test engine. The increase of fuel temperature brought on the improvement of combustion characteristics such as cylinder pressure, the rate of pressure rise and heat release in an engine. The burning rate of fuel-air mixture, the exhaust emissions and the other characteristics of performance were discussed also.

  • An experimental study was carried out to investigate the characteristics of cyclic variability of combustion in a single cylinder spark ignition engine. Cylinder pressure of 240 consecutive cycles were measured for various engine operating conditions. From these data, a thermody-n amic analysis was performed for the typical cases in order to identify the cause and effect re -lation of the cyclic variation. In determining the number of cycles required for estimating the coefficient of variation of IMEP and so on, the oprating conditions must be cosidered to fit the objective of the analysis. It is thought that the variation in early flame stage is amplified through the flame propagation and results in the phase change between pressure and volume, which can be the major reason of cyclic variation of IMEP in case of lean operation.

An Experimental Study on the Defrosting Behavior of a Fin-Tube Heat Exchanger

  • The effect of various conditions of frosting and defrosting on the defrosting behavior of a fin-tube heat exchanger has been examined experimentally. An electric heater is used for defrosting in a fin-tube heat exchanger. There are several local maxima in the water draining rate. The amount of residual water on the heat exchanger after completion of defrosting is kept constant due to surface tension on the heat exchanger. Without considering degradation of the thermal performance due to the frosting, the defrosting efficiency is improved with increasing amount of frost irrespective of the frosting condition. The defrosting behavior is affected by frosting density as well as frost accumulation, both of which vary with the experimental operating conditions. The heat loss to the surrounding air decreases, and melting and defrosting efficiencies show high values with decreasing heat input.

  • The objective of this study is to evaluate the vibration attenuation effects of the different type of gloves and drilling mode while operating a light-weighted powered hand drill. For the experimental design, five different kinds of glove(barehanded cotton partly coated anti-vibration, and open-finger vibration glove) two types of push force level(100N and 200N) and two types of drilling mode(impact and non-impulsive) were considered. Six healthy male subjects were employed to drive screws into a vertically mounted marble plate with a powered hand drill in a randomly ordered experimental conditions. The findings of this study are summarized as follows; (1) It was found that the best combination of overall BMS transmissibility was using impact drilling mode with anti-vibration glove among evaluated experimental conditions (2) The wearing open finger vibration glove in mid-frequency level and anti-vibration glove with impact drill in high-frequency were the best in the result from mean corrected transmissibility equation of ISO 10819.

  • Oxidation of phenol in aqueous media by electro-Fenton process using Ru-Sn-Sb/graphite electrode has been studied. Hydrogen peroxide was electrically generated by reaction of dissolved oxygen in acidic solutions containing supporting electrolyte and $Fe^{2+}$ was added in aqueous media. Phenol degradation experiments were performed in the presence of electrolyte media at pH 3. Effect of operating parameters such as current, electrolyte type (NaCl, KCl and $Na_2SO_4$) and concentration, $Fe^{2+}$ concentration, air flow rate and phenol concentration were investigated to find the best experimental conditions for achieving overall phenol removal. Results showed that current of 2 A, NaCl electrolyte concentration of 2g/l, 0.5M concentration of $Fe^{2+}$, air flow rate of 1l/min were the best conditions for mineralization of the phenol by electro-Fenton.

  • The engine performance and combustion characteristics of methanol blended fuel in a multiple-point electronic control gasoline engine were discussed on the basis of experimental investigation. The effects of methanol blending fuel on combustion in cylinder were investigated under various conditions of engine cycle and blending ratio. The results showed that the engine performance was influenced by the methanol blended ratio. The results showed that the engine performance was influenced by the methanol blending ratio and the variations of operating conditions of test engine. The increase of blended fuel brought on the improvement of emission characteristics such as THC, CO, and NOx concentration. The effect of methanol blended fuel on the fuel consumption rate and the other characteristics of performance were discussed.

  • Since the global positioning system receivers on the surface of the Earth use satellite signals sent from a remote distance and the intensity of received signals is weak, they are vulnerable to jamming. This paper implements a vector-tracking loop (VTL)-based global navigation satellite system (GNSS) receiver algorithm as an anti-jamming technique and compares the performance of VTL-based receivers with that of scalar-tracking loop (STL) that is used in general GNSS receivers at various jamming environments and a vehicle's dynamics. The simulation results shows that VTL is more robust against jamming than STL in all operating environments.

  • A macerating technique which can apply to the mechanical production system of the agricultural by-product was developed to increase the utilization of agricultural waste and solve the shortage problem in the forage supply for the livestock production. The macerating method is to shred the agricultural by-product by the two rolls which rotate at different speeds each other. The testing macerator was built and the optimum operating conditions are suggested. Results of this research are as follows: 1. The increase of the base roll speed and speed ratio between two rolls shows the better shredding index but decrease the drying rate. The optimum conditions of the base roll speed and the speed ratio between two rolls for the rice straw are 1200 rpm and 1.7-2.0 respectively. 2. The macerated alfalfa was dried to the 15%(w.b.) within 3 hrs in a field at speed ratio of rolls, 2:1 and base roll speed, 1800rpm. 3. The milled surface and straight knurled surface for the macerating roll have same effect on the drying rate of material. Both rolls have self-cleaning functions during operation.

Treatment of the Chromium Containing Wastewater by Electrolysis (전기분해에 의한 크롬폐수처리)

  • In this study, the effect of the various operating conditions on the removal of $Cr^{6+}$ from $Cr^{6+}$ containing wastewater which has strong toxicity by using electrolysis with iron electrode as anode and aluminum electrode as cathode was investigated. The removal efficiency of $Cr^{6+}$ was increased as the pH was decreased, as the distance of electrode was decreased and the voltage was increased. The reaction temperature slightly affected the removal efficiency. The optimum conditions for the treatment of $Cr^{6+}$ containing wastewater were initial pH 3, 5 volt and the distance of electrode was 1cm. The feasibility of the electrochemical treatment to the $Cr^{6+}$ containing industrial wastewater was verified from this study.
